water breaking questions

So, my husband seems to think the “OMG, my water broke! We need to go to the hospital now!” is going to be so exciting. Well, I am thinking differently. I am thinking that I don’t want fluids gushing out of me in the middle of work, or while sleeping in my bed or in my car or in public! What did you ladies do to prevent that? Is wearing a pad enough to keep from “over-spill” onto a couch or bed? Did you still go about your days as normal when it gets close to the end? Are you able to determine when it is going to happen? Can it be anytime in the last month? Sorry for all of the questions, but ever since my husband told me how “exciting” that part will be, it really got me thinking. Thanks!

I didn't go into labor until 14hrs hours later. Once in labor it was a TON of water and blood! GROSS!!! I also worked right up until the end. In fact, I was at work on Wednesday and Thursday my daughter was born. I had a feeling she was coming. You just know. At least I can tell. With my first I noticed I was humming more. With my daughter...I just knew. Hard to explain.

nevertooyoung19 - 853 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My water broke when i was 6 cms dialted and in AWEFULL labor. I was in the middle of a contraction and i was fighting it so hard. and the pressure of the contraction and me pushing back on it caused it to POP. i KNEW. i was laying on the stinkin hospital bed crying and screaming and then gush... "my water just broke!"

barunka05 - 854 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) With my first my water broked when i was asleep in my bed and it was loot, i tried the pad but didn't work thats how i knew its my water and that i didn't pee on myself lol. I went to the hospital right away and i was still leaking so i arived there with towel between my legs. I didn't know better than but now i would wait because usually u have some time before your contractions starts.

youngmom3 - 854 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My water broke and I thought it was just ALOT of discharge, my underwear was wet but it never went onto my pants! I didn't think much about it, until my grandmother made me call the dr office a day later, bc i would just stay wet. I went to the hospital and it turned out that it was my water.

graciesmomma - 854 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I've read that only about 10% of women's water breaks on its own. By the time it breaks, you're well into labor already. I think that with the docs advising to head to the hospital when contractions are five minutes apart, water spontaneously breaking is not as common as it used to be. Try not to worry because odds are in your favor! :)

mama2be12.24.09 - 854 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i know a lot of women whos water didnt break well into labor sometimes with the aid of the doc. but if it is going to happen a pad may help, one girls broke and just small gushes at a time over a couple hours came out, never know, wouldnt hurt to wear one

MTNWOMAN - 854 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) for me, a pad did the job. I had started bleeding a tiny bit that morning and had put a big ol pad on. I was having contractions for about 7 hours and they were getting closer together and stronger so Hubby and I decided it was time to go to the hospital. As I stood up I felt a bunch of leakage and I waddled to the bath room and saw that my water had broke. I got a new pad and put a towel on the car seat and drove to the hospital. Because my boy was in delivery position his head kept blocking the opening and so it was more like little bunches of water at a time. It never soaked me or anything like that.

TaraR - 854 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My water broke on it's own. It was a huge gush. I was laying in bed and it wouldn't stop. It was a weird feeling.

mdbabyno1 - 854 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Oh, and because I was already so dilated my dr warned me to get to the hospital ASAP if my water did break because it would be a fast labor. That is why we headed straight to the hospital.

mdbabyno1 - 854 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Mine broke, not a huge gush but like I had peed in my pants. I had NO contractions before had, but I did feel that sick feeling like when I am about to get my period. After my water broke is when the pain went from a 0-9 in about a half an hour. I was already 4-5 cm dilated at my appointment that morning so I don't know if that had something to do with it.

skittles0607 - 854 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) With my first the dr broke my water. I was having pretty bad contractions befrore he did it though. With my 2nd my contractions started and alittle while after my water broke. it felt like I had just peed myself. It wasnt a big gush.. You should be ok. You should be feeling contractions before it breaks so plenty of time to get somewhere so its not embarrasing and thats if it even breaks on its own.

jamiespaulding - 854 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Mine leaked. Never a gush, just a slow drip. I honestly thought it was pee until it continued for almost 24 hours. Good Luck!

mikeysmommyof2 - 854 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Some women will have a leak in the water and it wont fully break until either oushing or if the dr breaks it. But no there is no way to feel or know when it is about to happen, and you can wear a pad to help with leaking, but once it breaks....no pad is enough. i was lucky and mine broke in the hospital hallway after being induced....my SIL however had hers break in public. She too was worried about being embarrased but honestly....it is a VERY exciting thing when it does happen and whether in public or not....ur focus is not where it just happened but instead where you are headed next.

vickiessecret - 854 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Not everyone experiences their water breaking like that. Some women their water does spontaneously breaks..but not most. The doctors actually had to break my water. You can go into labor without your water breaking. It just feels like your peeing yourself slowly...it's an odd feeling.. :)
