So i am having a really hard time figuring out if i should give my 17 month old a flu shot, and the swine flu shot. I am usually not very weary of vaccines but these alarm me. My doc said its really my decision. They say if you get the shot, and you can still get sick but it may not be as severe. I`m just unsure, as you can see. Input please :)

vickiessecret - 873 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My daughter got her first flu shot..my husband and I have decided that we do not want her to get the swine flu shot. This form of the flu just came out, they already have a vaccine..they mass produced it and it's not even tested or proven yet. My pediatrician..isn't for it, so I don't have to worry about him trying to get me to get her vaccinated. He said they don't know enough about it...it's too soon. So we are not getting her the swine flu shot.. Take Care

mother649808 - 874 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Debra- by no means am I trying to start a debate. I'm sorry if you took my post personally. I just know that it took an outsider to point things out to me and I would have liked for someone to have told me sooner about seperating vaccines. Sorry didn't mean to cause any conflict here.

Personally, i've always thought it suspicious that autism is on the rise at the same time that children and adults are eating poorer diets rich in processed products and lack nutrient-packed meals that include a healthy portion ratio of carbs, fruits and veggies and protein. Pre-packaged snacks, soda, cereals jammed with sugar, pre frozen meals are what people are eating, obesity is on the rise, exercise is down, tv watching up... is what we consider items that make our lifestyles easier actually damaging us? more things to think about. But that's just my opinion and i'm entitled to that, as you are to yours. Just as choosing to vaccinate is your choice. I just hope that choice is based on facts and is an educated one.

-avasmama- - 874 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) With the exception of some flu shots, and some tetanus shots, mercury is no longer used in vaccines~

-avasmama- - 874 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) flu shots are available thimerosal (murcury) free. So if that is the only concern with a flu shot, then just opt for a thimerosal free one.

mother649808 - 874 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Debra- yes by not getting vaccinated you are taking a chance, I agree. However, my personal opinion on this is to only vaccinate on the absolute necessary. My twins are already at an increased risk for autism. Think about it....you spend 9 months avoiding mercury because it can harm your unborn baby, then when they are born we start injecting them with it??? 40,000 kids a year are diagnosed with autism....it wasn't this way years ago, obviously there's a problem somewhere. As I said before, I WILL have my children vaccinated because not only do eve these vaccines but its also necessary for our society to stay healthy. However, never will I take my children in to get 4,5, or even 6 vaccinations at one time. As a matter of fact they just got their first synagis shots yesterday. I don't object to vaccinating, I do object to exposing them to all of these toxins in one round. It may take us longer but we will eventually get them done!

Debra - 875 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I have to agree that I'm unsure as to whether or not the H1N1 flu vaccine has been tested enough. However, that being said- the chances that you will be even sicker by contracting the actual virus is even higher. I do feel that parents should do their research and make decisions based on what is best for their families. I do wish that people would also keep in mind that many viruses have been erradicated (small pox)that killed a lot of people back in the day. Now due to parents fearing some preservatives used in flu shots, viruses are making a comeback. There has been an outbreak of rubella near the california mexico border in recent months (and if a women is exposed in early pregnancy, this can cause blindness in their babies). Do you buckle your seatbelt ? think about vaccines as a seatbelt. Sure you might not get in an accident every day... your chances of contracting a virus is also unknown. But would you rather get a bit sick from the vaccine? or die from the virus. If you get in a car accident, your chances of dying is much higher without the seatbelt. You get to choose whether or not you click the belt. Tough decision. In my city right now, there is one school that has over 30% of children sick from mild 'flu like symptoms.' It is not the only school. In my hospital, i've seen 3 cases of H1N1 diagnosed in the past 2 weeks. I don't work every day, so I think that's high considering i've rarely encountered flu viruses at work. Unfortunately, the diagnosis came after they were coughing and sneezing in their four-bed room. It's an isolation nightmare. Am I going to vaccinate myself for the flu? you betcha. I've been vaccinated every year and have never gotten sick. I also had my son vaccinated last year without incidence. I'd rather risk feeling a bit under the weather from a muted down version of the virus than contracting it and dying from it. If we are offered the H1N1 vaccine, i'll take that too. http://www.cbc.ca/health/story/2009/09/18/h1n1-who-cdc.html you should also know that it is surprising health officials that people who are dying of H1N1 have been young adults age 20-40 without any previous ill health and school age children. So think long and hard, but make your decision based on facts you can find on reputed sites and statistics of who is getting sick and where the outbreaks are occuring. I would be wary of scare tactics on 'you tube' as you don't know if that is a trusted source or not.

mother649808 - 875 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) This as well as all vaccines seems to be something a lot of people would rather not talk about. However, I have done extensive research and decided that the flu shot will NOT be given to my boys. I have also decided to slow their vaccines in general down and not allow them to have so many at one time. This is a very personal decision. Please do some research and make and educated decision on what's best for you and your LO! Good luck!!!

momof2boyz - 875 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Just got this by email, and I thought you would like to take a look. Good luck with whatever you decide. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqlM5dtFv0M&feature=sub

Its-Chelle - 875 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i have been recommended that as well for my son who is almost 3. but i too am unsure about it all.

xXxEXPLOxXx - 875 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I personally will not be having the swine flu vaccine, therefore my baby (should swine flu still be a problem when she's here) won't be. In my opinion, swine flu vaccines are too new, under-tested and the virologists are still unsure as to weather it'll mutate further (thus rendering this vaccine useless). Personal opinion, but one I believe you shouldn't rush into (swine flu is one big myth, remember, and too many "authorities" contradict each other). I don't think I'd have problems with the flu shot, but I suggest you read into it and ask all sorts of people questions! :D
