Are you planning to create a birth plan to take to the hospital? If so, what kind of requests will be included in your plan?

smiling politely - 20 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) its nice to have a plan.. but i wouldnt be married to it. talk to your doctor about what you want, you may find certain Doctors prefer to deliver certain ways-like some may be in favor of early intervention, while others may prefer to try for as little intervention as possible. if your doctor doesnt share the same views as you, you need to find out why, and agree to do it their way or find a doctor who is more inclined to do things how you prefer.. but after all is said and done, so long as you leave hospital with a safe and healthy baby, how they come into the world isnt so important. sometimes though, because women have their hearts set on a certain type of birth, if it doesnt happen they way they planned, they are of a higher risk of PPD and feelings of depression about the birth. so find a doctor who you are comfortable with, and hope for the best :)

mariettap - 21 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) birth plans can help you feel empowered going into the hospital, but can make you feel awful when not followed. Many times the staff is unable to honor the plans due to hospital policies, or even due to differences in philosophy between the doctor and delivering mother. My suggestion: Make up a wish list, short and sweet, and bring it to your next OB visit to use as a starting point for discussion. You can use it to get straight talk about what the doctor supports, how he/she will or will not support those goals, and the degree to which he/she feels the facility's policies and staff support those goals. My midwives have a 2 page form which they asked patients to fill out. You can message me if you'd like me to share it with you.

RainbowRach - 21 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) well, I had one but my labour and delivery was completely different to the plan! lol. I would say its a good idea to have one, but use it as a guide and dont get upset if you cant stick to it. I used the following website: http://www.hippbabyclub.co.uk/dhs_birthplan.php , there are lots of different ones online if you search via google. Good luck!

mama2be12.24.09 - 21 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i had the same question as a first time mom. i googled birth plan and found a couple websites where all you do is check off what sounds good to you and fill in the blanks. made it soooo easy. i used birthplan.com good luck!

jamiespaulding - 21 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I spent a long time making mine and to be honest I dont think I even took it out of my bag...I more so just told the nurses what I wanted and did not want and made sure my husband knew to speak up if he felt there was something going on I didnt want. Everything ended up fine. I would at least make a plan with your partner and try to stick to it but an actual paper birth plan probally wont be needed.

nutnut - 21 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i dont have a birth plan. i really didnt with my daughter bc everything got thrown out the window when my labor stalled and i had to be induced. i just kind of went with how things were going. my birth plan for this one is for it to be quick and painless LOL> not sure if ill get that though =D. seriously i have an idea of what i would like to happen, but i know better and babies are just too unpredictable. i dont want to disappoint myself if i cant follow a plan. i dont want to be induced, or have any drugs or medication, but that may not be an option when it comes time to deliver. so rather than worry about it, im just going to go with whatever happens, with an outline of what i would like. =)

juels101 - 21 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Since this is my third It's a lot more generalized and smaller than with my first, but it's a great thing to have. Depending on your hospital I would make sure they know weather or not you want an epesiotomy as some places have it as routine. If you want to exclusivly breastfeed it's good for them to know so they don't give your baby formula without your consent. If you already know you want to use the bath, or the birthing ball etc, they can be prepared to give you those things and support you in any positions you want to use. That's about all I can think of atm.

3rd - 21 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Yeah, have a birth plan, but be open to change... my birth plan went out of the window as I had a 1 hour 10 minute labour from the onset of the first contraction to the birth.. but they respected my wishes AFTER the birth, which was time alone, baby to have skin-to-skin contact, and to not be taken away to be washed and dressed and weighed and checked until after he'd breastfed and fallen asleep or come off himself - unless of course it was medically necessary to take him... :] So it is worth it... but again I say, be open to change as things can change unexpectedly..

xXxEXPLOxXx - 21 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I've got a birth plan, but it basically goes with the flow. It's nice to get the birth you want, but sometimes it stops being about you and becomes "what's best for the baby", so I'd say "try to be flexible in your demands". I've written a draft on my profile if you want to read it. I jotted a few questions beside some of my "wishes", so I can talk it over with my midwife at my next apppointment. See what she says!! :-D
