my 4 year old boy gets ballonitis at least once a month, his penis becomes sore and swallen and a yellow discharge comes out from between the glan and the foreskin, my doctor says that I should treat him every time it happens with dactakort ointment (which actually works) and that I shouldn't pull back his foreskin to clean his penis till he is 5 years old. I am worried that these infections could build up to something really serious, can anyone help please? I was also told to pull his foreskin back gently and wash his penis in warm water everyday. Is that helpful?

**this is from above** 'If your baby boy is not circumcised, the only care it will require during infancy is soap and water as the rest of the body is being washed. It is unnecessary, painful and dangerous to try to forcibly retract the foreskin or clean under it with cotton swabs. You should only do this once the boy is old enough and the foreskin has separated from the glans.'

if it is not circ DO NOT PULL BACK EVER!! this can cause *permanemt* damage to the penis. it may require surgery later, if you mess things up by pulling. they are VERY easy to care for since you dont have to pull back. i just wipe my sons with a baby wipe every time i change his diaper (pee and poo diapers) and then wash it at bath time with babysoap and water. you dont have to pull back, if you do this it will stay clean as it is. when he is an older child the skin will start to be able to come back, and you will then just have to explain that when he freely pulls back they need to start doing that to wash.

is he circ'd or not? Pull back loose skin a tiny bit(after it is FULLY healed) if circ'd..... dont pull back if not..that is what I was always told and know others to do ~ that is how all my boys were cared for after their circ.

ok... so confused... we have a 12 month old boy. in pre-natal class we were told not to pull back the foreskin. so we didnt. went to the immunizations at the health clinic (same place we got pre-natal classes) and the nurse told us to regularly pull back the foreskin at bathtime and clean to prevent yeast and other infections. and she noted that she will quiz the pre-natal nurse instructors. everyone says different things. my bf did the dirty work of pulling back the foreskin and cleaning and our son didnt cry or seem to notice what he was doin. should we carry on and clean a few times a week, or leave it alone?

Oh ok well thanks anyway!

happyforest - 1122 days ago.
there is not just one reason to get it done. it is different for everyone. unfortunatly we dont have a forum to talk about this, only one to discuss care. so in those terms, some people believe it will be easier to care for, but really as long as you keep it clean either way there shouldnt be a problem. my son is not circ, and we have had no problems. i just wipe it with a baby wipe after every diaper change and at bath time i just clean with baby soap and water. also, i dont pull back on the skin, and no one ever should pull back.

Sorry kungfu-ronin this forum can only be used to discuss the treatment of a circ'd or uncirc'd baby boy and not for duscussing benefits of the procedure or why we did or didnt. (()) I will say that all my boys are done. And in the time I've been on this site it seems it really does vary based on where you are from. (This sites has moms from all over the world) Although it seems every town has boys who are and are not depending on where you live it may be more common or far less common. Where I live it is most common. It is a very personal choice and one only YOU and your SO can make ~ I'm sorry but we are not able to answer your question or discuss the reasons to or not to do it (())

I am pregnant and do not know what the sex is yet for this baby but i have a question. What is the reason to get your son circumcised? I am trying to find out more about it and everyone i talked to says to get it done but is it for 'cosmetic' reasons only? ( i dont know what other word to use lol) it doesnt matter i just want to know because i am sooo curious and cant seem to geet a straight answer anwhere about this subject. . thanks in advance ladies!

pregnantladi - don't pull the foreskin back for any reason whatsoever. I have a 2 year old boy, he was complaining of a sore penis. I took him to the gp and she said it was a bit of thrush. She told me to pull the foreskin back and apply an antifungal cream. I knew you mustn't pull it back, but thought that she would know best being a doctor. He ended up with a big lump on one side of his penis, all red and swollen - called ballonitis. It is infection of the foreskin. He had to have oral antibiotics..... So don't ever pull it back....

OMG I so confused.... I have just found out im expecting a boy. This is my second child and already have a girl. This was my biggest worry with having a boy, how to wash him properly, now do you pull or dont you pull????

rorylex2008 - 1157 days ago.
all 3 of my boys were circumcised at 3weeks old and i didnt need to use vaseline or gause or a 2nd nappy and i could bath him the same that i had b4 it and i have never pulled back anything there was never anything to pull back, maybe my boys were done a different way. they were given a local and then a plastic ring was inserted into foreskin and then a elastic band was tied on the ring right at the bottem of the forskin then the skin was just snipped off. and took 5 - 10days to heal on its own. there was no screaming from any of them and they were happy to chat and smile at the nurse.

I took my son Zack to see his pediatrician for his 6 month wellness visit, and mentioned that he lacked pressure when he urinates. Every baby boy I've ever seen could hit you in the face with his stream if he let loose while you changed them, but not Zack. She thought it might indicate a narrow urethra and said she'd take a look. Anyway, the next thing I know Zack's screaming in pain... I look down, and his penis tip is bloody. She had pulled the skin back to have a look. I was very disturbed by this. She told me to put Polysporin on the tip for a few days and it would be fine. It seemed fine again in a couple of days. But I wonder, if it's not meant to be pulled back until they're older, what does it mean for my son now that his has been?? Do I have to care for it differently? The doctor didn't instruct me on this. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

Uncirc'd dont get pulled back but cric'd does once healed to clean and to prevent reattachment ~ the pulling back and not pulling back differs from circ'd and uncirc'd. We began pulling back gently after a week once they were healed and it went perfectly :)

my son IS circumcised and we were only told to put vaseline on gauze and put it on the tip then at his one month our pedi looked at it and asked if we were pulling it back everytime we changed it we didnt know u had to so dereks actually started growing back over!
