i found out a week ago that i`m prego w/ my second. my daughter just turned 1! anyway i don`t have insurance and i`m wondering how imperative it is that i make a dr appt immediately? i believe i`m about 9 wks now already (wasnt expecting this) i just applied for medicaid and its of course not the one my doc takes so now i`m really worrying. i know they check the heartbeat the first appt but other then getting vitamins is it really that important i make an appt right away? if so how am i to pay for it?!

also one more thing sorry.. lol with medicaid, you can still go to the dr. they can bill you, then you can send in the bill to medicaid after the fact. i was waiting for medcaid once and had to go to the er a week before i was approved for it years ago, and they just billed me, and when the medicaid came through the state paid the bill. they said i could submitt any other medical bills i had from the past 6 months i think it was prior to having the MA.

oh you can buy prenatal over the counter now at walmart. you can also take flinstone vitamins if the prenatals make you sick. but it is very important you be seen by someone bc you need to know that the baby has implanted where its supposed to, that everything is going how it should, etc. i wouldnt wait too long. typically you wont be seen by the dr until 8-12 weeks anyway depending on the dr. mine wanted me there early as possible with this one, my first wouldnt see me til closer to 12weeks. good luck and gratz on the pregnancy

planned parenthood will give you a referal. i didnt have medical insurance either, so i actually went down to the welfare office. i dont get any food stamps or anything but i do qualify for medical insurance for pregnant women. i forget exactly what its called but its through the medicaid. i would definatly go to planned parenthood for a referall and a proof of pregnancy note. (youll have to do that anyway to get on the insurance). the good thing with the medical for pregnant women is you dont have to wait. you can just walk into the office with the proof of pregnancy from planned parenthood, and talk to someone. they will need proof of income, proof of residency, photo id. you can give them proof of your household expenses and bills later or just bring them with you .. just in case. =))
its really good too. my drs are really nice, i got to pick from a huge list of places. good luck!

every time I have been pregnant, when I would call to make an appointment for the first time, 2 different dr offices, they would always wait until i was about 10 weeks along and that was just the initial nurse appt. I never saw am ob until i was 12 weeks ( and that was only with this pregnancy since the first two didn't make it through to that). I wouldn't be too worried about it. a lot of women don't know they are pregnant that early on anyway!

My sister didn't have insurance when she got pregnant and she went to a family planning place. She told them she thought she was pregnant (she knew she was), they gave her a pregnancy test and scheduled an appointment. That was when she was about 8-10 weeks. She then waited until 15 weeks to see her OBGYN. That was the soonest she could see him. So, look around your town and see if there's a place like that around. They can at least look to make sure the baby's looking good and hear the heartbeat... Oh, yeah, they're usually free services.... If you can't get covered or find a doctor that takes your insurance then you might want to talk to them about a payment plan. They'll be willing to work wth you, I'm sure.

Yes it is very important especially for that first ultrasound. They make sure the baby is in your uterus not in some other part of your body like your tube. When you call and make the appointment they should ask you about insurance if you still don't have any tell them that and that you would like to set a payment plan to cover the costs.
