She said when my body started going through the withdrawls it would stress baby as well. She challenged me to cut back my one a day until they were completely eliminated. That worked for me until they were born. As soon as they were born my entire family was there (all of which smoke) and so as you can imagine it didn't take long to pick the habit back up! Then one of my babies was put in the hospital for labored breathing! As soon as the doctor came in he smelled the smoke on me. That was the cause of my baby being in the hospital. There was no way I was going to allow my habit to harm my kids. So right then I vowed to quit and I did!

lb71 - 818 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I smoked 13 years, and I quit. It's not fun, it's not easy, but as a parent it's the right thing to do, and if you don't do it now, then you are greatly increasing the odds that your own child is going to be just as much of an addict later on as you are. I smoked because mY Dad smoked around me as a kid. Being a parent means setting a responsible example for your child. Instead of smoking, set up an automatic transfer on your bank acct to put the $$ you previously spent on cigarettes into a college fund for your child. Pack a day comes to about $35 a week - enough money over 18 years to get your child a great education. THAT is something you can be proud of. And the bonus is, you get to break free of an addiction. Once you've done it, you won't believe that you took so long to make the choice.

Suaf - 818 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Please dont smoke i know everybody have their say but just think for youself if your baby is born are you gonna put a sigarette in it mouth, i doubt it.I am also a smoker and its extremely hard to just stop but i made that decision because i longed for this baby far to long to let anything happend to it

kaylabranscum - 818 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i think its really irresponsible to smoke while you are prgnant, so many things could happen, a friend of mine smoke through both, and both were 6 weeks early. Another girl i know smoke through her pregnancy, and her son has been in the hospital on and off since he was born a year ago. has had phenmonia, bronchitis, respitory infections... and other illness. to each their own, i just think that when you are pregnant its all about baby, why do somehting thats bad for you to begin with and put it into your childs system? would smoke and blow it into your childs face? because you are.

nutnut - 818 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I quit when i found out i was pregnant with my daughter (now 7yrs old)it wasnt hard since the smell of cigerettes made me vomit. im 36, ive been smoking since 16yrs old. i smoked marlboro reds 1pk a day then eventually 2 packs a day, then i went to camel light a pack a day. anyhow. i went back to smoking after i had my daughter. she has allergies. while i didnt smoke while i was pregnant i still had the baby around it in some small way even if i didnt realize at the time. the smell gets in your skin, your hair, your clothes. i dont know if her allergies are from my smoking or not. but since ive quit again since being pregnant with number 2, her allergies have been significantly less. conincidence? maybe, maybe not. when i got pregnant this time around it was much harder for me to quit bc i craved them. i still crave them. what makes me not pick them back up is the fact my daughters allergies are better, she breathes better, and i have read about the placenta coming out slimy and smelly if you smoke while pregnant. it freaked me out. also, we lost family memebers and there isnt anyone other than me to be there for my children. if something happens to me, they will be alone. so i need to do whatever i can to make sure im here for as long as possible for my kids. while its no guarentee i wont die tomorrow from something not related to smoking, why increase my odds of dying from something smoking related? i dont judge women who smoke while pregnant. i just make the effort myself not to. there isnt a day that goes by when i dont think about buying a pack of camels. i get really annoyed when someone lights up a cigertte in public and stands right next to me and my daughter. they can obviously see im pregnant and i have a child here. they can at least be somewhat curtious and move to the other side. even when i smoked i was curtious to people around me. anyhow. if you want to quit, what worked the best for me was identifying triggers (situations that make me grab a smoke) and eliminating them or changing them from my everyday life. smoking isnt good for anyone, it most definatly isnt good for children. its not even good for your household pets. anyone in the house is affected by it, even if it isnt obvious until years later.

Firsttimemum78 - 818 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Good for you Third. Although my mother smoked up until I left home at 18 I have never smoked myself because of my asthma, eczema and other allergies I have had since I was about 10 years old. My husband was also brought up around smoking parents and we are both very anti smoking. We are even going to pay out and stay in a hotel when visiting my husbands parents when baby finally turns up because they both smoke in the house. Why is it fair to put children through having to passive smoke for your own addiction?

Third - 818 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I smoked throughout my first two pregnancies. Both boys were healthy weights and SO FAR have no breathing issues - one 7 year old and a 7 month old. I'm pregnant with number 3 and happy to say I have been quit for 6 1/2 weeks now. Both my boys were on time BUT I was shown the placenta after each birth and there were big grey patches on it, tainted patches and it was directly caused by smoking. Now, the placenta is as important to that baby to survive as oxygen is to us - it's how they breathe. So smoking DOES catergorically cause damage during pregnancy. I'm not judging you as a smoker as I smoked, but I am going against what the previous smokers have posted, there is ALWAYS a negative to smoking, there are NEVER ANY benefits to continuing smoking. Also, damage doesn't plateau, the damage gets worse and worse and worse - you can't even smoke and not suffer damage, smoking is POISONOUS, so how can you say 100% that everything turned out peachy becuase you had a heavy, full term baby with no obvious signs of effect? Studies have shown that children are many times more likely to smoke as adults if their mother smoked with them in the womb - the nicotine addiction is already present and they get hooked MUCH more easily.. THAT IN ITSELF is sentencing your child to many years of respiritory damage, albeit indirectly.. I quit in the hopes of setting an example to my children.

Firsttimemum78 - 818 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My mum smoked all the way through my pregnancy and while I was a child. I was a pre-term baby (4 weeks early) and was a sickly child. I have also had asthma and allergies since a young age. My doctor puts a lot of things down to the fact that my mother smoked throughout my pregnancy and around me as a child. I know you smokers dont think of it as a problem, but its a choice you have made. Your child does not have the choice to smoke or not if they are exposed as a child. Sorry for the rant, but I have suffered because of my mothers actions when I was young. I am struggling even more now with my asthma and have to take regular medication.

lgk616 - 818 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) There may not be immediate signs of problems with your little ones but in the future they could develop. Asthma, allergies, etc. After all we know about smoking and what it does to you, and we are adults, why subject a baby to it?

lilysmomma - 818 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I smoked all throughout my pregnancy and Lilian is as healthy as a horse! ACTUALLY my OB/GYN told me not to quit completely but to cut what I smoked normally in half so for instance i normally smoked about 12 smokes a day, I cut it down to 6. Honestly I wouldnt worry about it to much. Quitting is very hard. Obviously smoking is bad for everyone, I would just cut back xo

blondie9504 - 819 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I smoked through my whole pregnancy (ultra lights) but I only smoked like maybe 5 a day :( I wish I wouldn't have smoked at all but it's over now. My little girl is a healthy chunky monkey :)

brendalee - 819 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) WELL. I'm gonna get so many hate PMs but it's the truth. I know TONS of moms that smoked throughout their entire pregnancy, one smoked a pack a day up to literally the day they gave birth, and their babies we're all fine. I think doctors say because something is unhealthy for one person, that its sooooo much more unhealthier for a pregnant woman and her baby.
