You will either find that he's satisfied, or not. if he seems satisfied and gains weight, you will know that your milk supply is satisfactory for him. With regards to pumping- when you pump, you only take out the milk that is STORED in your breast. Typically, your body stores a certain amount of milk for your child until about the 6th month, when your breasts soften and your STORED supply decreases. When your baby sucks as a newborn, your breast provides him with the stored milk first- which is higher in calories and lower in fat. As the baby drinks, more milk is made and released from the ducts- called the hind milk. This is higher in fat and is what satisfies baby. The longer baby sucks, the more milk is produced. At 21 months, I'm still breastfeeding about 1-2 times a day. When i am at work (12 hour shifts) i sometimes miss a day or two. It hasn't seemed to affect my milk supply at all. My breasts have returned to normal and if i tried pumping, I would get maybe 1/2 oz if I'm lucky. I know I have more milk in there than that- otherwise he would have given up a long time ago. I've read that 1/3 of milk is stored milk and can be pumped and a further 2/3 is made on the fly. some sites to have a look at: http://kellymom.com/herbal/milksupply/fenugreek.html and this one on RELACTATION http://www.kellymom.com/bf/supply/relactation.html i love the kelly mom website, so much helpful info! and being successful at breastfeeding is so much easier if you are assisted and supported appropriately. Feel free to message me if you need any support or have questions.

megandgrace - 884 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Also pumping every 3 hours for a couple weeks and having him nurse as much as possible could bring it back up. Also drink lots of water and increase your calorie intake in a healthy way should help too.

mother649808 - 884 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Yes fenugreek works wonders! Also the neonatologist in the nicu had me taking a fish oil supplement as well. Its a great vitamin for the babies brain and eye development! Best of luck to you!!!!

M2G - 884 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) There is an perscription med that you can get - speak to your DR about it. Increasing feedings, go back to pumping, will also help. Also Oatmeal is a natural way to increas your supply.

juels101 - 884 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) You can try fenugreek, it's a herb from the healtfood store, but there are also pills that I have to take while breastfeeding to keep my supply going. Couldnt tell you the name off hand, but just ask your doctor and they'll be able to tell you. Worked perfectly for me, hope it does for you too ^_-
