toilet paper question!( kinda gross) Added: 302 days ago. Added by: bcalove82 Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
What do you do with toilet paper after you, ya know...use it? I let my daughter have several little friends over today and they all threw their toilet paper in the trash. We flush it! I ended up cleaning feces off the wall and bleaching and cleaning my trashcan that we use trash like empty toothpaste tubes or paper towels after cleaning, etc. I told the girls that we flush the toilet paper at our house and they looked at me like I was the weird one! DH says it is a cultural thing. Is that true?

This is interesting lol I always flush and teach my children to flush the paper, but my grandmother is mexican and she throws it in the trash bin unless its "dirty", and I was told to do the same when I lived there...but I thought it was because of the septic, not our culture?

I don't think any of the little girls come from Mexico in their lifetime, but their parents might have or grandparents. I didn't really ask or think about it. I didn't really think to, it as just dh's explaination. All the little girls we had over speak Spanish as well as English ( which is one reason I love having them over besides the fact that they are good little girls. From an educational standpoint, I really want DD to be bilingual by the time she graduates and she has a Spanish tutor and everything so it is like getting to play and learn at the same time) and live in our neighborhood and play with my kid all the time, it was must the first time I kept them all in the house long enough to use the bathroom. We have had some plumbing issues when we moved in but my husband is very handy and fixed it and replaced areas of pipe, so he could have been wrong about why they did that. It could be that everyone in the neighborhood has the bad plumbing we did but without the " handy dad" we have in terms of plumbing ability.

My family is from overseas (Africa) and we, as well as everyone else I know, flush it. I have never come across this throwing tp in the garbage can business. I'm glad you brought it up b/c I wouldn't know how to handle it either... I guess I should be thankful for good plumbing? :-)

I imagine it would be less disgusting if A. I had a trash can equipped for that use and B. The little girls weren't so little. They were 4,4,5 and 6 and one of them went number two and tried to throw the paper in the can and got grossness on the wall. I am thankful for good plumbing. I cannot imagine the time her mommy has at home! It was bad. I use a different bathroom so I didn't notice until I went in to check on hand towels and tp and "company soap."

wow, that would cause quite an odor! I have never heard of this before. Which sounds strange. But where the pkumbing may be an isssue and such i can seee how throwing it in a trash can can be necessary.. i hope it is a trashcan with a lid and bags with odor elimiators.. haha otherwise that could be a hassle.. but really, this is new to me.. guess you learn something new every day.

I was always taught to flush it, but since visiting my grandparents.... My grandmother will throw paper from No1 in the trash and flush No2, she says it's because she grow-up in a house with poor plumbing.

We flush it, although we are having some issues with our plumbing at the moment so we are not flushing the toilet paper right now.

Interesting.....I had no idea. He did say it was specifically people from Mexico. His response was " oh! Their parents or grandparents must be from Mexico..." and the proceded to explain that the plumbing in Mexico does not handle toilet paper due to tbe types of pipes used and generation after generation of people just got used to throwing it in the trash and the tradition carried here. I had no idea! I have lived a stone's throw from Mexico my whole life and never knew that!
