I NEED TO KNOW ARE MY PERIODS SUPPOSED TO STOP? IT WAS SUPPOSED TO START 2 WEEKS AGO AND IT HASN`T AND I KEEP TAKING PREGNANCY TESTS AND THEY ARE COMING BACK `INVALID`. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS? OR IS THIS SIDE EFFECT OF THE IUD?

alreadygot1 - 889 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I am on paraguard and mine have not stopped. They were heavier with slight cramping for like 5 months and now they are normal with a little spotting during ovulation. I wouldn't be too concerned, but maybe just call your doctor.

last.one.for.me - 889 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I think if the tests are coming back 'invalid' that is to with the batch of tests and not the IUD - any urine passing the control line should show it up.. Try a different brand. As for whether or not the IUD stops periods, it's entirely possible.. having said that, I've heard the progesterone based IUDs (IUS) are likely to stop periods, though lots of people report heavy irregular bleeding and the copper IUD with NO synthetic hormone is most likely to make periods heavier and more painful for the first 6 months after insertions.. I wouldn't be TOO alarmed, but go to your doctors for guidance/reassurance/check proper placement and to also rule out a possible pregnancy.. IUDs are abortive contraceptives, they dont stop an egg being fertilized, they stop it from implanting... NO contraceptive is completely fool proof though - my mother concieved my sister with an IUD fitted and risked 80% chance of miscarriage having the IUD removed in a bid to keep the pregnancy...
