Breast feeders, I could use some support Added: 876 days ago. Added by: mariettap Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
ugh. Breastfeeding for 9+mos and going strong. The past few wks I`ve had an itching nipple. I called my care providers and they said to treat it with Nyststin, assuming it`s a mild yeast infection, since I have no stabbing pains in the breast. Well just now I found a firm lump, just outside the nipple. Could be a plugged duct...or not. Can a plugged duct cause itching? I know, I`m going to call and talk to the nurse next. Just reaching out for reassurance.

OK, I'm going to live: Yes, I have thrush of the nipple and am treating it, *but* the lump went away while I was nursing. It was just the end of a duct that was full of milk. As soon as my baby woke from her nap, I fed her and then it was gone. whew.

I had a cloagged duct and what happened to me was I had an area on my breast that was a hard lump and it was redand sore. The nurse had me apply a warm compress and breastfeed frequently on that side and it went away.. if that doesn't work they will have to give you antibiotics.. as if left untreated you can get a breast infection, but I never had itching but I heard you can get thrush of the nipple but I would definetly call your doctor.. goodluck!

I'm not too sure about the clogged duct, as I don't think I've had one, but my son and I just recently got over Thrush, and my nipples have been itching like crazy. It's mostly when he's feeding and it starts off like a tickle. I hate it. But it may be caused by an infection like they thought. Or a clogged duct as it is in the same area. I know when I get really full at work mine itch like no other! I'm assuming a clogged duct is filled up just like when your engorged/full. I'm sorry if I didn't help and I hope it gets better for you.

I'm not POSATIVE itching is a part of the plugged duct, but the rest sounds like it!
