My son turned 1 on June 22nd and I want to get his portraits taken so we will have a nice 1 year photo of him, but I am so lost..I have never had photos taken of any of my kids besides their newborn photos...my daughter had some done when she was 3 and they came out really nice, but I won the package (it was worth about $150) and I only payed $15 for it...so that being said I have no idea how much it will be costing me...I plan to go to a sears, jcpenny or olan mills studio to have them done, I don`t want to go somewhere super expensive...and also I am unsre of what I want him to wear, what I want for a backdrop and props etc...I want to do this before too much time goes by and he changes from the 1 year old baby look...if any of you could share your experiences and any tips on wat you did with your childs photos and how much they cost that would be great...thanks a bunch!

While I agree with the two other responses, I wonder how often you think you'll be taking these pictures? Sears, JC Penney's, and even Walmart (if there's a nice one near you) do a good job at giving you cute pictures on a budget. Sometimes there are restrictions based on your coupon regarding how many poses you can choose, however. If you plan on going to get pictures done often, then I say those are probably your best bet. I like to take "6 mos" pictures, and have a little suit that both of my boys wore for those portaits. I got them done at Kiddie Kandids (before they were part of Babies R Us, and most recently at a Babies R Us location) and they are fantastic. They have a ton of props, are great with the kids, and the pictures always turn out better than you could have imagined. They are on the expensive side, but my rationale was that they're only like this once, and I don't often get professional pictures done of my kids, so I splurged. You can also find coupons on their websites. There's also picture people, but I've found their stores hit or miss with the people who work there. As far as your indecision, does he have an outfit that looks especially cute on him? Do you want him to be 'dressed up' or casual? If you're not sure, you could go on two different days, with the coupon and have him dressed differently. I am always a fan of overalls on little boys, and they make so many cute kinds now! Whatever you decide, try to go with an outfit that's not super busy. Avoid small plaid, or busy patterns. Sears also has some props, including the numbers like angie said below. In my experience (and my oldest is 10), you may think the pictures could've been cuter when you're taking them, but 2 years (or even 6 mos) down the road, you'll think, wow, they've grown, look at how cute he was then! :-) try not to sweat it, and most importantly, go when he's in a good mood, like right after his snack time! :-) best of luck!

I go to JC Penny's for our pics and go a few times a year. I'm not sure how much the sitting fee is but each page you want is $4. You can get 8x10, 2 5x7, 8 wallets, for $4 a piece. YOu can also buy a package deal for enhances photos if you want to do that. We usually just buy what sheets we want for us and our family and spend like 50 to 60 on them. When is your ds into??? Trucks-dinosaurs- elmo?? Maybe do something around what he is really into. You can bring some of his toys. JC Penny usually has the number 1 and other props too. have fun with them!!

I have family portraits done once a year at Sears. I receive coupons in my email and have not paid full price for photos purchased and have never used a session fee. It started when I won a free session and a free 16X20. After that I have received several offers. You can go to searsportraits.com and look at their special offers for current in-store promotions which often have no session fee and either a percentage off of portraits and/or a free wall portrait. Also try googling "sears portraits coupons" I believe the site retailmenot.com keeps up with current special offerings. Hope this helps.
