Hi ladies! How old were your kids when you took their bumpers off of their cribs, and did it affect their sleep patterns at all? My twin boys are 10 months old, and their bumpers are hand me downs, some of the tie strings are broken, and I`m beginning to think it might be dangerous for it to be on the cribs now. I thought of buying a new one, but they have to be close to getting rid of them anyway, right? TIA!

lisseo - 333 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My son is 11 months, and I took his off to wash them a few weeks ago and just never put them back on, but I'm seriously debating it. I would say take them off, leave them off and see what happens? I took them off at 8 months, but my son's legs were getting stuck through the bars, and he wasn't able to get them out himself, so they got put back on. But so far, he just pushes his hands through, not legs caught yet! So, give it a try :)

crystal10102007 - 333 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Bumpers should never be used on any crib no matter what the age. As a public health nurse we tell all parents this. Many aren't aware of the sids risk. The only thing that should be in the crib is the baby, and a light blanket if you feel the need to use one. They stop the air from flowing well into the crib, they also pose a suffocation risk because once they start moving they can entangle themselves in them. I would definetly take them off, and recommend to everyone to not use them at all even as infants. It is just not safe.

mybabysuprise - 333 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Bumpers pose unneeded sids and suffocation risks Also, my boy sat up on his own amd stood up on his own for the first time during the same weekend so there is no safe time to wait. The can use the bumpers to help them stand up high enough to fall out. I would remove them. There is no reason it would disturb their sleep. Since you are asking whether to remove them then I think you know as their mom that it is time for your kids. Everyone has the right to choose whether to use a bumper and when to remove them

yayfornumber2 - 333 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My son is 2 and a half and we just transitioned him into a toddler bed...the bumpers were still on his crib when we did that. I left them on there because 1. they matched the bedding, and 2. otherwise I can imagine with all his flopping about his little arms and legs would be hanging out the crib bars....I actually thought it was the opposite of what you are saying, you are not supposed to have them on there when they are very small babies due to the increased risk of sids, and as they get older I thought you were supposed to put them on. Either way, I think at 10 months they'd be fine without them if you want to take them off! Now that they can stand up in there I don't think you have to worry about them flipping around in there and banging their heads!
