My son was sick around that age, they suggested I give pedialyte because it has the accurate balance of electrolites a baby needs. It can be given for 24 hours when no milk is being drank. If your LO isnt taking any milk I wouldnt give juice and water, I'd give pedialyte. I dont think the water and juice alone would be healthy ((()))

I'm a bit worried and confused now i've read that story. My son has a chest infection at the moment and has been refusing milk so he's been having about 14oz of very diluted juice throughout the day, he's 9 months old and my doctor said to give him lots of fluid so is this ok?? Is it just diluting milk too much that is dangerous? My son normally only drink 6oz of juice along with 3 bottles of milk a day but he is hating milk at the moment and juice is all he will drink.

Robin I heard about that story this morning on the local news! So scary. What amazed me was just yesterday a friend of mine that is pregnant for the first time, asked how much water she should give the baby on top of breast feeding/bottle feeding! I can't believe docs aren't more specific in telling parents about that. I remember specifically asking my doc about it when my 1st son was born!

Another reason why it is so dangerous to give infants water ~ this poor baby almost died from water intoxication by watering down the formula. http://www.tampabay.com/news/health/article922584.ece Pediatrician on news said babies shouldnt have added water til 10 months. An unbalance of water to milk will cause water intoxication sadly ~ (()) Clearly she was desperate and made a horrible choice, thankfully he is hoepfully going to be ok for the most part. Docs recommend IF water is given no more then an oz a day per age/month. Per 8 oz of a regular made bottle/ formula amount he was getting 12 oz of water. An added 4 oz of water. Water is very dangerous for babies, it wasnt long ago that it was norm to give it but it it is discouraged now (())

If anyone is from Ontario Canada and delivered at either the Oshawa hospital or the Peterborough hospital can you comment on my profile about what it was like...what kind of things they had in the room and so on....what I should bring with me....My town hospital is too small to accommodate me they said. I still go there for my checkups but I need to pick either Oshawa or peterbrough and I wanted to hear what each hospital has since neither website tells me much at all.

I agree wiht RobinG I would hold off on the rice cereal. I have a baby that likes to eat also. At 6 weeks he was eating 6 oz every 2 hours. It did get better at night. I didn't give him solids until he was 5 months and he didn't care for it and was spitting it out so I waited untill 6 months.

((())) Before doing that (it never worked for me, my boys still woke the same) try the top if off method ~ I found it worked great with Hunter. There are two ways to do it, give him an 8 oz bottle at bedtime/late bottle instead of six or An hour after his 6 oz bedtime bottle or late evening bottle make 3 or so more oz and feed him. This always worked with my boys :) It tops them off to aid in holding them through a bit longer. If 6 oz isnt holding them add more oz and see how muchhe eats, he may finish it or drink more which should help some :) Cereal is unsafe IMO (docs suggest holdng off 4-6 months before giving any cereal, very different from how it was not long ago so best to not go by what our 'moms or others did' ~ only when there is reflux is a doc suggesting it sooner. If you feel you need the cereal try the enfamil AR instead, it has added rice starch and is safe for babies from the start. (((()))) Hugs, it does get better ~

Jesse will be 6 weeks on Wednesday! the boy is an eating machine! He was right about 6 lbs last check and he is eating 6oz every 3hrs! it's crazy and I'm overly exhausted and have no clue how (when I get a job) I will be able to handle it. After being up an hour with him eating and changing him I get about 2 hours sleep and then he's up to eat again! I have had numerous people say put a tsp of rice in the bottle and see if it helps. I have put it off up until today. I figure I will give it a try at his 12 o'clock bottle. He just ate 6oz at 9 and stayed up for a little bit and is now sleeping. He stays up alot more in the afternoon then he ever did. Almost 4 hours!! but he is so fussy b/c he's hungry. I have been doing 5oz every3 hours and yesterday he cried so much I finally gave up and gave him the extra ounce and he was so happy after that. He's been on 6oz ever since. No spit up or anything! I dont get how he can be so small and eat so much! The binkie helps him but if he's hungry he wants no parts of it! Do you guys thinks its ok and what do you think about the rice cereal? my doctor said that he wont overeat, but damn! LOL, I didnt ask about the rice cause of course most doctors say no way till 3 months but I dont know what else to do. I want him to be satisfied.

((((((((((((()))))))))))))) I am SO sorry for your loss ~ My heart just breaks for you ((((hugs)))) Please allow yourself to grieve and heal, dont try to try to just go on, move on or try to be as normal as possible today ~ you have every right to not do that right now ~ coming from someone who lost a mom to cancer, a stepdad to cancer and 3 sisters with aggressive cancer it is DEF ok to not do those things right away, grieving is part of the process. If you dont want to get out you dont have to, this just happened and doing what helps you most right now is best ~ not what others feel you need or should do to help you cope. There are wonderful support groups from SIDS and some here too, there are def places to go for support and help (((((()))))) big hugs ~ I am so sorry, know your little angel is with you always ~i~

I lost my baby yesterday to what i have been told is most likely SIDS since he was a healthy baby. i do not understand and i know what it is but I just don't understand how it happened. i have forced myself out of the house today and to try and continue as normal but it is not working. I feel like i cannot go for help anywhere but somehow i think there is comfort in knowing people you dont even know will talk to you and help. Please help

izzie - A heart murmur can be caused by different things. I have a genitic heart murmur caused by a small whole in my heart in the muscle between the 2 lower chambers of my heart. I am lucky and other than having to take antibiotics before dental appts and getting it checked about every 2 to 5 years (depending on which doc you ask) it has never effected my daily life. Now i have twin cousins who both had murmurs that need operations within hours of being born. They are both fine now at 16. I am sure if was that serious, 1. you would know and 2. the docs would have rushed tests and other things. Most murmurs are not serious but need to be monitored to make sure that they don't grow and/or get infected. Though with that said, I would definatly be calling the doc and attempt to move things along a bit faster.

It depends ~ some are some arent, many babies are born with them and most close within a couple months. Some are not a cncern at all ~ my son has one, had it since birth ~ he's 13 now and he has no complications from it, never needed monitoring ~ they are watching it now that he is older but it is non life threatening ~ call your doc and ask them to confirm what type it is :) ((())) hugs ~

Robin - when I was little I had sevearl EEGs - I wasn't an infant, though, I was about 5 when I had my first one. I had seisures due to the myalin on my brain's nerve endings not being fully developed yet. Any way, the EEG is painless. They use this weird 'gum/paste' stuff to attach electrode readers to the scalp. I would lay on a hospital bed in a darkened room, and they flashed lights in different colors at my face to read the brain activity.. of course this was 25 years ago.. but I can't imagine it's too different! Either way, it was completely painless. Hope that helps!
