Im on my 6th baby, eleventh pg, ALL have been c/s. I have only had a non stress test once. The DR was trying for VBAC with my 2nd baby and wanted me to have the testing. NOw, for some odd reason, my DR ordered a NST to be done next thursady, I will be 38 weeks. I dont get it and didnt think to question him then. It is totally irrelevant with a c.s...isnt it?!? I thought the purpose of the test was to see idf the baby could handle contractions and so on. Im not going into labor, Im scheduled for c/s on the 16th. Has anyone else had a Dr do this? Im thinking about just cancelling the test becuase it seems a waste of time and he is onvacation until 2 days before my c/s so I cant even ask him now.

They monitor the babys movements, heart rate & picks up contractions & your blood pressure. I was induced with my 1st pregnancy, while I was at a NST my bp was crazy high, so they induced. They probably just wanna monitor things & see how your baby does when your at a calm state. I also had contractions at my NST & it doesn't pick them all up. Good Luck :)

lil.pigz - 293 days ago Thank you all for the responses:-)This pg has been and done everything out of the normal for me,lol. I go next Thursday for the nst.

Eloiseandharrys-mummy! - 294 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i agree with harrycat

brittany l - 294 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) The NST monitors baby's heart rate, along with fetal movement. It's not just to check contractions. They want to count the times baby moves in a certain amount of time. As well as watch his heart rate.

BabyMaker39 - 294 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i thought ann NST was to "check on baby" to see how everything is doing... when I was hooked to mine they didn't even show my contractions, they were only watching baby's heartrate for a good 10 minutes.

yayfornumber2 - 294 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) How is your blood pressure? I am having a scheduled c-section October 8 and my doctor told me because of my blood pressure she is going to start ordering non stress tests once I hit like 34 weeks or something.

Harrycat - 294 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Maybe ask the surgery why the test was ordered. Sometimes in teh UK they do CTGs (i think a similar test!) just to check the babies heart beat......I was referred because of suspected obstetric cholestasis and a friend was referred because her baby was small for dates.....if the heartbeat doesn't vary enough it can be a sign of trouble and they then go on to do further tests such as a doppler to check placental flows.....in worst case scenario they sometimes deliver slightly early. It may well also be you were referred for no good reason and its a case of over investigation. But unless you're certain then it may be worth going as its not invasive and whilst it may prove to be a waste of time won't otherwise do any harm

ttc6thbaby - 294 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) hunny its more to see if the baby is stressed inside. adding contractions just help them see if hes ok on moniter

lil.pigz - 294 days ago Sheesh, sorry about all of the typos and mispellings, lol.
