Jenny - I totally understand that new isn't always an option for everyone but there are just some things like a car seat that you just don't want to risk it. As for people being liable. Things are sold all the time that aren't supposed to be. On ebay and craiglist you will find used single user breast pumps. This is actually illegal to sell but people do anyways and no one ever gets 'caught'. I'm sure you very careful with what you buy for good reason. So am I. I don't agree that we need to establish a law but I'm also not up and arms about it. Personally I think it's a waste of tax money to go through the whole process for it to become a law. As for lead being in new items, sadly that's true. It's also a good reason to be up to date with recalled items. I've only had one item recalled. It was a boppy cover that had lead on the zipper of all things. Stupid but I'm glad it was found and recalled. My sister has had a car seat recalled. I feel fortunate that I haven't had to go buy a new one because of something that serious. I think you will be surprised on how little this changes how many businesses work.

hey ladies! does anyone have a baby that is picky of what they eat? it seems my daughter doesnt like anything to eat! at her 9 month check up she wieghed only 15.2 lbs. before her 9 month c/u she was sick so i think that factored in to her not eating. the dr just told me to monitor her wieght and wanted to know how much formula shes taking in (which is 20-25 oz/day). the good news is she is up to 18 lbs but it seems like a challenge each time i feed her. please comment on my page. thanks.

Cee - Deep breaths! It will be ok. I personally have not dropped a phone, but i have dropped a remote on my son's head and now that he is older and climbing he has now fallen off his brother's toddler bed several times and off the couch twice (that i have seen). Babies are more durable than you would think. As long as he is acting normal, then i would say there prob is nothing ot be worried about.

CEEJAYLPN - 1137 days ago.
hi everyone, my son is 7 days old, and I was breast feeding earlier and had called my mom to ask a question about his eating and the phone dropped and hit him on the forehead he didnt cry and there is no raised area no red area al; of his actions are normal he was awake and looking around for about an hour after ate a little and is now resting...his respirations are normal he squints and wimpers when I move him which is normal, anyone else have anything like this happen?? I'm just woried, I read a lot of forums and it says if his actions are normal not to worry but just wandered if anyone had any advice (other than Iam never talking on the phone again when I feed him) or if you had a similar thing happen, all comments welcome.....thanks so much! (first time mom)

Bri and Happy-While I agree with your comments to some degree, consignment shops have been doing this for years. I think Congress went overboard on this one. I only buy good, clean, quality items. Frankly, I am offended. Not everyone has the $$$ to go out and buy a new crib/changer table, etc. I don't buy from trashy places. I know in our area our consignments shops are very, very picky about what they will accept and comply with the laws. Lead paint was/is in the toys in our major toy stores. I would hazard to guess you all bought some of those items too and you didn't know it there either. It was brand new. As far as garage sales, you could be held liable especially when the word is out. I don't think the government is going to scan neighborhood garage sales, but it could be a liability issue from a personal standpoint of selling them and it is now against the law. I have been in the insurance industry for 17 years and know much about how easy it is to be sued and win due to something like this. I just feel it is real sad when we cannot even have local business thrive because we outsource our toys to China. If we kept it here in the U.S., things could/would be different. I could go on and on. Only time will tell. My local TV station here is going to do a story on it based on an email I sent to them today. Take Care and happy buying the high priced items that were not safe to begin with.

peanutmommie - 1137 days ago.
divabhoney: it's not uncommon for bf babies to not have a bm for several days. up to 10 can be normal. i know it's hard not to worry but i'm sure your baby is just fine. go to kellymom.com to ease your mind :)

happyforest - 1137 days ago.
i dont think the law is that bad. i wouldnt want to buy something used and later have my baby get sick bc i didnt know what was in it. i would buy used items only from friends or family members that i know it is clean and in good condition and good quality. the consignment shops also dont want to get sued for selling an item that had lead paint in it. they cant take chances like that, and you shouldnt either.

Bri - 1137 days ago.
Jenny, this may really hurt consignment shops but they aren't going to go around fining homes/garage sales. Most people don't look at laws like that so they will continue to sell them during their summer garage sales. Personally, there are some things you need to buy new and baby furniture is one. I'd hate to have something break with my baby in it. Toys can fall apart too. We have a high end consignment shop in Redmond that I bought plenty of maternity clothes and some baby clothes from though. Great prices and some still have the tags on them.

