Rapid labor - hereditary?

So for those of you who know what your mother`s labors were like - were yours the same? My mother had rapid labor with all three of her kids. She labored for 4 hrs with me (the first) 3hrs with the second, and just 2 hrs with the third. With me she literally went from 4cm to fully dilated in 30 minutes. While it sounds great on the surface, I am terrified of not getting to the hospital in time and delivering on the side of the road lol. So does anyone know if that kind of thing is hereditary? My mom and I are also built very similarly in the hips, wide and full and (hopefully) good for birthin` babies :-)

wedward **PINK** - 521 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Yes! It is hereditary, which I did not know my first go around. My grandmother and my mother both had fast births. Uncle was born in the elevator and my mom's labors were 5 hours. My first was born 5 minutes after I got to the hospital and second was induced and arrived 3 hrs later. You might want to talk about an induction to be safe.

caraj - 522 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) my mum and i had similar length labors that being said we have similar shaped bodys. her first(me)7hrs from waters breaking to delivered 2nd was 4hrs then her 3rd was less than 1 and a half hours from waters breaking to delivered, my first even with complications was 8hrs and my second was just under 2hrs from waters breaking to being on my chest =).

I had 28 hours of horrible labor with my daughter and it ended up with an emergency c-section! :( were definatly not built the same tho, my mum is tiny but tall, my hips are wider then hers and I'm shorter :p and you would never guess she carried 3 kids, the last one being almost 10pounds and she doesn't have A stretch mark! I don't have many but still have em... I was hoping that was heriditary but nope :p

ttc6thbaby - 522 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i wish it worked that way! My mom and sister had easy short labors, while i had days of labor. Even my 4th baby was 11 hours, and its was alot shorter then the rest!

jenica - 522 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I'm one of 3 girls, my mom's shortest labor was 18 hrs. I've had two really quick labors. The shortest was an hour and a half from beginning to end. I thought I was gonna drop him in the hallway of the hospital!! My sister has also had really short labors ranging from 3-4 hours.

Rubes - 522 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My mum had me after a 5 and a half hr labour. I had my daughter after a 4 and a half hour labour. My hospital is about 30 mins away and I left as soon as My contractions hit the length and frequency I was advised by my hospital. She came 4 hrs later.

allynne7 (jaime) - 522 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) my mom's first labor was 3 days then for me it was 4 hours. When I gave birth to DD it was less than 4 hours and she was out. When my older sister gave birth both of hers were about 10 hours.

littlebug12 - 522 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Mine have been just like my moms. She has 4. With my little brother it was 30 min from the time she new she was in labor until he was born. Scary. My daughter which was my third was born in under 2 hrs. Just don't put it off if you think it is starting. Good luck!
