Need Help, Please!! Added: 830 days ago. Added by: TaraR Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
My daughter still has a pacifier and she is 2 1/2 years. I know I should have taken it away earlier. But long story short, she was almost broke when she developed blisters all over her body-her body felt like leather. Anyways she had to be in the hospital for 3 days. For comfort I gave it back to her. Now she has to know exactly where it is or she gets upset. She doesn`t suck on it she just holds it in her mouth. We`ve tried cutting the nipples off and saying the dog ate but nothings working. I would love any advice anyone has. Please help me. Thanks in advance. :)

Thank you all for your input. Hopefully something will work. To Clackkit she mostly has it at night. During the day she really doesn't have it. It has to be where she can see it though. Like on the counter or by the TV. Again, you guys have been great help. Thanks!!

I had my son throw his away. I didn't hide it so he could find it or anything. We had a couple of rough nights, but when it was gone it was gone. I know that might sound cold hearted, but he is doing just fine and doesn't even mess with the baby's pacifier. Good luck.

hey! ive just weened my 2 n half year old off the dummy using the 'dummy fairy' gymic, what you do is talk to your daughter daily about how shes a big girl now, and the dummy fairy will be comming to get her dummy soon to give to another baby, and as a reward the dummy fairy will also give her a SPECIAL GIFT, it takes about 2 weeks of talking to her about this, and getting her to understand the concept, adventualy i waited till my wee one was asleep, took the dummy, and left a wrapped gift from the DUMMY FAIRY, when she woke she was so excited, she did get a bit upset when it was bed time again and wanted her dummy, but i reminded her the dummy fairy had it and she now had a special toy, after 2 days, i havent heard the dummy mentioned again, lol good luck :-)

Why don't you try getting her to leave it out for santa to take at christmas and he can leave lots of present in place of it. xx

My dds 22 months and I have the same problem, she wants it all the time when I can I take it and hide it and she forgets about it for awhile but then she asks for it again. I wanted to wait til she understand santa or easter bunny so she could give all her dummys to one of them but I don't wanna wait that long.

A friend of mine waited until her daughter was old enough to understand that she was a big girl and didnt need it anymore and she has never asked for it since. I believe that she was about 3 so not long to wait.
Does she just have it for sleep or all through the day. The only time it becomes a problem is if its in the day because affecting her speech but if its just for bed for comfort maybe allow her for a little longer

I saw on Supernanny once that a little boy had that same problem. The family took the paci with the boys help and put it in an envelope and addressed it to the Paci-Fairy. Then had him put it in the mailbox. The next morning they had him check the mailbox and they had replaced that envelope with a new one from the Paci Fairy (kinda like the tooth fairy). They put confetti and all sorts of fun stuff in the mailbox and then left him a special gift, such as the person above me said, a baby doll, blankie, or special gift. It worked for him too!

why dont you taker her to the store and have her pick out something she really wants (a baby doll, a blanket, something random she just wnats for some strange reason) and then tell her you will buy it for her but she has to throw away her pacifier and that new object will be her big girl comfort object.
