A coworker of mine had her baby and it has to stay in the NICU for 7 days. How much money is the average stay in the NICU? We are trying to decide how we can help her at work. Thanks

RobinG - 1802 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My son was in hospital after brain surgery. He was in for 6 days. The cost for his stay alone was 45000. Thank God insurance paid most of it!

charlihadleypreggo3 - 1802 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) does she have medicaid?? does she have insurance?? does she have son was born a year ago today!! He aspirated due to the cord being so tight around his neck...our 7 days in the NICU was just over $58,000 including ambulance transfer...we have insurance, thank goodness!! we paid out of pocket a little over $4,000 just to that hospital. having someone, like my mom, watch our other son, so that I could be at the hospital, was the biggest help ever...people letting me know they care & were praying for us, was also a great gift!!

Right now the Mom could probably use some attention. A new pair of pajamas, something special she'd be doing without right now while she's fretting over her newborn's well being.

If it looks like things could be touch and go and she'll need more than the typical amount of maternity leave, see if your company has an employee support program. Where I used to work, employees could donate their vacation days to a co-worker who was having a family crisis, so that if they needed to use up more than they had, they wouldn't lose their income.

begoodcervix - 1802 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) OHHH gather money to help pay there RENT or House payment. Thats what my work did for me and it was so helpful! Payed my rent for three months and it was a huge relief! I never felt like eating much but thats a great idea too. I was a sever at the time so getting the money to pay rent was a life saver! It enabled me to work less shifts so i could be at the hospital:)

jdistel - 1802 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My first born was in the NICU for 6 weeks and 2 days. The main NICU bill was $125,000 and then misc bills kept rolling in from the specific doctors in the unit and testing. I agree with the others; helping with meals or cleaning would probably be a big help.

dezire - 1802 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) my sons stay at the nicu for 7 days was well over 50,000 dollors..depends on whats wrong with the baby..and how much time they have to spend and much more

girl from ab - 1802 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I'm also from Canada and have no idea how much NICU stays in the states are... I think anyway you can help your co-worker will help and be greatly appreciated wether it be a donation or like Jen said helping with meals etc :) I think you are doing a wonderful thing for her :)

candycane123 - 1802 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Yes, wow Im from Canada and that is VERY expensive!!! what if you can not afford to pay that much money?! I would say help with diapers and anything else that they may need.

julz - 1802 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) it all depends on what the baby needs, my son's NICU cost was over $40,000. Luckily my insurance covered most of it, but we were still stuck with over $4000 over of pocket. I think it's great that you guys are helping her out, I like jen's idea of also making meals, they are going to be spending all of their time at the hospital and any free time trying to get some sleep, I think making meals is such a great idea!!

babybrookes - 1802 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) yeh i agree hun i think the best thing for you to do is to help in every other way like jen said below maybe towards food costs, clothing or gifts for the baby aswell sounds very expensive though im in the uk so i dont know the costs but thats really expensive xxxxx hope your friends baby gets better soon xxx

jen - 1802 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Also, along with monetary donations, maybe setting up a "food" schedule for her. Have people take turns making dinners for her family, I know this helped emmensely with my sister.

jen - 1802 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) It all depends on what all the baby is needing done. My sisters baby was in the NICU for about 8 weeks. I believe the average cost is roughly $1,000 to $2,000 a day.

tifftubb - 1802 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My son stayed in the NICU 9 days and his bill was around $14,500. With my husband's insurance, we only paid $1000. The Physician fees was another $900 after insurnace paid their part.
