Coffee increases chance of miscarriage? Added: 857 days ago. Added by: LC Melbourne Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
I was just wondering if coffee really has any relation to m/c and if so how much is dangerous? (i had a m/c almost 2 weeks ago :o( and read that it may be a contributing factor, but i only have 1 coffee a day maybe only 1 every 2 days) Thanks for your help.

Hi, just catching up here. I am sorry to hear of your loss. I too had a period of searching to find out what I might have done that could have contributed to our misfortune. It's so painful to lose someone you love or promise to love. If you look around, there's a ton of superstition about pregnancy, and onlookers and even loved ones will be all too happy to hand you a list of things you ought to be doing differently if you're having trouble w/ ttc or trying to see a pregnancy through to birth. Feel free to stop by my page and drop a note if you would like me to be in your corner.

One thing to consider is that dehydration can cause misscarriage & drinks like coffee and pop are diuretics. Drinking only these types of drinks & not enough water can be very bad. However in most cases, misscarriages happen for genetic reasons that have nothing to do with our lifestyle. I'm sorry for your loss. I lost a baby at 13 wks last year. Please don't put too much thought into what you did or didn't do wrong. I did the same thing after mine. I searched for answers trying to understand what could be responsible. Now that I'm pregnant again I am careful to follow all the "rules," but we can do everything right & still experiene loss. Best of luck to you.

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate your feedback/advice. I was ready to swear coffee, tea, soft drinks off, but now i can feel comfortable in having my 1 a day :o) Its just amazing how many articles i have read to tell me to stop drinking it or else i am killing my pregnancy myself. This whole TTC business can be very stressful.. Once again thanks ladies :o) xo

I'm sorry for your loss, according to my high risk OB, You can have 300mg caffiene safely during pregnancy. the average cup of coffee has around 60mg. it most likely had nothing to do with the miscarriage.

Hi Im so sorry to hear of ur loss! But I dont think coffee has any place to do with it. I am crazy about Tea so similar to coffee, I drink 6-8mugs maybe more somedays a day, so ur 1/2cups a day is not excessive or anything. U drank the average limits they set for pregnant women, so dont blame urself! xx

So sorry for your loss (((hugs))) I dont feel coffee has anything bearing ~ many many moms to be drink coffee and if there was a connection the number of mc's would be more enormous. I drank my coffee, 2 cups every day with every pregnancy and never a problem ((hugs))

The guideline daily amount of caffiene when pregnant is 300mg per day.. To give a rough idea... one mug of coffee = 90mg, one cup of coffee = 60mg, one cup of tea = 50mg one can of energy drink (redbull) = 80mg. Energy drinks are NOT a no-no at all... just be sensible. And 1 cup per day or 1 cup every 2 days is NOT excessive LC and I doubt highly this played a part in your miscarriage x
