So ladies...my parents planned a trip to the zoo and they want to go either this weekend or next depending on the weather. Well my mom is convinced that I will not be able to walk around the zoo all day so she wants to take a wheel chair for me...I told her I don`t want that! I don`t know what to do...I mean it is difficult for me to walk a lot in the heat especially but I feel stupid using a wheel chair just because I am pregnant...it`s not like pregnancy is a handicap that requires a wheel chair! I just don`t know what to do or what to tell her....I know it is probably just because they don`t want to be slowed down by me having to sit every 1/2 hour...but if I need to sit down I can find a bench and they can go on without me...I will catch up at some point! Would you ladies feel stupid doing this too?? Or have you ever used or seen some1 use a wheel chair when they were big and pregnant?!?

I have had a lot of back pain and pelvic girdle pain this pregnancy, and whilst my physio has told me not to try to actively run or do anything too strenuous, carrying on as normally as possible was advised as she says that after the pregnancy if you do very little activity you are more likely to have very lax abdominal and pelvic floor muscles. I thnk you're right, we're not disabled and don't need to be treated like you are! If you're not comfortable using it, then just say you'd prefer to take regular breaks.....carry a picnic blanket in your bag so if you need to sit and there are no benches you have something you can sit down on. Whatever you decide I hope you have a lovely trip x

erin1023 - 1230 days ago Thanks for all the input...I went on a little maternity shopping spree with the DH at the mall today and walked around for almost 2 hours ...I did decent but my ankles are killing me now and SOO swollen!! If 2 hours at the mall does that...I am worried to see what 4-5 hours at the zoo might do!! I think I may tell my mother to go ahead and bring it just in case I decide I can't do it!

miraclebaby24 - 1230 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) With my last pregnancy, I had terrible pain in my back. My uterus was pushing up against my sciatic nerve. I am a teacher so I stand all day on tile flooring so needless to say, my back was killing me by the end of the day. My friends wanted to go to SAMS warehouse but I KNEW I wouldn't make it through the store by myself. My friend mentioned that her sister used an electric wheelchair just so she wouldn't be stuck and home because it was painful for her to walk. She convinced me to try it and it was GREAT. At first, I was a little embarrassed but after a while I was a pro. I would rather be productive and involved than nonproductive or productive and in pain.

barunka05 - 1230 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I don't know i walked with my kids every day several miles till i was about 35 weeks than i was getting a little bit too tired. Walking is very good for you while pregnant. It all depends if you are use to walking or not. If you are not don't hesitate to use it. You don't want to overdo it and than be sick later.

jacksmummy10 - 1230 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i think that is such good idea, your parents very smart and caring, you don't have to use it whole time maybe you can walk and when you are tired you could use it. I have seen many pregnant women to use them when they are shoping or sightseing. I think i would use it.

luvin colton - 1231 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) oh my goodness that would be so embarrassing, im not in great shape but walked miles every day up until i had the little guy, tell her thats a nice gesture and you appreciate it, but with water you'll be fine

jancfromsf - 1231 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Its actually really good to walk when you are pregnant. With my first pregnancy I walked around the SF Zoo several times at 35 and 37 weeks. Just take a break when you need to, and if you start developing pain then get the wheel chair.

erin1023 - 1231 days ago Thanks for the responses...plantlvr--I live in Ohio so it will be the Cleveland Zoo which is a decent size and has 2 pretty decent size hills to walk up! They do have little shuttles for transportation up the hills but you often have to stand in line to ride and it can take a while to catch it so I don't know that my family will want to stand in line for it each time! I am sure she will bring the chair despite what I tell her...just the way she is lol...so I guess I can just let her bring it and see if I feel like I need it...at least it is there! I suppose it would be better than getting over-tired or feeling bad for slowing every1 down.

plantlvr07 - 1231 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Honey, I work at a zoo and it is PERFECTLY acceptable to use the wheelchair! I don't know how big your zoo is, but mine is one of the largest in the US and it's hard for a non pregnant person to make it all the way around. I've seen plenty of pregnant women in wheelchairs and electric ones too. I've actually had to call park rangers to come pick up pregnant women with the golf cart before because they got halfway through the park and couldn't make it back. Better safe than sorry! You don't need to get too exhausted. Please don't feel silly. Pregnancy may not be a handicap but it is a serious physical condition.

jamie86 - 1231 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I had horrible hip pain with my son so the last month of my pregnancy I couldn't walk very far and if I went to the store I would have to use a wheel chair. I didn't like it and felt stupid but I've seen several pregnant women use them.
