Nooooo, I put my crib together when I was like 6 months pregnant.. Just dont think about it. The more you feed into things, the more they come true, so just try and brush it off!

its really not going to change any outcome if the crib is up or not. i have mine set up bc with the job my SO has, we dont know when he will find the time to do it, and what if LO comes early? and we also had to make sure the crib was still good (been in storage for 7 years was my duaghters). its just superstition. so long as there isnt a black cat under the crib at midnight on a full moon, and hubby wears a green shirt you should be fine ;0)... seriously dont worry about the crib. although if someone i dont know is setting it up , i would just check it out to make sure they did it right. =))) **hugs**

I think it is just another one of those silly superstition. I have had my baby's room set up for a few weeks. All I need is the bedding and his room is done. I wouldn't worry about it. She will get over it.

I dont think its bad luck its being prepared! I'm suprised that the furniture company is putting together the crib. I worked for a furniture company and they refused to put cribs together because of the liability. Just be sure they dont cut any corners cause most furniture companys sub out the delivery part which means the people putting together your items dont have much expierence. Good luck!

I like mdbaby's suggestion! Tell her that if she thinks it's such a bad thing to do then ask her to put the crib up for ya'll when you're in the hospital. If she doesn't like it, then tell her you'll put it up when it's convenient for you... I know I had mine up at least a month before because my LO's nursery was done a month before.

I've NEVER heard of that. I wouldn't worry. We have my daughters crib up months before she was born.

My mil said the same thing (amongst other silly superstitions) and I had the baby's room all ready 4 days before I was induced. Depends on what you believe in but I have never in my life heard that the baby's room is done while you are in the hospital. You're the 2nd person I've heard this from (and from your mil)!!! She's not Greek by chance is she??? xox

Hahaha- tell her if she would like to set it up while everyone is at the hospital visiting the new baby she is more than welcome. Hahaha, just kidding! We had ours set up probably about a month and a half before I was due. I wanted everything ready to go.

I am torn with this one. First, I thought sure, go ahead and wait. With both of ours, we had the crib up and ready but we used a bassinet or pack&play beside our bed for weeks before we ever put the tiny baby in the big crib, so there's time. Then I thought again: If your fiance's mother "dropped a bomb" informing you of how to run your family in a way that pleases or appeases her, then no time like the present to set things straight about who will be calling the shots regarding decisions for your family. I'd talk with my partner, decide together what makes the 2 of us the happiest, and then do what works for us. If questioned, and I know if it were my MIL I'd hear about it again, I'd simply say, "Yes, I remember you telling me that you were feeling superstitious. We've talked about it as a couple and don't share those concerns. This is what works for us." The end. You can never be too soon in letting everyone know what they can expect of you as parents, b/c if you leave room for meddling, they'll meddle! The tighter you 2 seem as a pair, the less room they'll find for interfering in your decisions.

set the crib up, don't worry about what your fiance's mother told you, you want the nursery complete and finished in plenty of time. Good Luck!!

Its called laws of attraction ~ like attracts like, it is only bad luck and bad luck will happen if you truly belief it. I think it is a silly superstition and one that I know none have followed ~ everyone I know put their crib up and all have done fine :) If something goes wrong it has nothing to do with the crib being set up ~
