Hi everyone, i am very excited about having my scan on Thursday and really don`t want to make it mega uncomfortable by having a full bladder for an hour before and think the volume i was told to drink this time is excessive. I`m thinking of going to the toilet half an hour before the appointment and then drink 2 glasses of water instead of 1 hour before and 4 glasses (800 ml they told me i will be wetting my pants!). Has anyone been told they hadn`t drunk enough or do u think it is ok not to drink as much as requested? Cheers! Michelle

moshol - 355 days ago THANK YOU everyone! I had a great time and went to the toilet about 20 mins before the scan and just had a few swigs on my water on the way there. She didn't comment at all on how much water was in my bladder must have been an old school receptionist!

cari - 356 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I went pee right before I left my house for my 20week ultrasound and just drank a 16oz water bottle, by the time the doctor called me in my bladder was full again.lol

yayfornumber2 - 356 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I NEVER drink much before an ultrasound even though they tell you to, my sister is an OB nurse and she even said that in early pregnancy it is vital so that they can see the baby, but once you hit the late teens and twenties (weeks) they can see everything even with hardly anything in your bladder..it would be fine

dollymomma - 356 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I was never told to have a full bladder and all of my ultrasounds went just fine. Once she was bigger I did drink a glass of OJ 30 minutes before the scan to get her movin : )

moshol - 356 days ago Oh dear i have been trying to edit my message but it keeps spamming arghhh. Gracie i was thinking the same thing- it made sense to have to drink a lot when uterus was hiding in the pelvis. Shauna eow i can imagine the relief when you finally got to the toilet i hope they don't ask me to add more!

moshol - 356 days ago Thanks for the tips i'm looking forward to a comfortable not too busting ultrasound tomorrow :)

ShaunaMarie - 356 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My baby hid behind my bladder! It was full, and they still had a hard time getting good picturesvof her. They actually made me fill it more! Then, i had to wait 30 more minutes. It was hell on my bladder. I still had to empty my bladder to finish. It was a very long scan. However, it was more because my baby didn't cooperate ever!

Gracies5th - 356 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) my big ultrasound was 45 minutes long... and there was no reason to hold pee at that point during the pregnancy.. they said that that was for when the baby was very small.. the water wouldnt make any difference later on as the baby was bigger.

kiwichick - 356 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I was told it's not necessary, you should just pee if you need to! Could do more damage hanging on (UTI type stuff)

bkz123 - 356 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I agree..just drink a couple glasses of water about 45 minutes or hour prior and it will be fine! There is nothing worse than needing to pee while having the u/s!

bcalove82 - 356 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Same as frenchie...I started drinking one big glass an hour before and it is perfect.

frenchie23 - 356 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I always drink only 2glasses of water an hour before the appt because every single time before I was told that my bladder was way too full and I would have to empty half of it... Easier said then done to stop peeing when you really have to go lol... Even now that I drink only 2glasses of water, I'm still told that my bladder is very full...And most of the time they end up asking me to fully empty it to finish the exam.... If I were you I would still drink the water an hour prior to make sure that your bladder is full... It's better they tell you to empty it then they tell you It's not full enough.... ;)

jamie86 - 356 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I've never had to have a full bladder for my u/s, they make you empty your bladder at my dr office but I know every place is different. If you were told to drink and have a full bladder then I would drink some but maybe not as much as they told you. Good luck.
