Hey ladies I`m a first timer and heading into the home stretch (thank God, Buddha, Allah, Krishna, and Jesus) and am wondering what I need to pack in the hospital bag? I want to keep it as simple and basic as possible. What are the hospital bag must haves?

kamy107 - 289 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i had to have stitches both times, and like to bring a little baggie of epsom salts. they give you a squirt bottle to clean yourself everytime you go to the bathroom, but if you mix in the salt, it feels so much better. also, i agree with teh pajama's, i like to have pants and a button down shirt. it makes me feel more secure, plus you're in pain, so you won't want to have to mess with pulling up a whole nightgown. also, i'm not sure how my FIL would react to me pulling up my whole dress when it was time to feed the baby. ;-) not discounting kirbyann's opinion, just giving a different perspective. i also bring baby nail clippers, the jagged/long fingernails drive me crazy! :-) this is just my imput aside from what everyone else had. also, i think most hospitals have lanolin creme, so you don't need to bring that. snacks come in handy too. i don't live far from the hospital (10 mins) so if i forget things, its no big deal, someone is always coming/going, but if you do live far away, you might need a whole suitcase! :-)

memer - 291 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) There is a lot of good advice here, especially about the old-fashioned nightgown. One that buttons up the front and, for my preference, has short sleeves so you can feel your little one's soft warm head in the crook of your arm. Aw :) If you have more than one, that's great, because you might bleed on them. They let you eat during labor in Denmark, and I tell you, I was so motivated to nibble on those Pringles that had been taunting me for weeks from my pre-packed hospital bag. I did get an epidural, it kicks in right away and I asked, "can I eat now?", thinking of said Pringles. It really made the nurse and anesthesiologist laugh. They had yet to meet a laboring mother who wanted to eat. But anyway! I'm sure you are not hte junk food type - after the whole labor and whatnot, I was so drained. I drank a bottle of organic fruit-veggie blended drink and I could feel it too my fingertips how happy my body was to get it. I had to have a C-section and my husband nabbed a bunch of the fishnet panties before we left and I really liked them. Even the biggest real undies I could find were too irritating to my incision. The hospitals here don't provide wipes, just these foamy sheets and a bowl of water - I think wipes would be better for cleaning that sticky, dark first poops. Best wishes for a great experience!

elequin - 291 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) was just thinking about this very qu tonight :) I will be taking about 4 pairs of black undies and pads, a nursing bra and nursing pads, a big tube of Lansinoh nipple cream, about 3 pairs of clothes for bub, two receiving blankets, my pajamas, and an outfit to go home in for both me and bub, plus moisturiser, and my usual toilet bag. I actually plan on going home asap if I can, but they like you to stay in overnight usually where I'm from, so I anticipate doing at least one night in hospital. I am also (believe it or not) taking my teapot and some dandelion tea this time around, to try and help the fluid go down - I swell up bigtime after birth. Lol my list sounds crazy in comparison to others...

kirbyann - 291 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I disagree with taking pants to sleep in... too much work when you have to pee and such. Take one of those "old fashioned" style nighties... the dress kind and one that you can nurse in if you are going to be nursing bubs. I have used the same ONE for 4 previous times and will be again this time around. So I vote NO pants - the less you have to bend down and pull up the better! My list: CAMERA, extra card and extra (charged) batteries A CHANGE OF CLOTHES including NURSING BRA & milk PADS for inside the bra (nighty & socks for if you get the chills afterwards - which is totally normal) ( I LOVED the mesh underwear they give but some don't so undies that will easily hold the giant pads they give you to help soak up the massive amounts of blood you'll be gushing/leaking) 2-3 OUTFITS FOR BABY ( poo & wee accidents are common!) And make one the take home outfit BLANKET FOR BABY (we usually only take one appropriate to the weather) DIAPERS & WIPES (esp. for when you go home) (most hospitals provide some, but not all do or enough of them) The PACIFIERS you want to use (if you are going to use one - and I suggest bringing a couple different kinds as NONE of my kids ever used the same kind as the other did and two of them 'tried' two or three before I found one they actually liked and didn't gag on) CLOTHES TO GO HOME IN (plus DEODORANT, BRUSH and HAIR TIES) We (I ) never stay more than the mandatory hours so we usually head back home within a few hours of having baby. If you are planning on staying more than 3-6 hours consider bringing something to read... but my guess is that you'll want to just hang out and take lots of showers...

brittany l - 291 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Camera & charger/extra batteries, and cell phone charger are musts!!

brittany l - 291 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Most hospitals provide pads & a 'net' style underwear. Also the usually provide toothbrush/toothpaste. I take PJ's/sweats, robe, sandals/slippers, hair brush, bodywash, shampoo, conditioner, clothes to go home in, hair ties, my own deoderant, my own pillow. For baby, just a couple outfits if you don't want him/her to stay in hospital t-shirts, outfit for pix, going home outfit, a couple diapers & some wipes in case you make a stop on the way home, a soft blanket, socks, and a hat. The hospital will provide a hat, pacifier and t-shirts, they will also provide diapers & wipes for your stay.

hannahe - 292 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) lots and lots of underwear and pants! haha, i bled all over the place. most hospitals have toothbrushes and toothpaste, which i used cuz i didnt want to take home a toothbrush that has been at a hospital, i dunno, just kinda weirded me out. anyways, dont forget your chargers for pones and cameras and dont forget deoderant. i also packed a book and cookies cuz they make me happy and when i was sitting there bored i could read a good book and munch cookies :)

sma123 - 292 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) clothes (I ALWAYS bring PJ's so I don't have to lay around in that stupid gown), shampoo, conditioner, body wash/soap, underwear that are a little too big and that you don't care if they get ruined (those underwear made out of fishnet are horrible), baby clothes (mainly to go home in), cell phone/charger, camera/charger, change/dollar bills, nursing bra, vitamins/medications that you may take

wantsone - 292 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Blessedwith4now5 is right, the hospital will provide a lot too. I always pack a nail file, babies have sharp nails when born and the hospital nor you can cut them yet so they must be filed down.
