mg5- I cover up in public just because there are so many pervs other wise i wouldnt because my lo hates being covered i dont blame her would u want a blanket on ur head when eating, but i think its perfectly fine to not ware a cover if thats what your comfortable with i dont cover up around friends ect...its pisses me off when people make comments about bf in public, because either they 1. dont have kids, or 2. never bf before. like you said would you rather hear a screaming baby . you dont ask her to go eat her food in the car, or bathroom ect. Its natural its how babies were made to eat, and you never know when your baby will be hungry, i always feed my baby before we go somewhere, but sometimes she decides she wants to eat. thats what babies do, you feed on demand when you bf. People make such an issue of bf in public, when you have girls walking around with their boobs and asses hanging out and no one has a problem with that...try and feed your child and holy crap!

MG5 - 344 days ago.
Yeah, that's what I said. I wouldn't ever just whip out a boobie with no cover up. Lol But I guess what really got me was the fact that she said that Nursing mother should go to their cars, and that It's impersonal for that type of interaction in public between a mother and child. I guess because I'm still breastfeeding and now just introduced solids, I kinda pulls at my heartstrings. I'm gonna miss the interaction with my baby when she's weaned. Even the times we were out in public freaking people out cause she was eating...with a cover of course. Haha Anyways. Thanks again for the vent. :)

*Shelli* - 344 days ago.
***MG5*** I am pro breast feeding in public when there is discretion. Only a few times have I been caught off guard. And those times were when there was no modesty involved. No nursing cover or blanket. Its just not something you expect when your grocery shopping and round the corner and a woman literally has her boob out, baby not even latched. Just sitting in her lap staring at it. (She was in a motorized wheelchair). Times like that I feel it is inappropriate. Others may feel different, but thats my opinion.

MG5 - 344 days ago.
Okay I need to vent! I just got into a debate (unintentionally) with some young crazy women knocking breastfeeding in public. She said that they went out to eat, and one booth over, a omen pulled out her boob and started breastfeeding her 15month old ( she thinks, at least a 1yr old). All I said was that I'm pro breastfeeding out in public, but with some discresion as in a nursing cover or light blanket. She went off saying that it's weird, that women should go out around their babies schedule, and that it's impersonal with the baby to feed in public. REALLY?? Really? So then I told her in my opinion, it has nothing to do with being impersonal. It has to do with baby's hungry, feed the baby, Or else have the screaming baby at the next table instead of seeing boobie. Haha Then, top it off, she had the nerve to say that if that is the case, that a nursing mother should go to her car. OBVIOUSLY this women either doesnt have kids, has only one kid and schedules EVERYTHING according to this childs schedule, or never breastfed a baby long enough to understand. Thank you for letting me vent. There were alot more things that I wanted to tell her, but I tried to be as nice as I could without letting her have it! Anyways, what do y'all think?

I LOVE my Medela Pump in Style, I highly recommend it!! Babies R US and Target sell them I know for sure.

dominique23 - 344 days ago.
O and target sells a good selection. or amazon is a good place too.

dominique23 - 344 days ago.
I first started using a Lansinoh double electric, then got a medela in style , which i like soo much better, i get so much more out in half the time than i did the lansinoh. and i get more out. I would highly recommend medela pumps.

angelle1971 - 345 days ago.
Thanks Ladies I appreciate it!!! :)

Krystaldawn - 345 days ago.
I bought the Lansinoh double electric. I used it with my 2nd which is now 3 and I am using it for my 6 month old. I love it!! It is at walmart

jenlynnp - 345 days ago.
angelle1971 - I bought the Lansanoh one from Walmart for about 50.00. it works great for me I have been pumping and feeding for 5 months. However lots of women have trouble pumping so if you decide to pump do it first thing in the morning and then after each feeding to keep up wiht your milk and to get more milk. If you pump first thing you will get the most milk you will all day. good luck!

angelle1971 - 345 days ago.
Hey Ladies...question for the Pro-Breastfeeders...What kind of pump should I get and where do I get it??? I'm sooo clueless because first time even thinking of breastfeeding. Thanks

shiz - 345 days ago.
Krystaldawn-mine started basically that way. Theres no telling its acutally coming until it makes it appearance. But a few days before mine arrives i have those same symptoms so it might be. But just be on the lookout just to be safe!

Krystaldawn - 346 days ago.
charmed...hopefully i dont have to deal with this for 3 months!! lol

charmedby3 - 346 days ago.
Krystaldawn, it could be AF coming, or you could be pregnant. Or it could be your body just trying to get back on track. I had symptoms of a period once a month for 3 months before AF actually arrived.

