oh BLW is skipping mush as first food, and going straight to whole, soft food. Full term breastfeeding is allowing your baby to wean when they are ready. i did both, personally, BLW i fell into, as my son refuse any food from a spoon, then when he was 8 1/2 months, i gave him a whole cooked broccoli, which he devoured :) but as far as nursing goes.. its still milk, so it has all the benefits of regular milk, while being species specific, so its more healthful than cows, it has all the same benefits at age 2 as in infancy- immunological benefits, a babys immune system isnt fully functioning until they are 4 or so, so any added boost they get from you is going to help them stay healthy-and perhaps one of the most significant but most ignored is the comfort they get from nursing. many, many small children suck their thumbs or a pacifier in an attempt to sooth, and this behavior is mimicking nursing. its normal and natural for toddlers to want to suck to settle down if they are frightened or upset. the majority of the worlds population practices full term breastfeeding, its just our culture which has sexualized the breast to the point where many women dont feel comfortable using them as they were intended to be used. no, im not working, but studying full time. if its important to you, then you find ways to work it out.

My daughter is 1 year old now and she started cutting out or going longer between feedings in her 10th month. I'm a bit torn however as I would like a 2nd baby and I am 40 next year. Time is ticking. I will likely wean slowly - I still haven't had my period although many mom's I know have while still nursing. However, my period is really screwed up anyway so I'm not holding my breath that it will come soon after weaning anyway. But we will see!! I have read and been told that our baby's get all they need from breastfeeding in the first 2 years - anything after that is just comfort and habit. I have started my daughter on regular milk and she really does not like it but I'm waiting for a week to go by and then try her on goat's milk. Good luck to you!!! xox

i practice BLW. Im still BF now and she is just over a year. I dont have a set time frame for my BF, whenever she is ready... shes still pretty attached to the boob lol. I do go to school full time, so we just nurse in the mornings, late afternoon and before bed. and still overnight if she wakes up/isnt feeling well. We never really did baby food, but i started offering her pieces of food around 6 months. she has been totally on table foods since around 8 months and she eats what she feels like eating. i dont force her to eat. during the day, she gets a sippy of soy milk for at daycare, which she rarely ever drinks all of. she really just prefers breastmilk to any other milk. and she is certainly getting enough to eat between food and her BM. she is 22 and a half pounds. The benefits to extended breastfeeding are things like getting antibodies/helping their immune system and i feel quite strongly about the bonding experience/closeness. there is research that shows that breastfed babies have higher iq's and get sick less often amongst other things. this is not to say that formula fed babies are not smart or are sick all the time because they are usually not, however, if you want to know more about it feel free to message me. also, www.kellymom.com is a great breasfteeding and extended breastfeeding site. it has alot of great info.