Its-Chelle - 1137 days ago.
yeah here in town we were told all they accept is clothes..

jennya4 - 1137 days ago.
P.S. We cannot donate items either..Salvation Army, local charities....HOGWASH!!!!!!!!!! What are we going to do for those that have no money for these things??????

jennya4 - 1137 days ago.
Well, ladies the party is over for buying used furniture and toys at consignment shops and garage sales. I was shocked when I went into our local consignment shop yesterday to sell some of my daughter's toys and they cannot accept them. This is due to a recently signed and passed bill by Congress and Mr. Bush regarding the lead paint found in toys/furniture and the fact a lot of those are made in China. Congress has decided that any baby furniture/toys are too risky for resale (that is consignment shops, garage sales, etc). The big manufacturers have us tied. They have the money to test for lead and other bad things found in these items. The little man does not. Therefore, this means that the baby re-sale business here and in your town will go under. I don't know about any of you but I have bought some gorgeous furniture/toys at my consignment stores here where I live. In fact, my daughter is sleeping in her crib which was purchased at consignment. I spoke with the owner of the consignment shop I was at yesterday and she said this puts her sales down now 25% because of this law. She sold a crap load of toys/furniture everyday. This hurts all of us. Those of us who are struggling for every dollar we make and to make it count and those who own a business. It affects us all in some way or another. I urge you to please contact your local TV station and your Congressmen to tell them what is going on. Research it on the internet. It is all over the place about this bill. Go look at your consignment shops in town. Chances are they have a sign posted already. If not, then they will or they will face a fee of $100,000 for the first offense of sale. What about garage sales??? This is just ridiculous. I love my child and her safety is important to me but this is taking it a little too far in my opinion. What do you all think? A real travesty is being committed here.

i have a question? my almost 3month old latley has a bm every 7-8days. i keep calling the doc and they say give him a suppository. i breastfeed, is it something im eating? ive tried gas medicine but nothing works should i consult someone else?

DiandClover - 1138 days ago.
My 7 month old = 20 lbs. When he was 3 months old I was still breast feeding and he was already 14 lbs. He's perfectly healthy!

notsmithers - 1138 days ago.
dizzdayz my son is just over 6 months and he is 18 pounds!! i think its great, he was big when he was born and has thrived ever since and im bf.

dizzydayz - 1138 days ago.
my son is 7 months old and weighs 20 pounds is that to much

aamn105 - 1138 days ago.
Ok I had picked a name for my son that was different but not weird and that not everyone named their kid. Will when I found the name I knew that was it!!! Well after I had my son in May 2008 I told my friend whoms sister became pregnant and was told my sons name and liked it so much she used it.. I am very annoyed by that I wanted to tell her find her own damn name but I am not a mean person I had spent a few months looking for the right name and she put no effort just took mine because there aren't many babies with that name. Heck there was a couple my brother knows they named their son the same thing but I didn't care because they searched the name and didn't just take it from hearing it they have meaning behind it this girl just did it because she liked my sons name.. I just think its not right!!!! And needed to vent!!! I just don't think you should take someone elses baby name you should go thru the same process put meaning behind the name, not oh I liked her sons name so I wanted to use it.. Am I crazy or do you agree???

izziebo - 1138 days ago.
mari2625 my friends little brother was like that so the doctors told her to give him probiotic yogurt dunno how tre it is but its worth an ask

luvbeingamom - 1140 days ago.
Is he gettng enough water? Does he do well with adult food? Try some foods that help with constipation like prunes, raisins, and grapes.

mylittleman - 1140 days ago.
When my son was about 6 wks he didn't flinch when I vacuumed right next to him, or when loud noises happened. Of course he was alwasy sleeping when I was cleaning. When he was awake it was obvious to tell he could hear. If he wasn't too concentrated on something he would get excited by music and his little mobile. I think it all depends on how concentrated they are on something when they're awake and how sound asleep they are when they're sleeping!

notsmithers - 1140 days ago.
when my son was born i was worried about him been deaf bc of the same reasons, pots dropping, our dogs barking next to him etc. the doc didnt do a hearing test for ages on him. gradully he started to notice stuff but he could never be woken. now he is over 6 months and he is still a heavy sleeper and he has perfect hearing.

sandrad810 - 1140 days ago.
My baby is 6 weeks old and I am very afraid because you can run the vacume right next to him, play loud music even clap your hands next to his head and he will not turn towards the sound. He will sleep through doors slamming and I even dropped a pot on the floor in the kitchen and... nothing... he passed the hearing test when he was born but..... im scared.. does this mean my baby was born deaf??? shouldn't he be responding to sound? HELP

faith-star-x - 1140 days ago.
like i said its each to their own, but all my 4 children have had fresh cooled boiled water from a few days old, they also have dilute juice from around 9weeks, they are all ok and never had any probs x

RobinG - 1141 days ago.
An oz per age month is the safe amount suggested but more then that is unsafe and effects the balance of electrolites. My doc told me that milk is hydrating and with nutrients so if I felt my son was needing hydration to give milk since it also offers benefits. So that is what we did :) As long as what you gave is a small amount I'm sure it was fine :)

faith-star-x - 1141 days ago.
i would just like to say that i have 4 kids and have always given them water as they do get hot and dehydrated, i know our doctors give us all differnt advice, but ive never been told not to give them water, i have been encouraged to as it also helps them to not be constipated x
