miscarriage?? Added: 880 days ago. Added by: amber-lamber Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
My friend went in for an ultrasound today, and with the math she did, she figured she has to be at least 7-8 weeks pregnant, but the doctor measured the baby to give her a due date, and the doctor couldn`t find a heart beat and said that the baby is only measuring 6 weeks, which really isn`t possible. The doctor told her that she may be having a miscarriage. Does this make sense? Like even though the doctor saw the baby in her tummy?? I don`t really know anything about miscarrying and I just kinda wanna know what might be going on...Thanks ladies.

I hope your friend has a happy outcome, sometimes they are wrong, or sometimes you can be behind in dates but things are normal. My story isn't so possitive, I had an ultrasound at 8 1/2 weeks with my second pregnancy and they told me the baby was only measuring 6 1/2 weeks, and there was no heartbeat. They said that it was possible that it could just be too early to see the heartbeat (but not likely) and that my dates could be wrong. I had to have blood tests and further ultrasounds, but I was told that I was probably having a miscarriage, which they called a missed miscarriage because the baby had died but I hadn't 'lost' it yet. This dragged on for what felt like an eternity and I went through so many emotions, and I never bled, so I couldn't believe I had 'miscarried'. When I was about 11 weeks the doctors confirmed that my baby had only grown to about 7 weeks, but had no heartbeat. I ended up having to have a D&C because my body wasn't 'getting rid of' the baby, and I had an infection because of it. It was traumatising, but with time it got a little easier. I wish your friend all the best, but she may need to prepare herself for a bad outcome, just in case.

7 weeks is still early to have a heart beat, maybe she is not counting right? Good that she will wait. Best wishes for her.

Yes this is possible unfortunately. I had the same problem and ended up m/c @ what I counted to be 9 weeks. But with that being said she could also have ovulated a little later than thought and there might not be anything wrong at all which I also had happen and my little girl just turned 7 weeks old yesterday. Please keep me updated, I would like to know if you'll tell me. Hopefully all is well! Best wishes!

Yes your levels are supposed to double every two days to they will check them to get a starting point and if they are rising then it's a good sign if not then something is wrong.

Thanks guys, she told me that the doctor suggested to go and get an hcg test done (I think it's Hcg?) and then she has to go again next week to see if her levels are going up or down and that can pretty much determine if she is miscarrying or not. Make sense?

I would have her wait another week and then get another ultrasound. I have had 4 miscarriages and I was told at 6 weeks you should have a heart beat or atleast see a fetal pole. You can still miscarry and see everything that should be there but just not the most important things like the fetal pole and heartbeat.

6wks may be too early to the heartbeat. and it is possible the your friend ovulated late. but obviously its impossible to know. if i were your friend i would get a second opinion.
