I am 17 weeks and 3 days I just went for my gender scan this evening and we found out we are having a boy but they have come across the wee guys left kidney and said it was in flamed and swollen and had urine in it , she is now going to get in contact with my midwife 2mrw to get me in for a detailed scan , should I be worried ? What does that mean ? Thanks

smiles844 - 285 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I wouldn't worry yet...I just recently had my little munchkin, and they did the gender scan for me and decided his stomach was enlarged and I had to recieve another ultrasound from a specialist who decided the stomach was fine, but one of his kidneys was enlarged. The next time I went back that was cleared up, but they found another problem...I didn't go back. I had my son on mother's day, and ther's not a thing wrong with him. Don't worry until you know for sure, for sure. Ultrasounds are fun and sometimes helpful, but overall they are not accurate. Hope this helps!

Or just to make sure his kidney is working. My daughter was also scanned at a few weeks old, she is perfectly fine just has a larger kidney (which could b a family trait). It has never caused any concern for her. Good luck. :)

waiting4number2 - 286 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Like Mommytoanl stated it could be reflux. My DD has it, they didn't find it while I was pregnant. We didn't know until she was 2 months old very similar to mommy2anl stated my daughter spiked a high fever of 104.1 and became very ill. She stayed in the hospital for a week before she was well enough to come home. She is now 13 months and takes antibiotics everyday. At 1.5 yrs they will check to see if she has out grown it. If she has not, she will have surgery. It's really simple to keep under control and sounds much scarier than it is. Try not to stress and enjoy your pregnancy. Congratulations on a little boy:)

AshleyNicole*TeamPink* - 286 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) As mommy2anl said it could be reflux. The doctors didn't find out about my reflux until I was 9 years old witch lead to a lot of kidney damage, so I had to have a surgery to help but with pelvic kidneys like I have there isn't a fix for the problem just a temp. fix to slow the process. I have one larger kidney(my left side), but both are only the size of a 2-4 year olds and never fully grown. I'm going on 22 in October with many scares along the way, so whatever you do make the doctors do all the test they can and figure out what it truly is so when he's older he will have a chance to live a somewhat normal life. I know it sounds scary, but I'm living proof that with reflux, pelvic kidneys, and now a heart condition you can live life normally.. it's just a little harder and I live with side pain daily. As far as I can see it things can always be worse, to be grateful for what your given. - Also with full blow kidney problems, keep doctors checking for sugar and heart issues since it's common to develop them over time.

mandi101uk1 - 286 days ago Thank you so much for the advice , u have helped me calm down abit , thank you and I will update you on how I get on .

mommy2anl - 286 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) It's possible your little guy has urine reflux into his kidney. My daughter had a condition that caused it as well...she had two left ureters and one was defective, and she also had what's called a ureterocele...which is like a balloon at the base of the defective ureter that fills the bladder causing urine to reflux back into the kidney. It's sounds really scary because it's a birth defect that has to be corrected with surgery, but don't drive yourself crazy with worry. It's possible your little guy doesn't have the same thing. If he does, be thankful they are catching it now and can educate you on what to expect before he's even born. They never caught my daughters condition on u/s and we only found out when she was two months old and spiked a 103.5 fever due to UTI...which led to several scans and tests that were inconclusive, which is worse than knowing and preparing for what to expect. She ended up having surgery at 3 months after having a CT that finally showed the defect, and then again at a year old to finish correcting the defect. She will be 3 in October and hasn't had any UTIs or needed anymore surgeries since...and at her 2 year follow up, the urologist said he only wants to see her at 3 to make sure there is still no reflux and then she's done. Try not to worry, it all seems overwhelming and scary, but your little guy will be fine and this won't set him back in development or potty training at all. Keep me updated and good luck at your detailed scan.
