My 3 month old son suffers from terrible gas and tummy aches. A friend suggested I try soy formula for him because it is so easily digestible, however I just reading that soy could feminize him??? Has anybody heard of this and is it true? I am terrified to give it to him now but am also desperate to help him feel better. I have tried all the other formulas on the shelf to no avail with the exception of thd elementals which I can not really afford. Please advise asap. Thanks.

If the tummy aches and gas is minimal try gripe water or gas drops and see if it helps. Mylicon works wonders and you can give it to them pretty often. We found the gentle ease formula worked just as well as any but every baby is different

wyomingmomof3 - 591 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) have you thought about a lactose free formula? i have never heard that about soy, but what my pedi told me is that the majority of people who have a lactose or dairy senesitivity also have a problem with soy causing a lot gas and such- take it from me all 3 of my kids are either lactose intolerant or allergic to dairy.

farramh - 591 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) If I was you and your son was having these iussue I would put him on a really good organic formula like Holle that has doesn't have side effects and is very smooth and digestible. You are best to buy it on line as it will be cheaper and easier to get hold of. It's worth the effert however painful that you can't run to the local shop. My son eldest son was put on soy when he was a baby and no I havn't heard that rubbish said about it before. Saying that I didn't like it and they don't recommend it here anymore. You would be impressed with the Holle and the best I've ever used. Good luck.

It's quite a bit more expensive than regular formula and hard to justify, but in the big picture it cost me an extra $5.00 per day to feed my baby and have a happy baby, it was worth it to me.

My friend had that problem with her first baby and switched her to formula and now that she'l older she's back to regular dairy. If you're still worried about it talk to the pediatrician - I'm sure they can put your mind at east.

Happy19 (Blue) - 591 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) People make that connection because of the naturally occuring strain of estrogen in soy (which is actually an anti-carcinogen and quite good for people) Estrogen is also a naturally occuring hormone in men, as well as women, and while some medical conditions can cause these levels to rise above normal, I doubt any amount of soy would be able to do that (especially since its a natural hormone, not synthesized, and therefore his body will respond to it differently than to something like an actual estrogen pill) As for whether or not it feminizes men, I think there are a lot more potent, synthesized hormones which occur in everyday tap water that are much more likely to do that(not to scare you away from tap water lol) And plus, many cultures around the world have consumed soy products for thousands of years and their men are still just as virile and masculine as anywhere else in the world lol. So I wouldn't take it too seriously, its one of those rumours people came up with based more on lack of information than actual science.

firsttimemommy2011 - 591 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) try lactose free formula thats what I have my son on its not soy but takes the lactose out of the milk. Its great if your son is lactose intollernt. I have not has any problems since.

RobinG - 591 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My older 2 were on soy and they are DEF NOT feminized, lol. They are now 16 and 11. I dont agree with that view of it. I preferred soy over milk based but had to use milk based with my 3rd becuase he had a soy allergy. We actually loved alimentum with our 3rd, very gentle. :) We liked ready made best too.

o0kat0o - 591 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I heard that alot too. We ended up putting our boy on the AR thickened formula. It worked a treat.. have you tried that? Also hmthe de-lact. If he gets an ache hes probly lactose intolerant. But then switching remember you need to ease into it slowly or ther stomach will be worse