Krystaldawn - 346 days ago.
Ugh! I don't know what's going on with me!! my baby is 6 months and I breastfeeed. I have not had a period yet and a couple days ago my nipples became so sore and sensitive I can't hardly touch them and today I started having some cramps...am I going to start my period? Has this happned to any of you?

smmiracle822 - 348 days ago.
Letty-I would highly recommend getting a nipple shield my son will be 2 weeks old tomorrow. He latched on great in the hospital but once I got home he wouldn't. I met with a lactation consultant and he latched on right away and ever time since with no problems. Lactation nurses are very helpful, I would recommend seeing one. They will help you out. For now I have to also pump for 10 minutes after each feeding and feed him 1 oz from the bottle to be sure he is gaining enough weight. The lactation nurse will also help you with what size of nipple shield you need so it fits properly you can get them at like home health stores. If it doesn't fit properly it can make it more difficult.

hannahmumof3 - 348 days ago.
Letty, there is a facebook group called, The Leaky b@@b, they are full of great advise and support for breast feeding mummies. Have a look. They were really supportive for me when I thought my milk was drying up and got me through it!! Good luck, keep trying and stop the bottles.

mizrice88 - 348 days ago.
Letty I had the same problems, you can tickle his lips or use your finger on the side of his mouth. Pinch your breast right around the outside of your areola and when he opens push as much as you can in and when you do make sure the way your pinching is the same way his mouth is once you get it in let go they will move there head so they can breath you cpan also look into getting a SNS for the time being to help if you can get him to somewhat latch on so you don't have to use a bottle and get nipple confusion. You want your nipple to actually go to the back per my lactation speciaist. Try different postions. I lay my daughter on a regular pillow on my lap. If you want you can add me on facebook so I can tell you more about the sns or call me. My name is Ashlee Hodel and my phone number is in my info on there. Hope this helps hang in there.

charmedby3 - 348 days ago.
letty, to get the baby to latch properly tickle his upper lip with your nipple. When his mouth is open REALLY wide, pop the nipple in. Aim for the ROOF of his mouth, NOT for the back. He should have a good mouthful, with his chin and the tip of his nose touching the breast. Try to nurse him BEFORE he gets too hungry, so that he is not screaming and really hungry, that way he will be more receptive to the boob. If he doesn't get the latch right, take him off and try again. How often are you feeding him? It is very common for breast fed babies to want to nurse every 2 hours, sometimes as often as every hour. It doesn't mean they're not getting enough, breastmilk just digests faster than formula, because it's not full of empty calories and fillers. Make sure you are either pumping or nursing directly from the breast at least every 2-3 hours, preferably every 2 hours. Good luck!

letty005 - 348 days ago.
My milk supply is deffenetelly there. They are pretty much leaking on their own. I think he is confused with the bottle. My breast really hurt too. Is it bad to wake him up to eat. I was thinking maybe if i wake him up before hes actually hungry maybe he will latch. He was doing so good yesterday.

dominique23 - 349 days ago.
letty005- and has your milk come in?? or is it just colostrum? it does take some time for your body to respond to a pump sometimes. and what i did with my daughter was attempt to nurse her usually a session would last an hour getting her on, then keeping her on and keeping her awake ! then i would pump after that each time until my supply built up, if your milk hasnt come its good to try and pump every hour for 10-15 , if it is in pump every 2-3hrs. pretty much you might as well not ware a shirt lol.

dominique23 - 349 days ago.
letty005 - If you can i would stop with the bottle feedings, and if he isnt latching, use a syringe to feed him, it could be causing him nipple confusion. i had a really hard time getting my daughter to latch too at first, just get him on your boob as much as possible, you can try nipple shields to help latch better, you can buy them at target, toys r us, babies r us, they are bout 7-10 dollars. I would get a hold of a laction nurse from the hospital asap! and find a support group , usually the hospital has a free one they really help. dont give up! its really hard the first few weeks, you both have to learn how. soon it will be a piece of cake! hang in there

letty005 - 349 days ago.
Hi, ladies. I am new to this breastfeeding journey. I have 6 kids and never breastfed any of the last 5 because i simply dont know how. Well i just had a baby 4 days ago and am really trying to breastfeed him. He is getting fustrated because he cant latch on and i get fustrated because hes screaming cause hes hungry and end up bottle feeding him. I dont want to give up so today i have pumpped twice for him and i have noticed a big difference in the way he sleeps and poops. I dont know how to encourage him to latch on i have tried squising my nipple to get some milk out so he can taste it but he still cries. So i pump and between both breast have been getting a once only. How often do i need to pump to keep my milk suply going. Can someone help me please i really want to breastfeed him.

jbear, my son is nearly 13 months, and I went back to work when he was 11.5 months old. He now gets cows milk at daycare, and nurses at home. He nurses when I get home from work, before bed, 1-2 times at night, and in the morning before I go. He no longer nurses to sleep though. When he is done nursing I give him a soother, place him in his crib, and stand there with him until he falls asleep. I used to have to keep laying him down over and over, but now if he stands up he throws himself back down as soon as I reach to touch him. He doesn't stand up often anymore though :) It takes him 2-20 minutes to fall asleep, depending how tired he is. I would like him to sleep without me being in the room, but we just transitioned out of my bed, and being nursed to sleep a couple weeks ago, and he's not ready to go to sleep alone yet. He still comes into my bed between 1 and 3am as well, I'm hoping to eliminate that first night feeding sometime in the next month. I don't believe in CIO, but this has proved to be very effective, and very gentle, though it did require an awful lot of patience to get him to start going down in his crib.

HELLO, i sent you a message on your profile.... The main reason why i want to wean him is because i want to go back to work/school very soon! :) Yea i will give it a try, it can hurt nothing... but then i dont want him getting used to the rocking chair... haha, i would like to eventually just put him down and he would fall alseep!!
