When my son had a cold (and when we get colds..) I always use a vaporizer...I had a warm one but switched to a cold one...seemed safer. I buy the vicks liquid you can pour in there...it worked wonders!! I also made sure he had plenty of fluids. Thankfully it only lasted a few days! Hope your lo is feeling better soon :)

kikiea - 1151 days ago.
I read in a parenting magazine and saw it on Good Morning America.. for a cold you can use Vicks Vapo rub on the bottom of your childs feet!! Then for a young one, I would make sure they have feety pajamas, but otherwise just put on socks. I tried it when I had a cold about a month ago and it worked fabulously! They say your feet are so absorbant that the vaporub just works better!! If my son gets a cold soon, he's 13 months, I'm definitely trying it!!!

Hello everyone!! Well need some help! I gave my 7 month old son my cold :-( ... I have saw on the news that you should not give your child cold medicine if they are under 2 years old. They said test showed it doesn't help and several babies have died from it. What are somethings I could do to help him threw his cold?? Any suggest would be great. I have a rub from little remedies that I put on his chest and back but i don't know how much that will help seeing he just started getting sick today so this is the first time I have used it. HELP PLEASE!! I can't stand seeing him sick and feeling bad..

I cant relate, my sister had the same concern. Her doc told her it was because juice and water was introduced in it first instead of milk so it caused confusion because the bottle was what was associated with the milk, not the sippy. I would treat it like she did and just be persistant and not give anything in it but milk til she adjusts. If you give in she will learn that you will give in so just keep trying. The nutrients of the fruit can be found other ways instead of juice so perhaps not offer juice at all til she adjusts. If you want her ot have water and juice give it to her in the bottle as a reverse leson that many things can come from many types of cups/bottles. Hunter only had milk in his sippy for 2 months before we ever put anyting else in it and now he will drink either thankfully (())

Christmas is fun with the little ones isn't it!? A CHRISTMAS TIP. If your little ones try and pull the bottom of the tree, put the play pen around it. I also put the presents on the inside of the play pen and put tinsel on it to brighten it up. I also put the stockings on the playpen so it is still festive but not LOOKING forbidden

I HAVE FOUND THE GREATEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD FOR BOTTLE FED BABIES!!!!! They are called Tommee Tippee Compact Feed Dispensers. Basically its a compact airtight dispenser that sit inside your bottle(tommee tippee only) you put the right ounce feed in there, the right amount ounce water in the bottle and then sit the dispenser inside(like russian doll effect) then put the teat n cap on as normal. this eliminates wasting feeds as we all know formula lasts 2hr whrn made. water lasts 24hrs b4 stale. we use them when going out n make enough for the night feeds so we dont have to deal with screaming baby mid night. We wrap the bottle in a towel and sit on radiator for the night so its nice and warm for him. when needing a feed take out the dispenser n pour feed in water n shake as normal. I dont know if they are old news im late catching on but ive just found them and they are amazing. 6 dispensers for about £2. just wash n sterilise.

katemommy - a lot of personal health/life insurance companies now have a 'making a will' facility,so if you dont have personal insurance get that sorted espec now you have a child and then you can do the will at the same time.

katesmommy - 1159 days ago.
Perhaps not the most festive topics of discussion but my husband and I want to declare a legal pre-need guardian for our baby. We do not have a will but were hoping to simply type out a form, sign it, and have it noterized. If any one has any information regarding this issue I would really appreciate it. We are trying to avoid going through an attorney.

I work from home as a stay at home daycare provider and I love it :) Very ligit there ~

RobinG - 1164 days ago.
My boys drank about 4-5.5 oz every 2.5 - 3 hours at 6 weeks :) Hope that helps ~ I usually made a 6 oz bottle and there would be a an oz to just a bit left in it like half an oz. It fluctuated some but thats normal.

lisalovesturtle - 1164 days ago.
My son will be 6 weeks old tomorrow, 12/11 could anyone with an infant about the same age tell me about how much formula at a time and how often they are eating. I just want to compare. I know at some point they start eating more but how do I know when I need to be making his bottles bigger? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Ok, not really baby related, but sort of! I want to stay home to raise my little boy, but financially, I need to work. Does anyone have any LEGIT leads for working from home (I live in Canada)? Searching online just seems to lead to scams and 'get rich quick' junk. Please leave a message on my profile if you have any suggestions. Thanks!

