yeah, I just kept away from peanuts altogether, my son is 6 1/2 nad occasionally will have a few peanuts now.. though he hates PB... I wont be giving my baby PB at any age, as robing says - it's just not necessary as part of their diet so why risk it? :]

something about whole peanuts if they swallow it the oil or something can go into the lungs and kill the child. i would stay away from nuts in general. as far as pb it think its about a year, year and a half creamy not chunky and a tiny bit at a time to get used to texture. if there is a known allergy in the family i would wait. there are other ways to get proteins into your kids other than pb. why risk what isnt necessary right? =)

I thought children couldn't have peanuts until they were 5 years old? (I live in the UK).. I realise they might be referring to the actual whole nuts as a choking hazard, but I also thought it was due to allergies and that they're most likely to get an allergy to peanuts if they have them prior to 5 years of age? I found this guidance: If you or anyone in your child's family has a food allergy or allergic type disorder (like asthma or eczema) or if your child has had a food allergy in the past, then you should wait to introduce peanuts and peanut butter. How long? According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, you should wait until your child is 3 years old.
In addition, mothers with any history of a peanut allergy in the family should avoid peanuts and peanut butter in the third trimester of pregnancy and for as long as they are nursing their children.
If there is none of the above in you or your child's history, however, then peanut butter can be a healthy addition to the diet when your child turns 1 year old. Just be sure to avoid giving big spoonfuls of peanut butter and never give children under 3 years of age whole peanuts because these pose a choking hazard. My daughter's doctor said she can have it after her 1st birthday. I think it depends on what your dr says. But be EXTRA careful if you have nut allergies in your families - especially with you or hubby. xox

I was told after 18 months and to dilute it a little so they can get used to the texture.
