Protein in urine. HELLLLP Added: 553 days ago. Added by: December2011 Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
Just saw the midwife. I wasnt feeling so good, plus i have GD and she said my HBP was a little high and they found protein in my urine. They sent me home with a container to do a 24 hour urine collect. For women who have done this, what are the chances / odds that they`ll find protein again in this 24 hour urine and what will happen??? Anyone experienced this? Anyone who knows please let me know. Thanks.

I started having trace protein in my urine at 19 weeks with my last pregnancy, I did a 24 urine at that point so they could get a baseline of how much protein was being spilled.. My BP and protein kept increasing, so they sent me for bloodwork. By 31 weeks I was admitted for preeclampsia, it was a mild case so they kept me in the hospital for about a week, while there i had to go 24 hr urines every 2 days and had NST's every day 3 times a day. I was given steroid shots while there and was discharged on complete bedrest, I was in & out fo the hospital until 36 weeks, then I was induced. If you continue to have high BP & protein they will run tests and monitor you closely, if your BP & protein get too high they may put you on bedrest and if it continues to go up they may induce you, but they will try to get you as close to full term as they can. Good Luck!! I hope that your BP & protein start to improve.

I had borderline high blood pressure back in July and had to do the 24 hr urine and get some labs done but everything turned out fine.. my last dr appt my blood pressure was high so they had me go to the hospital for an NST and when I got to the hospital and layed on my side my blood pressure was fine.. I don't have any protein in my urine or anything, she thinks I might just have chronic high blood pressure now and not pregnancy induced hypertension or pre-eclampsia. YOu should also be getting blood work done to check everything.. that is what they did with me.. I don't think they would deliver at 32 weeks unless it became very very high and an emergency.. they would probably monitor you more closely and deliver closer to 37 weeks if need be. Good luck hun!!

Showing up protein is quiet common in pregnancies. It happen to me too.
Depending on the level, sometimes the doctor won't do anything, and then they might deliver. Until you get the results though your best to try and not stress about because that won't help BP or you if they do decide to bring you on. So try and put your feet up. Best of luck!

This started for me around 31-32 weeks also, and I was told to just take it easy and drink a ton of water, I was basically told to stay on light bed rest until I was far a long enough along to have a healthy delivery, I ended up being induced at 38 weeks. My Dr. also prescribed me a BP machine so I could monitor my own BP everyday. What is your BP at, just curious.

With me it was so bad I had no 24 hour test.... No c-section either just induced I was 37 weeks and toxemic. They said I could stay pregnant baby would be fine... I however would be in the hospital for several weeks. It is dangerous to MOM's kidneys. If it is bad enough they will induce, or c-section early... I was toxemic by that point. You will not go past 37 weeks and maby not that far unless in the hospital to monitor your vitals.

They wouldn't schedule a C-section at 32 weeks unless it was an emergency. Your blood pressure would have to be extremely high and you and the baby at risk. Even if it is a bit high they are going to monitor the baby and you and try to keep the baby in there as long as possible. They usually aim for 37-39 weeks depending on how things are. I wouldn't worry too much just yet. After the samples are tested that you're collecting you'll find out what's up and what needs to be done. I would just try to relax as hard as it is when you're wondering what is going on. Best of luck!

I had HBP and protein in my urine when I was pregnant with my son. My BP stayed high and protein kept showing up in my 24 urine samples, I had to do about three of them, continuing after I had my son. My Dr. ended up inducing my at 38 weeks. Everything ended up just fine though. Good luck!

But what can happen? Will they have the baby born at 32 weeks?? Or will they schedule a csection at a certain week?

I'm the opposite lol My blood pressure was "perfect" and protein was sometimes in my urine, sometimes not, but coz my blood pressure was so good, they didnt send me for further testing, ever, despite excessive swelling, headaches, spots before the eyes, etc. Then I go into labour and my urines at a +4 and my blood pressure is sky high haha At least your midwife is ontop of it all, and monitoring you closely. :) Just put your feet up, and keep an eye on your symptoms. Good luck. :)

my experience was similar to kathy24- i was found pos. for protein in my urine at37weeks-did a 24 hr collection- and then started contracting that weekend, and was induced the following monday at 38 weeks due to high blood pressure. just stay off your feet to help with swelling, and relax til the dr. tell u whats next...best of luck.

Hi, I know how worrying it can be. Is this your first pregnancy? I tested positive last week so had to go and do a urine test, which came up negative. My midwife told me that the original sample must have been contaminated, yours could have been too. She also told me, as this is my 3rd pregnancy, that it would be unlikely to be testing positive when I have never tested positive before.... good luck!

I just had my baby this past Mon because I kept having protein in my urine. When I had proetin in my urine I did the 24 hour urine test and it came back negative for protein so every 2 weeks I would do a 24 hour urine test and the 2nd one came back with proetin and it kept coming back and my BP kept getting high so I had a c-section at 37 weeks.
