First time in crib Added: 882 days ago. Added by: mommy2lucas Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
So Lucas had his first nap in his crib last night and he was fine. I just laid him down about 15 minutes ago and he will just not fall asleep. Do I go in and sooth him or just let it go. I know we`re trying this so late but our old apartment had absolutely no room for a crib whatsoever! Any advice would really help.

Saw a tip on Super Nanny (or similar show) where the mom expressed some breast milk on a burp cloth and put it in the crib beside the baby. Worked a charm. If you do not breast feed, she suggested putting in one of your (worn) tshirts or a few drops of lavendar oil on a blanket. Try to keep his surroundings as normal as possible (same toys/mobile/curtains etc)

If he's crying then about every 10 mins or so (providing he's not crying so hard he's choking) I would go in and give him his soothing mechanism (blanket, pacifier if you use one, stuffed animal, ect) whatever works for him. Give him some support and just let him know that you are there for him but he's just fine all by himself. Eventually he will get the hang of it. I have 4 kids and at the max it only took 3 days before they figured it out.

No looking back. What you've done in the past was what worked for you at the time. Just some perspective: When you get into bed, do you fall immediately to sleep? When you're in a new environment, say you're traveling, and you get into a strange bed, how much time do you think is reasonable to allow yourself to fall asleep? No idea how much time is right for you, but I thought that might help you come up with an amount of time to "give it." There's no wrong answer. Best wishes.
