My 1yr old has Chronic Neutropenia. I'm just wondering if there is anyone out there dealing with the same thing. It's a pretty rare disorder but I was just hoping I could find someone to compare notes with.

Brodys Mommy - It's done at a year. There are plenty of shots the first year. I'm happy to say that Kekoa only has one shot next month and no more until 4 yrs, which I think might be an MMR booster. I forgot which one he needs next month. If it is given earlier then a year then the one that people are afraid of is the booster at 1 yr.

I did some research on the MMR shot and the CDC says there's no link between the shot and autism. Well I was looking over my son's shot records and I guess when he was 2 months he DIDNT get the MMR shot. At what age do they get the MMR shot? My son has to get his 4 month shots today. Does that mean he's going to get the MMR shot today? I personally dont think there's anything to worry about with the MMR shot...but that's just my opinion.

doodlebug- it isnt mandatory, but there is a paper you have to sign saying you declined it. i signed the paper. i didnt want forest to have to go through anything else, i feel that birth is stressful enough for him, he didnt need such harsh substances put into him right then.

I agree with you Bri & Robin....it's just that like when I was pregnant, if something was going to 'go wrong' it was going to do so...but I still avoided doing anything that could cause problems as I wanted to be able to go to bed every night knowing that I did everything I could do to avoid causing any problems. I am going to have him vaccinated with the MMR, I am just going to wait on that one. :)

While on the Immunization topic. My LOs were done on 4-2-09 and I didn't want her to have the Hep done so early and the Doctor told me that it was mandatory and I would need a legal document to be able to skip it. So I got scared that I would get in trouble if I said no, so she got it anyway. But I thought it should be your choice to decide what you want for your child.

Amen Bri ~ I also believe that if one does have sudden onset of issues it is because of being predisposed to something and the shot only brought out what was already there. As most know my family has the genetic mutation gene BRCA-1 so sadly we've learned so much about how genetics play a roll in SO many illnesses. My son is mildly autistic, has ASD, and I dont in any way shape or form feel it was from any vacs.

I know I will get plenty of reaction from this comment but....there have been studies after studies and there have been no links to the MMR shot. There is a correlation because of the time frame of when the shot is given and disorders appear but nothing that can say causation. That being said, wait as long as you want for it. Doctors should be ok with you waiting.

thank you..I know it will cause some uproar if he has to go into childcare at some point (which I am trying to avoid personally) but I am just really concerned about the MMR...I am going to bypass it for now. Thank you again!! :)

tonysmommy - There is a lot of controversy over the MMR. I personally had no problems. We did give it to my son late because he was sick. Most doctors will advise you to give it but if you don't want to then just tell them that you don't want to. Be aware that many things like daycare and school will require these shots to be completed.

yes!! you can say NO to whatever you want!! i skipped my sons vacs at his 2 months and then only got 2 shots at his 4 month. i am taking it sloooooooow...

HELP!! My son is scheduled for his 1 yr check up tomorrow, we have given him all of his vaccinations to date. I am REALLY not wanting to give his MMR...what do you all think? Advice on how to tell my doc? Do I just say 'no' to the MMR?? Thank you!!!

Welp, Ian is a week old today...wow already a week..he has already changed so much in such a short time...He is almost sleeping through the night...wakes up once for a diappie and food but I have actually gotten a bit of sleep..my lack of sleep is my own fear really..new mom jitters. I am still recovering from the C-section..still in quite a bit of pain mainly on the right but the insion is healing very well. Hope all you other new mommy's are doing well and those of you still preggo...good luck..I will be checking back from time to time. DulcianasMom - Mine LO does this to only he make a squeeky mouse sound, he does wake up a short time after but I asked his doc at his follow up after birth appt..he wasn't concerned...not sure what it is..if you find out anything new let me know I am curious of this too.

