My aby is 2 months and 1 week old. I noticed that more often than not, that when I place a rattle in front of him, he does not look at it or show any interest. He will remain fixated at something else. Sometimes he does folow things but not often. The doc tested him and made him folow keys and he did but b/c of what i said she said to keep track and make sure he`s tracking objects and paying attention to them more and more the next few weeks. Does anyone else have a aby who does similar things? Should I be concernec? I even tried placing the rattle close up and directly in front of his face and he wasn`t looking at it. I`m worried he has visual problems or autism..help!

One thing I learned about having a newborn is that in sleep deprivation, short periods of time seem really long, so we do want things to get better in a hurry. Still, I hear your concern. In fact, my almost-8 y.o. was diagnosed this fall with a visual convergence disorder that is directly tied to concerns I brought up at her 9*month* visit. I hadn't thought of it again since the doc said not to worry about it, and then we wondered why she avoided reading and writing! So, here's an article about visual development (link). If you wish to see a pediatric opthalmologist, you may have to travel a bit for the expertise. http://www.alliedvisionservices.com/eyeLibraryDocument.asp?PageID=141292
