My actual due date is Dec. 26th my doctor has scheduled me for induction Dec 17th because he will be out of town until after the new year. As much as I would love to have my baby early I wonder if even that is pushing it and I should wait it out. My whole family is renting hotel rooms for the 17th and I know it shouldn`t be about them..but is 38 weeks too early??

mi.familia - 814 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) most docs will NOT induce before 39 unless its for medical reasons...is sounds selfish for you doc to do that...but what is important, is that you are okay with having your lil one that early. if you are not okay with that, ask you doc to have one the other docs be there for you around the time you are due.

BabySaunders - 815 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Your baby's health will probably not be in jeopardy, but your doctor is a jerk. Just because he's going to be out of town does NOT mean that you should have your baby before your baby is ready. I'm not sure what your birthing plan is, but induced labor is usually a lot more painful and most mothers prefer an epidural with induction (my plan is to go all natural). Also the rate of c-section with induction is about 50%. Not sure how you feel about a c-section. I would tell your doctor no. Another doctor can deliver you just as easily. In my doctor's office there are about 7 doctors and they told me that it's highly unlikely that my doctor will deliver me. If that's the case then why even bother? Especially if your induction is taking too long he'll be more likely to just say "Baby is in distress. Let's do a c-section" Good luck sweetie. But if it DOES have to happen just know that your baby will be fine. 38 weeks is not too early.

sunshinedaydream - 815 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I heard so many stories of doctors inducing labor because they want to go on vacation! I don't like it at all.

mdbabyno1 - 815 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I say trust your doctor. My daughter was born at 38 weeks and was 7lbs and completely healthy. Full term is 37 weeks and any time between 38-42 weeks is when you can expect the baby anyway.

lb71 - 815 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I haven't delivered yet but I've read an awful lot on this site & elsewhere about baby coming when it's ready, and inducing too early increasing the odds of a c-section, so it would make me nervous to schedule an induction that early without knowing for sure that my baby was ready to come at that time. So yes, baby's development is one consideration, but your health is another and equally important one. Plenty of babies do come that early so there's a chance yours will be ready... but plenty of babies come after the due date, too, and yours could be one of the ones that needs those extra weeks. I personally would want to hold off on scheduling it until I knew I'd started to dilate. I have a family member coming the day before I am due and leaving the next day, so I've told him that I will consider induction the day before, but only if the baby is ready. Otherwise, unfortunately, he won't get to meet the baby until Xmas 2010, but he doesn't want (and DH & I don't want) me to risk surgery just for his sake.

hebelboy2 - 815 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I was induced for medical reasons at 36 weeks. It totally freaked me out, but he came out completely healthy and ready for the world, even if he was a little small. You and yours will be fine!!!

juliegirly26 - 815 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My son was born at 37 weeks and was a very healthy 7lb. 3oz. baby...it is probably better to go the route of induction so you will already be adjusting to life with baby by the time the christmas rush is on! good luck

RobinG - 815 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Thing is your body needs to be showing signs of progression for the induction to be successful. If you arent there is a good chance it will lead to a failed induction and a C section. I personally dont agree with inductions for convenience. If by chance around the 22nd 23rd he saw you were progressing and dialating and opted to so you'd be home on the 25th yes but not the 17th. 38 isnt to early but you dont want to risk a section either if you arent showing any signs your body will be ready to be induce. You should be at least 1cm for best results and when I was induced it was a Wed and I didnt deliver til Friday so it doesnt always happen fast. ((hugs and good luck))

oskygirl31 - 816 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) No 38 weeks is also considered full term..my son was born at 38 weeks weighed 7lbs 11 1/2 oz. my daughter was born at 37.5weeks.weighed 6lbs 13oz. my nephew was born at 38 weeks weighed 6lbs 6oz...you can go up to 36 weeks and the baby be born healthy...I am going to talk to my doctor about inducing me at 38 weeks as well...so don't worry..your baby will be perfectly fine..and if you doctor thinks it's a good idea..trust him..a doctor won't do anything to put a baby at risk..if you want google it..babies born at 38 weeks gestation...good luck..at least you now have a date to look forward to...take care.
