Wondering if anyone has gotten the shot who is NOT pregnant? I have a 6 week old, and I am going back to work next week, I am a hairstylist, therefore I am close to ppl all day, wondering if I should get it to protect my baby? Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated... thanks!

jamiespaulding - 821 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I got my H1N1 shot 2 weeks ago. My daughter is 3 months and because she is unable to get it both my husband and I made sure to get it as we also both work with the public. I figured they has been giving the shot for almost a month now and I have yet to hear of any reports of things going wrong. I also was sure to get the shot info like the lot number just in case something went funny but we both feel fine!!! Good luck!

I would ask your salon if you can post a small sign on your mirror that says NO FLU PLEASE....If your clients are warm to touch, appear sick or are coughing...I would simply say, I am sorry, but I cannot cut your hair. I wouldn't care about the business lost either, as taking 1 or 2 weeks off to recup from HI2N would cost more! Notice I said RECUP.....H1N1 has a less than 1% mortality rate......very very very few die from it....but due to the media representation we will hear about EACH and EVERY one that does. Neither me nor my 8mos old or husband will be getting H1N1 vaccination. I will take that less than 1% risk that if I DO get it I won't die.....the vaccine makers aren't exactly offering the same odds on an UNTESTED vaccine.

lovinmyryatt - 827 days ago thanks everyone, you really eased my mind, i am getting the vaccine thursday!

blondie9504 - 827 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My SO and I both got the nasal mist this past Friday because our daughter is only 14 weeks old. We didn't have any side affects, I think it's a good idea to get it. We both also got our flu shots back in September too :)

With so much exposure to people out of the home, anything you can do to protect a baby is a plus. If possible, consider breastfeeding or pumping for some of the feedings b/c you can produce antibodies to that virus and others and feed them right to your baby while he/she is so young and vulnerable. Aside from the baby's vulnerability, I wonder how I'd take care of my baby when if I'm too sick to take care of myself.

geobaby - 827 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I have known 2 families that have had H1N1 both with kids. All got it and all we miserable (before shot was available). They all say that if they could have prevented their kids from experiencing that they would have. They were miserable, curled up in the fetal position on the floor with 104 fever would not be fun. The kids range in age from 2-7 and could talk as say what they needed or was wrong I couldn't imagine what it would be like for a 6 week old. I would get the shot.

babyblue1 - 827 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I'm sure that if you've been reading on here lately you'll see that there are MANY opinions regarding the vaccine LOL! But it seems to me that there is no real consensus. Some people don't like the fact that there hasn't been a lot of testing on this vaccine, and have issue with the thermisol (mercury-based preservative--very low and also not link by any GOOD scientific studies to Autism as some people believe) and adjuvant ingredients (a 'booster' in the vaccine that hasn't been used in north america but HAS been used in the Europe for many years. As of right now, studies show that this does NOT have harmful effects--despite theories that some people have raised). The vac is made just like any other flu shot, except it is made for a new viral strain (h1n1). So pretty much if you are okay with the idea of the regular flu shot, this one shouldn't be any different. Personnally, i feel like the risks associated with the shot are low, especially for me. My dd is 5mths old and I feel like it may offer some protection for her. So i'm booked to get it tommorrow!

cuddlebunnymeg - 827 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I am not pregnant and am getting the h1n1 shot tomorrow morning. My daughter is 2 months old tomorrow. I think it is helpful for them. Someone said on the 0 months page a person's 2 1/2 month old baby died because they got the virus.

lucijas77 - 827 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i got the regular flu shot month ago and last week me and dd were so sick anyway, i am not getting it
