vickiessecret - 869 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My daughter did the same thing to me, she would be on for over an hour I'd take her off and she wasn't satisfied. Then I got thrush and was cracked and bleeding..so was only able to pump..and I couldn't even pump out 4 ounces in a day, pumping every 2 hours. I tried feenugreek, blessedthistle and they even wrote me a prescription for reglan to help my supply and nothing worked for me. They told me I really did try everything and the lactation consultant said..I did try and she guesses I just don't make enough milk. I hope it works out better for you. I'm pregnant again and I'm defenitely trying to breastfeed again, I just hope this time..I make milk like a cow lol.. Take Care

juels101 - 869 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Sounds like you might be the soother haha. You can't necissarily run out of milk. Though many times they will get flat and feel empty, they produce milk on demand. They don't always have to be hard as a rock to have milk in them. It is of course possible you don't have enough, not saying it isnt, just not probable. The doc can give you a perscription for your milk supply, or you can try Fenugreek from the healfood store. As for the pacifier I'm not sure how to stop that as I've never experienced it, or known anyone who did and did something about it. <3 It's hard work give them the best lol, good on ya for keeping it up.

CarolineTx24 - 869 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I went through this with my newborn...she insisted on using me as a pacifier. If you are concerned about not producing enough milk try fenugreek seeds. You can get them at an Indian/Arabic store. Just put a couple teaspoons in boiling water and let them steep for 5-10 minutes. But about the "human pacifier" my baby insisted on using me to fall asleep with. It took about 1 week of me being the mean guy. If you are sure she has eaten a good meal within the past 1.5-2 hrs then you just have to get her used to his/her crib and put up with crying for about 1-2 weeks. My mom always told me if she is crying hysterically for more than 10 minutes then you need to pick her up. A swing also works for us pretty good too. They say if they are cosleeping the human pacifier thing is harder to deal with.

TANYA214 - 869 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) omgggggggg my baby did the same thing..it was not fun! i feel for ya....the dr told me to give him a pacifier..didnt work he would spit it out! at night time he would just want to suck on my nipple just for comfort! i dont have any suggestions...i had to unfortuanltey stop breastfeeding at 10 weeks due to work. Look it up on the internet tons of women go through comfort sucking issues..the drs say let the baby do it...but i know its super hard on the mom :) goodluck BREAST IS BEST heheh

xanthe - 869 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) my baby did that, and still does in the evenings for about 2 hours. then she ends up sleeping on me, so i cant move. my doc said its fine and let her do it, and like the others said, she had a huge growth spurt. she's 5 weeks now, born at just under 6 lbs, now about 8 lbs! some doctors office's have walk-in service for weight checks.

cleebel - 869 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I have breastfed 3 kids and they should not be latched on that long. Could cause problems for your nipples. I would definetely use a pacifier. If she is swallowing it might be okay for 20 min a breast but not much longer than that. You may need to supplement if you are not making enough milk. Best luck.

MsModernBeauty - 869 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) sounds like the 2 weeks growth spurt just came a little late. the first growth spurt is really hard on momma! its when most people who quit earlyon decide to. this too will pass, keep your sanity, drink lots of water, use nipple cream, and eat. you two will get through this! mariettap - 869 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) PS: I agree w/ megandgrace. It is possible that she is loading up for a growth spurt, and let he sip your milk just as often as she asks. Still, it's a good idea to call to get her weighed, etc, as below.

mariettap - 869 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I had this experience as well when my supply dropped after an illness. I think with such a young baby and concerns about milk production you should call and ask the nurse at your pediatrician's office if you can come in today for a weight check on their scale, have an appt with the doc to discuss, *and* a referral for a lactation consultant. They'll want to know how many wet diapers & how many dirty diapers per day, and they'll be looking at her progress on the growth chart. You can't be too proactive about this. I found it extremely stressful to be worrying about whether the baby had enough. People suggested the baby was "using me as a pacifier" and suggested I supplement with formula, but the baby wasn't just looking to be soothed--She was looking to have her belly filled! And if you and the doc decide that supplementing with formula is what is needed, then the lactation consultant can help you figure out what to do to be sure that, while supplementing, your breast don't further diminish their production of milk.

megandgrace - 869 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) She is making your body produce more milk, this will happen every now and again. Since milk is a supply and demand thing, the more she nurses the more you will produce in the days to come. You can try a pacifier for some occasions but she is preparing your body for a growth spurt she will be experiencing soon. Personally if possible i would allow her to nurse for how ever long she wants.

xidja - 869 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) does she have a pacifier? ask your doc about the breastfeeding that is too long for her to be latched on to you! can you tell if she's drinking (swallowing)?

umich0730 - 869 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I agree that is too long. I am breastfeeding right now as well and that should not occur. She is just pacifying herself to sleep. You could try a pacifier if she has not problems nursing. I doubt that she is not getting enough to eat. You may have to let her cry it out or rock her.
