Discomfort: lower right rib cage

Discomfort:Achy pressure behind my rib cage on the lower right side only. I feel as though I constantly have to hold my rib in, so it won't roll up and out. It started out as an occasional pain when I slouched, but now at 27 weeks, it's become almost constant, regardless of position. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? My friends are at a loss, and my doctor didn't have much insight.

Discomfort:I have a dull constant pain in my right rib cage and it goes around to the back of my rib cage. It's very uncomfortable and it never goes away!
Treatment or advice:I lift my right arm over my head to kind of stretch out my right side. This seems to help until my arm starts to get tired or tingly.

Wow! Same exact thing is happening to me. Much worse when I sit - which I do a lot for work. Now, at 32 weeks, even lying down doesn't help until it's been a few hours! As with you, stretching my right arm up helps for awhile until my arm goes to sleep. When I'm lying down, putting a warm heating pad over my ribs on that area helps too, but I can't do that all day every day...

Discomfort:I started to get this sharp pain in both my ribs. One day it would be on my left side the other day my right. Sometimes it would hurt for 5 min. Sometimes it would last for about 15. I dont know if it could be from my baby or if there could be something wrong. has any1 else felt this before? How long til the baby really gets up in the ribs?

I am in week 24.5, and have been experiencing this numbness under my left breat, exactly where the image shows. Am relieved now, as I was worried before. Its been there for a week, and started off as muscele 'twiches', which I though was the baby poking me. Now its relatively numb to the touch.

Yeah I am only 8-9 weeks with bub no.2 and I am getting a lot of discomfort already in my ribs. I had excruciating rib pain in labour with my first and the last few weeks were terrible before she was born. I am pretty small and my husband is huge so the dynamics aren't in my favour! The only things that have been helping me this time is pregnancy yoga and stretching my back muscles before I go to bed. As you get further along, some yoga poses can help move the baby into a better position. Of course make sure you talk to a professional yoga instructor on guidance for positions. Couple this exercise with swimming and I promise you will be in pregnancy heaven! Seeing a chiropractor is a God Send too!

i have the same pain. the skin is so sensitive to the touch, it almost stings when my clothes rub on it. I get the same pain from the front and goes to my back too... I'm 27 weeks and have had this since 20 weeks. It's horrible! I sit all day and it makes it worst. I can't even wear a bra cuz it hurts when anything rubs on it. And tylenol does not work at all. Not even a belly support would help it. This is soooo hard!!!

I am 34 weeks pregnant and even though I hate to hear of other people in pain or having discomfort, I was relieved to see all these comments of women with the same problem. I have the stinging, burning sensation, sometimes severe stabbing pain under my right breast. My baby is breech, currently, and I am posting because I have discovered in the last day (my pain has been present for over a week) that one of my baby's body parts is stuck there, everytime I have the pain I can feel him in the exact spot. So i think alot of it has to do with baby's position. Also a strange side note my right leg is completely numb from the knee and has been since this started, I was told that the baby is laying on one of my nerves causing this strange occurance. Hope this helps

Frances, I have been having the same problem off and on for a month. I am currently 30 weeks, but I also had it previously when I was only 10 weeks. I noticed that it was a whole lot worse when I hadn't drank enough liquid. It is one sign of dehydration, as well as pregnancy. Other than that, the only relief I have found is to recline with my back supported as this broadens your chest to give your lungs more room to expand.

Discomfort:Numbness. It feels like a painful numbness, like how my hands or feet get pins and needles. Almost like a little bit of vibrating. At first it was just a little irritating, and now (35 weeks 3 days as of Nov 7), its getting more painful.
Treatment or advice:Doc said it MAY just be muscle spasms.

I am 30 weeks and have had this sharp pain under my right breast for about a month - feels like there should be a bruise there but nothing...the doctor said it's probably the baby or the liver being pushed - sometimes it just randomly stings or throbs - doesn't help that as my boobs get bigger they irritate the area!

I have the exact same thing happening to me (26 weeks), only it hasn't been painful yet, just annoying with the spasms and tingling. I notice it happens mostly after I eat a big meal. I'm curious what the cause of it is as well.

Hey all! I have read all of these complaints and I hope you read my comments. I have had two pregnancies and in both I have had the same symptons! My doctor thought it was my gal bladder. We did everything from a diet change to an ultrasound twice of the area(which is right underneath my right breast) and nothing showed up. When I was not pregnant the pain was not there. A few months ago, I got the pain again and I was not prego! I thought my gal bladder was gonna bust! I went to the hospital and it was not my gal bladder. Meeting with a specialist a week later, I learned I had IBS (Irritable Bowl Syndrome). My first pregnancy most likely brought it out. Thats what was and is wrong with me. Ask your doctor about it. It might help!

