Hello Everyone, this is my first time in a chat about being pregnant. I just found out that I am 5 weeks pregnant and I am so nervous and scared. I have many concerns and questions. First, I know that I am only 5 weeks but I have been feeling quite icky. It comes and goes. I took a pepto tablet the other day, I`m not sure if that is healthy or not. Next, I want to breastfeed but not sure if I can. The whole nine months being pregnant is really scary. I am 27 and I just don`t see how women do it. I am going to need a lot of support. Erica

It was very hard for me to feel excited when I did not physically feel well. I remember walking into the babies room and feeling very sick to my stomach and walking back out. I did not want to be pregnant anymore. I felt guilty for feeling that way because I knew some women would die to be pregnant and here I was having these horrible feelings. I feel much better now, so now I am getting excited. I still am scared, but I try not to read to much about what others have gone through, because I don't want to feed my brain anything negative. I take it day by day and if I have a problem then I look it up and get advise. Right now I am scared because I have not felt the baby move hardly, and some of my friends act shocked that I don't feel the baby that much. So, now I am freaking out about that! I try not to let those things get to me and trust that everything will be okay and not everyone is the same. Take it day by day. If you have any questions the best advise I can give is to talk to your Dr. Especially if you are having anxiety. Also, talk to your Dr. about getting a list of meds that are safe to take while you are pregnant. Pepto is NOT one of the safe meds. Also if you are getting sick there are prescription meds that will help with that. Talk to you Dr. Also there are breastfeeding classes that you can take to answere any questions you have about it. I will be taking one in May. Good luck sweetie, everything will be okay, just take it day by day.

But it all depends on how the mother feels about it. Some do it and stick to it. Some start it and then decide to formula feed. Sometimes it depends on the baby too. My son was breastfeed for like 2 weeks. Then he showed no interest in it and went to bottlefed. He likes to look around while he's eating. Being nervous and scared is part of the pregnancy too. Especially your first.

firsttimer - 743 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Hi Erica, congratulations on your pregnancy! And congratulations on finding this site, it's one of the best things you can do. The support is fantastic and helps to keep you sane over the next 8 months. Can I say one thing? Please don't take anything medicine wise without first checking with your doctor. Sickness is a wonderful sign in early pregnancy, it shows your hormones are rising and is exactly how you want to feel. But I've been there and understand how horrible it is. The tiredness will get you next! So the other thing, I have found that getting used to being pregnant is a journey. Some of the things that you think will happen to you won't, and other things you weren't worried about will happen. But they will not all happen at once. You get time to get used to the changes before something else comes along. I never liked the idea of a baby moving inside me. Well the first time it happened it was like a wee tapping feeling, and then it never changed for another few weeks when it became more like a movement, to now when I'm 38 weeks and the baby feels like it's rearranging my insides! But this has taken at least 20 weeks to reach that point. So please don't worry, you will have time to adjust and get used to everything. And remember anxiety is normal, and so are the days when you wonder what on earth you were thinking getting pregnant! Look after yourself xx

epster - 744 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Here is a great web site I found for nursing mothers. I nursed my other 2 children and plan on nursing this baby as well, but wished I would have nursed my son longer I only nursed him for 3 months. This web site would have helped me continue to nurse him, and get off on a better start. http://www.breastfeedingonline.com/newman.shtml As for morning sickeness I use the sea bands, ginger ale, sprite, dumb dumb suckers, eating every 2 hours a carb & protien (cracker & some nuts). My doctor started me on Unisom and vitamin B6, but I didn't like the side affects (it's a sleep aid, and it touches the placenta) now my doctor has me on Zofran (which does not touch the placenta) and that is really helping me a lot. If it gets really bad you could talk to your doctor about that. You can take TUMS for a upset tummy!

T3POandR2D2 - 744 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Oops! Holly28 is totally right! Disregard my statement about pepto being safe. It's a class C drug!

Holly28 - 744 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) First of all congratulations!!! I know how scary and exiting this is. Second of all, sorry to tell you this but, it's normal to feel icky hun. Soda crackers, pretty much anything ginger (I LIVED on candied ginger) and SeaBand-those braclets you wear for motion sickness(you can by these at Walmart) all really help. Just so you know, I was told NOT to take Pepto Bismol numerous web sources I found when I was pregnant stated this and it was confirmed by my Dr. As for the breastfeeding and such, I wouldn't stress out about it too much this early on. Welcome to the site. It's a wonderful place for support and friendship. Again, congrats.

Princessmamma - 744 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Congrats!!!!!! I remeber when I was 5 weeks I didnt think I was going to every get to 9 months I was so sick but I am not 29 weeks and feeling much much better! The time will go so fast! Try and enjoy all of it. I want to breastfeed as well after I have been doing lots of reading the internet is great! Hope you have a healthy and happy pregnancy

T3POandR2D2 - 744 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Don't be afraid! It's completely normal to be anxious about everything. Morning sickness came and went with me until about 13 weeks. Pepto is ok to take. As for breastfeeding, you won't know if you can until you try. I suggest reading up on it as much as possible. Only a small portion of women have issues breastfeeding. Also, just think of the 9 months in this way - you have 40 weeks to get used to having a baby before they get here!