My baby was born on Monday (Dec.1) & since Friday night he's been breathing kind of hard. He's making this panting sound. I dont know if he's always been breathing like that because I've been on all type of pain medicine since last Sunday, so this pass week has been a little blurry for me. (I had a c-section that's why I've been on alot of medication. Could he have a cold or something? Why is he breathing like that? Any replies would be great...thanks! :-D

Sadly allergy testing isnt accurate til they are two years old which is why they are never done on infants. The only way to know is to eliminate the milk and see how he is two weeks or so. Baby acne is very common but on the entire body sounds a bit more like a reaction. I wouldnt use goats milk til a year old if you do go with it since they need the added nutrients and vits in formula or breast milk. Personally I would just try soy and give it two weeks to rule in or out the milk allergy then go from there. ((())) Stools can vary, my LO's always did too when they got constipated I gave karo syrup for those times. Soy can cause a bit of constipation so I would watch for it. I would ask them to check for blood in the stool with this test they can do. My son had it done, they swab the stool and put it on a paper and it reads blood if there. That will show if blood is there and confirm it came from upper intestines which will confirm an allergy too that is effecting the digestive system ~ it is invisible or sometimes seen as dark streaks in stool. Not always seen though. And there is a difference between straining to poo blood and digestive blood ~(()) My son was allergic to soy so we used alimentum and it helped him :)

There unfortunately are not good tests to know about the dairy allergies. They did do the test on my older son (at 1 yr old) and it said he had a slight allergy (he was a 5 if 4 was the cut off of no allergy) but by his reaction to dairy, the doc said he would have expected a 7 to 9. (i am making up numbers, don't go by those, i can't remember the numbers he used). The test might show the allergy but it can give a false negative also. So it isn't always worth doing. The best way to tell in such a small baby is by doing what Robin said and cutting out what you think the problem is. You need to give it at least 2 weeks. If it is an allergy the protein can build in their system and take some time to flush out. You should however see an improvement after 2 weeks. If you do, give it more time and you may see a 'recovery' completely.

petersonj - 1169 days ago.
Thanks guys!! I started getting concerned at about 4 months because he went from being the perfect baby to being fussy all the time, not just fussy but so restless and gassy. One day he'll he constipated the next have the runs. When I started to get a little concerned he developed eczema on his face and elbows and knees, the doctor told me that it's so common for babys to get eczema and to just put cortizone cream on it daily (which I will not do). He isn't a pukey baby but I've researched milk allergies and babies can react differently, some vomit and have diarrhia and others get rashes and eczema. I just think that they could order a simple test and let me sleep. I just want to know. Also I do value what the naturopath says but she said to go on goats milk and I'm not going to do that until my son has a really good diet built up. The nurse told me that there weren't good tests to see if they are allergic to milk protein but I'm not sure. She also told me that he's just teething and laughed and said that it's a difficult time...I must of had stupid written on my forehead when I walked in.

RobinG - 1169 days ago.
Milk allergies are very common, what are the symptoms you told your doc? Spitting up with every feed is typically a symptom or blood in the stool not related to constipation. Soy is best for milk allergies because it is the only formula with no milk in it. The only way to know if soy is also a concern is to remove all milk and try soy for 2 weeks. (takes two weeks to know if a change has helped.) You will not know if soy or the milk is the exact concern without elimination of one so unsure how they were able to tell you what was the culprit. My first had milk sensitivty and 3rd had soy allergy. My 2nd a valve issue, lol. Spit up can also be air bubbles from powder milk or over burping or a valve issue or reflux. (in that case Enfamil AR helps) Reflux can be control or helped using different methods or meds, milk allergy will have spit up or other concerns no matter what you do til milk is removed or Allimentum/nutramgien is given with smaller milk proteins.

peter - my older son had a milk allergy. He was put on soy formula (b/c i thought it was a breast milk prob at first). My son at first was gassy, uncomfortable, and seemed to have colic. After the milk protien built up in his system (after a couple weeks) he started to spit up/vomit a lot. Not just when he ate drank milk but anytime he ate b/c the milk was upsetting his stomach so much that any food made him ill. This started at birth. We tried dairy again around a year old and the same things were happening so we stopped dairy again and he was fine. We re-introduced dairy at 2 and half and he was fine. So now at 3 and half, he eats and drinks dairy fine. The good thing about a young dairy allergy, they tend to grow out of it. Now it is very common for a baby to have a dairy intolerance which is different than an allergy. If it is just an intolerance then a formula like gentle ease can work b/c it breaks down the milk protein more and makes it easier to digest and that is all they need. But if it is an allergy only soy formula has NO milk protein, there is a formula alltrimin (spelling?) made by similac that is made for a child with a dairy allergy and a soy allergy. It contains both dairy and soy but the proteins are so broken down that is usually good for those situations. Oh and i would seriously reconsider which doc you take your child too if they don't take your concerns seriously. You are with your child every day not them.

Does anyone's baby have a milk allergy? I think mine does and I went to the doctor yesterday and they pretty much laughed at me and told me that my sons stomach isn't bothering him (because they would know). I went to the naturopath and they said he did to cows milk and has a sensitivity to soy as well but I just wanted to get it confirmed by my family doctor so they can help me find a different kind of formula. I just wanted to know if anyone else's baby had a milk allergy and what their symptons were. Thanks!!

xGemx - 1169 days ago.
RobinG - Thanks for that, i've never heard of that stuff before. My son seems to be a bit better today and has started taking a bit of his milk so I will cut down and go back to his normal amount of water/juice
