Stay@HomeZOOkeepa - 826 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Oh sorry my son is just about 18 months and just started copying everthing, but even last month it was just mommy, dada, Iby(Ivy his sis), sissy, puppy, nummy, nana, pup (cup) and lots of screaming because no one could understand him but me.

Stay@HomeZOOkeepa - 826 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) There is a reason the doc said by 18 months...babies develope so much in the 12-18 month range. One day it will happen, I'm sure he is perfectly fine.

RobinG - 826 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I somewhat disagree with 3rd. My son has language delay (he is autistic too) and knowing and understanding words is def not the same as using words in communication/language. There are many kids in his play group that only have speech delay and qualify for services. They were able to understand, point and respond. Being able to do those things doesnt mean there isnt a speech delay present. If your child was non verbal meaning no words at all I would def be concerned but since your LO can say a few words my guess is he is fine. If he hasnt increased in words by 18 months I would be more concerned. But that all said the only person over all us here who can say your child is fine or not fine is a speech therapist who does an eval. You call early intervention and they will come and evaluate him and let you know :) When they begin talking they will say various words may add some may drop some as they explore more language. This is normal in the beginning. Books/docs may say 50 is the min but at 18 months I dont really agree with that figure. I'd say more like a 20-30 or so various words throughout the day now is a good indication that language will be fine. Seeing you have 3 months to go ALOT can change over the next 3 months :) Just keep talking to him, encouraging him to repeat what you say and such and it should come. If it doesnt then def call early intervention for an eval. They an do amazing things in helping :) My son is proof! Huntes speech therapist comes today at 11 ~ I'll ask her what she thinks :)

heidismummy - 826 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i agree with 3rd. my daughter is almost 16 months old and she says just a few words. most of the time she garbles to herself and points and laughs. she talks in her sleep aswell! when i ask her to do something or go somewhere she does it, so im not worried about the fact she isnt saying a lot of proper words yet, as she seems to understand everything i ask of her. i think doctors sometimes make you over worry when you dont need to. if he responds well to your voice and listens to you then i would not worry about the number of words he isnt saying.

3rd - 826 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) The main thing is, is does your son understand when you ask him simple questions and say short phrases? Can he point to a colour or an object or something on your face if and when you ask him? If he's showing an UNDERSTANDING for words and can respond ina co-operative way to age appropriate things you ask him, then the words WILL follow in the future. My son was not a talker until 24 months of age, but once he started he's never shut up since - and he's nearly 7 years old! So yeah, I deffo wouldn't worry unless your child can't understand or respond to what you say or ask of him (age appropriate of course) :] Hope this has helped..

two2love - 827 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) lily is 15 mths and she is slowly learning more words i was worried but now she is popping out new words every day. ur little one will get there!

lillynlexismomma - 827 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Dont stress Renee, Lilly is getting more vocal lately and she is 16 months old. She says Blankie, Baa, Grr (for Tigger) Mommy, Matt, Paa (for papa) Josh, Daddy, No, Bath, Quack Quack (Her Pink Duck Bathtub that quacks) Phoebe (Our Cat) Num Num, Me Eat, just a random amount of words, some I cant recall off the top of my tongue, but she is learning new ones lately, it will come in time. It took her a while, but I think she is doing pretty good for a 28 wks preemie. Riley will get there!
