What does it feel like to give birth? Added: 856 days ago. Added by: janet8191 Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
I am 31 weeks and I am very nervous because it is getting closer to my due date. I`ve been asking questions and stuff about what is it like and how bad does it hurt. I went to my mom but my mom doesnt know what it feels like because she had c disections and never felt pain anywhere in her body. When I ask other people they dont give me the answer I am looking for.

the feeling of the baby actually coming out burns more than hurts .. like a numb feeling goes over your body. Its hard to explain. The actual contractions HURT alot more than the baby coming out. Once the head is out, its a breeze :)

Its prob the worse pain one can ever have .. but good news .. it only last's a short period & the outcome is AWESOME :) There are ALOT of pain meds you can ask for. Don't worry to much hun .. remember childbirth cant be THAT bad, afterall millions of woman do it everyday & still go back for more :)

I had no pain medication with my DD. They broke my water at 8:00 am and she was in my arms at 3:10pm. The contractions hurt, but just when you think you cant take anymore the contraction will let off and you catch your breath to do it again. The worst part of labor for me was that I was throwing up. But I am definitely the type that throws up if I stump my toe though! :0) Just remember that women have been doing this for thousands of years! Also after you have your baby, you cant imagine the pride you will feel for doing something so amazing!!!

although it is terrible pain ... you know it only lasts a short period of time (usually 48 hours tops) so after that its all over and baby is in your arms :) id take it anyday over a broken bone or something long lasting, but being through contractions before etc, i will be getting an epidural this time around :)

I think it depends on your frame of mind. Yes, it's painful. I am certain it is the most blissful pain I will ever know. With my 1st, I had poor support (lousy doc, lousy nurse, lousy hospital) and was not as well informed, so when I felt contractions, the pain frightened me, which made it all worse. With my 2nd, I had great providers, a wonderful, supportive staff, good hospital where they let my spouse be more involved and they helped him to support me better. I'd also read a great book which deepened my belief that childbirth is what women were built for and not something to be feared, but to be embraced. With each contraction, I felt closer to my baby, and my provider encouraged me to be strengthened, not weakened by them. It's one of my favorite things to think about. I'd give birth 10 times before ever going through another pregnancy, if I could! (let me know if you want a book recommendation)

The only way to describe it is like having really, really bad period cramps. as long as you don't have back labour - that I can't describe as I didn't have it. But I have heard it is the absolute worst pain. If you believe in the epidural - take it. If you think you can go through a natural birth - do all you can to have it. Just remember to breathe and as everyone else says - stay calm! Millions of women have done this for years - we have pain medications now if you really can't take it. Good luck to you - it seriously is not that bad!!! xox

different for everyone. my mom had bad back pain with me. with my daughter it was like the worst period cramps ive ever had. the epidural didnt work on me right. my cousin had no pain with hers after she got the epidural and had very easy births. it really depends on the woman, her age, the size of the baby, if there are complications, individual pain tolerances, what medications are used, etc. etc. the best thing to do is to try not to think about it. for me i was more annoyed it was taking so long bc i was tired and wanted her out. it wasnt so much the pain as it was the physical and emotional exhaustion after being in labor for 2 days, not eating, having the labor stall, getting pitocin, etc. my aunt said it felt like she had to poop. i didnt think it felt like that. whatever it ends up feeling like for you, rest assured you will get through it. there are (in my oppinion) more painful things. i would rather give birth than have the pain i have with my teeth. tooth pain imo can be so much worse. =)

Hi Janet,
I gave natural birth to my daughter no epidurals nothing I gave birth as natural as could be. No birth is the same. For me I started bleeding at first and started getting allot of cramps. It felt the same as having a runny tummy. My tummy was working as well when I went into labour. I got pain in my back as well as my tummy like period pains and I had no idea what to rub first, I was very comfortable in a sitting position so I hogged the toilet, and sat on a chair allot. The Doctor broke my water for me when I went to the delivery room. As soon as you get to a point where you can’t do it anymore it will all be over. I’m not going to lie to you it was very painful but worth every single moment and most beautiful experience you’ll ever have. Hope this will be of some help.

it is really hard to explain what labour feels like...as for me it hurt so bad having the contractions but the crownin was just a stinging sensaton...whereas my sister in law didn't suffer more than mild period cramps but was absolute agony for her pushing!
i would say stop stressing over it...it's going to happen whether you want it to or not...so relax...that is the best thing you can do in labou as when you reax your body is supposed to release a natural pain supressing hormone!
oh...i was back being intimate with my oh within a week and a half of giving birth so it can't be that bad! lol

Like tahliasmummyandttc said every one is different, everyone has their own pain threshold. My first labour with my son wasnt to bad at all I had no drugs and a pretty short labour my other two kids decided they wanted to be spine to spine so they were both back labours and they hurt like anything and I still had no drugs with either of them and again they were short the shortest being my 5 month old son who was 50 mins 1st stage and then 20 mins 2nd stage. Good luck on the birth of your baby and try and not stress to much about the pain and just think of the joy afterwards

Everybodys labour is different, different complications, different weight of the baby etc . But yeh it hurts! Hurts like hell but as soon as the babys out the pain is instanly gone. But don't stress about it, the more u stress the more it'll proberly hurt. I never thought about labour I was never scared or worried about it, and my labour was fantastic.