I have a question for you ladies, need some advice.... My second is about 3 weeks old now and she breastfeeds about every 2-3 hours. She is having more periods of awakeness during the day. At night-time, i try to mimick my oldest daughters sleep routine, bathtime, quiettime and then off to bed. I will feed my littlest just before i put her down in our room in the bassinet and keep it dark, quiet with a fan going for 'whitenoise' and check on her every so often. This issue that i'm having is she is 'sleeping' or so it seems but she makes these weird 'animal' like noises. The closest thing i can relate it to is it sounds like a pig! She does these noises throughout the day but at night, not only am i not getting sleep due to the 2-3hour feedings but also cause she lays in her bassinet and 'grunts' . Has any of your children ever done this? I cant seem to remember my firstborn doing this. She is 3.5 years older and my memory is kinda hazy on how she used to be. I swear that the baby is doing this cause she is just hungry and that is her way of 'waking' up to feed. I make sure to swaddle her and keep her dry and comfortable but nothing seems to quiet her down. ALso, i will feed her and then it seems like an hour to hour and a half later she is making the noises again. Like she is getting hungry again! Any suggestions or advise or comments would be appreciated:)

Well, he slept in our bed last night...not a peep out of him from 9 pm - 6 am. It was awesome! I guess we will just use the crib for naps during the day for now and maybe someday he will be in his crib. :)

Good Luck! I'm not one to talk. Kekoa was in his own bed around Thanksgiving which meant he was a little over two weeks. But...bed sharing works well with lots of families. The family bed is recommended by lots of doctors as well. If your family works well with a family bed then do it. So what what others say....it's your baby, your bed.

Thanks ladies. He does have a blankie that has taggies all over it, but like you said, it is not the same. :( He also has a pacifier, he has no problem finding that! I'm really thinking it also has something to do with the fact that we just started putting him in his crib...I know, shame on us, but he has slept with us since birth...there were a few months where he was sleeping in his crib, but once he really started teething, he slept much better in bed with us again. I felt pressured to get him to start sleeping in his crib soon, so we put it in our room and have started to re-introduce it. He does fine for naps, but night time, oh my goodness. It is awful. We can get him down fine, but the deal with the blanket makes it impossible to sleep. I put him in our bed tonight, as a 'test' to see if that is adding to the blankie problem. I will let you know how it goes in the morning! Have a good night! Hoping for some sleep!! :)

Tonysmommy - I know the feeling. Kekoa loves his tag. It's funny, it gets stained and nasty. I have to wash his blanket several times a week. He got a Taggie Ball for his birthday but it's not the same. I know this sounds depressing right now but he will learn to find it on his own. It's like babies and their binkies. My son is almost 17months and knows where his blanket is at all times and can find his tag within seconds.

maybe you could buy him a blanket that has tags all over it.. Jon&Kate+8 call them 'Chewies'... not sure where you can find them but its just a blanket with tag loops all down the sides.

Ok, I'm hoping someone here has an idea...my son is just days from turning 1. He has slept with a blanket for a long time now. He has been sleeping through the night for a few months now, which has been wonderful! Up until a few nights ago...he has started waking up looking for a tag on his blanket...you know, it's like a shirt tag, on the edge of the blankets? He cries until he finds it, then starts to go back to sleep, but as soon as he relaxes he loses the tag and wakes again, crying!! This goes on for hours!! I'm thinking of just cutting the tags off his blankets...(I have made sure these tags are sewn on very well, so there is no chance they will rip off and pose as a choking hazard). What do you all think??

Thanks Bri. As much as I didn't want to, I bought arm and hammer with peroxide toothpaste and took a little tinny tiny piece of the paste and scrub her top teeth. It came right off. Couldn't even tell that there was anything wrong before, her teeth are perfect color now. Maybe she ate something and her baby toothpaste did not work to get it off. I am so relieved.. Thanks again.

Grey teeth can also be from iron supplement.. usually given in a liquid vitamin form according to my 'What to expect the first year' book. Some formulas are high in iron and can also cause discoloration.. so maybe if your formula feeding or giving a liquid vitamin.. that could be causing her teeth to look grey.

MommytoNatalie - Actually most doctors recommend going to the dentist once several teeth have come in. From what I've read the gray stains could be several things but most common are 1. some sort of trama to the teeth or 2. a filmy layer of skin that didn't break off. From what I've read you could use a blunted tooth pick and baking soda to firmly scrape it away without hurting baby's gums. I'm not sure if I would do this. If in your shoes I would call a ped dentist if your family dentist doesn't deal with infants and toddlers. They will do about the same but more like when we get our teeth clean. I wouldn't worry too much but I'd go in to see.