I have been having sharp pins and needles like pains on my right side under my boob. (sorry tmi) I cant stand it and doc wont do anything about it.The only relief I get is when im laying on it and even then that last about 10 mins so im constantly tossing and turning. And forget sitting in an upright position for more then 15 minutes at a time.

Discomfort:Baby's foot/butt is constantly putting pressure right under my right rib. Feels like dull throbbing. Only gets very brief relief when baby stretches her legs out to one side, but always returns to the same spot.
Treatment or advice:Gently pushing her feet away from the area, but it's only temporary as she always returns. Cold glass of ice water makes her move sometimes.

Discomfort:It feel like a stabbing pain right under my boob. Whatever I do makes it worse. Cold things make it worse. Standing crouching, nothing helps but pain killers. An half the time that doesn't work. It's not something you can deal with. It hurts way to bad.

my advice for the last poster with the pain under right breast, make sure you call your Dr. or nurse and just let them know if you have not already, esp since pain pills do not help because this CAN be a symptom of a specific pregnancy related problem

Discomfort:At first this came once every so often and never lasted for more than a day. I am now in my 32nd week of pregnancy and my rib is very bruised and has been going on for days. I mentioned it to my midwife along with the awful acid reflux I've been having and she shrugged and said after pregnancy it will go!!! Not the help I was after.
Treatment or advice:Holding my arm up gives some relief but I can't walk around like that all day! My first child gave me no hassle, you wouldn't have known he was there but this one seems determined to brea free!

Discomfort:from time to time i get a horrible, breathtaking pain under my rib where the ribs end. It feels like a burning pain, or a cutting pain. I notice it alot when I am getting in or out of the car. It truly feels like someone has a lit match on the inside of me or like someone is cutting me from the inside. Also, the skin is very sore to touch in this area. Almost feels burnt. My only comfort is knowing that I am delivering in 5 days.

That breathtaking burnign pain you feel could be a broken rib. I should know..I broke two of my mom's ribs from the inside before I was born...plus I made her gain like pounds..lucky her...

Discomfort:Dull to sharp pain by my right rib. Constantly there, sometimes better than worse. Hurts to lay on that side for a prolonged period of time and feels like my ribs are bruised when touched.
Treatment or advice:The doctors said the way the baby was sitting was pinching my tube leading from my right kidney to my bladder, causing it to retain liquid, swell and stuff. They say it can be dangerous if lasting thoughout the entire pregnancy. Is known to cause perminent kidney damage. I'm 23 weeks now and it is starting to get better. Treatment is to have surgery to install a tube leading from the kidney to bladder. I've decided to live with this discomfort, the only side effects the doctors said are pre-mature labor and discomfort from the tube. Why risk it. So i am on tylenol 3

I have been having this pain for weeks now and its starts more or less as soon as i wake to when i go to bed. it really hurts and at times i'm in tears as it's so painful. I really am struggling with this pregnancy and this pain is so unbearable.

It feels like I have a broken rib, the entire rib is sore from front to back and it is odd because lower and higher ribs don't hurt, just the one that my bras run along on the right. My skin has started going numb most of the time and burning others. If I press there, it feels like it's bruised and if I rub my rib, I can feel it move. I don't know whether to call the doc or if this is normal. I know it's not the baby yet cus he is staying lower still and I am in week 24. The soreness has lasted for three or four weeks already.

O my goodness, I have had terrible right sided rib pain. Basically my doc said there's not much I can do about it. Likely it is caused by my uterus irritating my diaphragm and the baby pushing up. Gosh! its awful! I am 28 weeks and its only going to get worse! I try stretching, positioning, biofreeze, ice, you name it-some of these help a little but the pain is constant :/ Hope that it doesn't continue to get worse-I don't know how I'll be able to function :( If only my torso were a few inches longer!

Discomfort:Sharp pain after sitting at a desk all day (work). Wearing a wire bra doesn't make it easier.
Treatment or advice:I only get it when I’m at work or sitting for too long, So it’s mostly during the week, by the time I get off work and home, It’s really bad. I relieve it by taking off my bra and go lay down. My dr said my baby (boy) is very high, and I’m guessing when I sit down he has less space to move around so he tends to poke me in my ribs! Wearing a bra with a wire is really bad, it’s very light pressure but it’s very painful!
