What time should a 5 month old be put to bed? Added: 332 days ago. Added by: MichelleMc(pink!) Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
My daughter is just under 5 months old, and a terrible sleeper whether I try to put her to sleep early or later. What time is a baby this age `supposed` to go to bed for a good night`s sleep? Thank you!

6:30-7:30. Do you have a bedtime routine for her? It's important to do the same thing every night so she expects to go to bed. An example would be bath, lotion, pajamas, book, feed- bed. You don't want her to "feed" herself to sleep. After doing this same routine she'll start to learn that she's getting ready for sleep & it won't be such a struggle anymore. I didn't know to do this with my daughter until she was over 7 months old. I read an e-book by Dana Obleman and it's fantastic. If you google her you can find it and download it right away. There are lots of other people who have written on the subject. I just happened to choose hers and it was incredibly helpful!! Good Luck.

Any bedtime is good! When does she wake up? My son at 5 months was going to bed between 11-1am and then waking for the day (with a feeding appx 8 hours after bedtime) around 11am. I would shape it around when she is ready to get up for the day. Now he goes to bed around 8-9 getting up at the corresponding hour in the morning, and is a very good sleeper. But I too well remember that time where I was just wishing he would go to bed earlier!

My baby almost always went to bed at like 630-7. He is now 13 months old and goes to bed between 7-8. He has been an amazing sleeper since 4 months old

my kids both went to sleep around 9pm-930pm at that age. They napped in the morning from 9-11, had an afternoon sleep from 3-5pm. By 10 months, they were going to bed at 730-8pm and sleeping till 730 am, napping once from 10-12pm

Hi Michelle -- How are you? Well, I hope! Supposedly, babies should be going to bed around 6:30 or 7... but babies around the 4/5 month mark can be really bad sleepers because they are just starting to sleep like adults and wake every time they go through a sleep cycle. My little guy will be 5 months on July 1 so we have been going through this. However - at the begining of June he was not going to sleep until 10 or 11, and then getting up once or twice then we get up at at 4:30 for work and I was losing my mind. First, I made sure that during the day I (my mother-in-law during the week) - paid attention to when he was truly sleepy. They say babies at this age will only stay awake for about 2 hours before needing a little nap. So, we started the wake, eat, play, sleep routine. (my mil has changed it up and lets him eat then sleep usually) Then, when he wanted to nap anytime after 6 pm, I started taking him in our dark room, nursing him to sleep and each time he wakes either nursing or cuddling him to sleep again. A month later - he is ready to go to bed around 6:45/7 on his own. He still wakes up at 8:30 or so and I soothe him to sleep, but from there he is sometimes now sleeping through the night or only waking once! Those first few weeks were exhausting because I spent hours in a dark room trying to get him to relax and he was waking every 20 minutes, but they say you need to reset their circadian rhythm. My doc says crying it out younger than about 6 months is in vain because of how they are developing. He suggests gentle sleep help up until that point. Good luck, and hang in there!
