Jerbear, That was what I wanted to do too.Wean her at 12 months old, and when I tried I learned very fast that she was not ready to be weaned..If you see my last post you will see that she is finaly not wanting it on her own.It started with night feedings she stoped waking up for it in the middle of the night about a week ago...Even kids that drink from a bottle dont get weaned from it till 1 year and a half...One thing that helped her go to sleep without it last night was being rocked to sleep by daddy..This did not work at 12 months when we tried it, but maybe it will help for you.....May I ask is there a mager reason that you want to wean the baby by 12 months?

shiz - 350 days ago.
felicia lopes-pump before bed, an hr before baby wakes, and pump an extra few minutes after your milk stops. Fermented oats, fenugreek, mothers milk tea, and/or a beer a night. I have found all these work for me when i'm in need. Pump after baby nurses each time. Within a couple days you should see an increase in 'pumping' supply. Time to time i have a short amount week (around that time of month) and i just have to increase my pumpings and eat some oatmeal and it helps boost my supply.

@ Luv2Bamama... Thank you for your advice I will try your suggestions. :)

mamadear04 - 350 days ago.
Hello ladys my little girl is now 17 months old and I have b/f her the whole time ..I thought I would never be able to wean her, but I am happy to report to you all that she went to bed last night without asking for it, she slept all night without it, she woke up this morning without wanting it, and now she just went out for a nap without asking for it..This is coming from the girl that 2 weeks ago she was wanting it 5 to 8 times a day..Sometimes even more..I didnt think it could be true , but I am seeing her wean herself...Also I am now 4 months pregnant and my milk dryed out like a week ago, but she would still want to sooth herself with it...I think im going to get a rest from is before I have this next baby..WOOOHOOO!!!!

Luv2Bamama - 350 days ago.
Felicia; a few things…your body produces more when the baby feeds from you than what you actually get from the pump, so you may not have low supply, just uncooperative pumping boobies. Also, as your body regulates over time, you may no longer feel “full” & hard like you did at the beginning of your breastfeeding relationship;. Maybe try to get up an hour before your child to pump since that is when you supply is at its largest, then when she gets up in the morning, she can still nurse, since your body will produce while she is actively sucking. Also, try pumping right before you go to bed, this way you can build up your freezer supply. Fortunatally, your child is getting closer to eating solids. I found that by 9/10 months old, my daughter went from drinking about 30 oz of BM down to about 20 to 25 oz. as her solid food intake increase so that omitted my need for one bottle. Congratulations on EBF! I know how hard it is to face the possibility of needing formula suppliments; we went through the same thing! Kids are pretty resilient, so if you do end up needing to suppliment don’t beat yourself up over it, you are doing the best you can! That being said, try compression pumping, manual expression, fenugreek, or old fashioned oatmeal. I also know women who swear by one dark beer a night to increase supply, but only if you know your baby is asleep for good few hours, and you won’t be pumping or nursing so the alcohol has time to metabolize out of your system. Good luck!!

felicia_lopes@yahoo.com - 350 days ago.
I have been pumping for my EBF 5 month old daughter so that when I start a new job soon she will still be just on breastmilk. I have noticed that I am not pumping out as much milk as I have before and I feel like I am not producing like I used to. I am worried that I may have to supplement her with formula when I am not around, Is there anyway to bring my supply back up? I have been pumping all throughout the day and breastfeeding my daughter when she wants it but I feel no difference nor do I see a difference. Does it just take time to build the supply back up and will my body get the hint to make more? I dont want her on formula at all so I would really appreciate some advice and tips from anyone who can help. Thanks

Luv2Bamama - 350 days ago.
TKP-I hear ya on the big milk makers, I am in a 34 I/J cup (I was a 34 G before getting pregnant). I am just hoping that once she is fully weaned they will shrink to something more manageable!

msbree - 351 days ago.
thanks everyone! really feel much better about feeding my son!

sagex2 - 351 days ago.
Why is it so hard to find a bra that fits great in a large size. Everything is backordered in a G cup. Ahhhhhhh

amorgan1129 - 351 days ago.
**msbree-it sounds like everything is going good, if he is staying satisfied and having wet/dirty diapers then you should be fine. Its scary having a baby for the first time let alone breastfeeding. And if your like me most of my family feeds with bottle/formula so I was definitely learning!!! LOL. With your LO eating like that my concern would be making sure my supply stayed up. If you are planning on going to work you could start pumping now and getting a jumpstart on having milk at home!! Good Luck!!

amorgan1129 - 351 days ago.
**crazyfornumber3-my dr increased my meds during my pregnancy but took them back down once I gave birth. I don't think passing the extra along is a problem. And as far as low milk, I haven't had any trouble. When I came back to work my supply went down a little but I started pumping more and it came back up. Also when I started Birth Control my supply went down so I stopped it, started pumping more and still going strong.

parkersmommy1 - 352 days ago.
msbree: my dd is a month and nurses for 10min, if that, and only on 1 side. I used a manual pump and pumped just during my letdown and got 2.5oz so i figured shes getting at least that. my son could nurse for hours so this is a nice change! also, she has gained 2lb since birth

dominique23 - 352 days ago.
msbree- every baby is different. there is no set amount of time a baby should nurse for. if he nurses for 10 min is happy then hes fine. he will show you if hes not getting enough, will cry, root around ect. and hes having enough wet and poopy diapers then your good. its hard at first to know if your baby is getting enough because you cant see it like you can in a bottle, but you have to learn to trust your body and your baby! you can always weigh ur baby before you feed and then after so u can see how much they took in i know that makes a lot of people feel better.

jenlynnp - 352 days ago.
msbree- my baby is four months and drinks for exactly 5 mins on one side every 2 hours and sleeps through the night.... and i love it that he eats fast :) feeding him a bottle takes like 20 mins he hardly gets bottles for that reason and his time beween feedings is the same either way.

msbree - 352 days ago.
hi... I have a question about breastfeeding. My son is 11 days old and, I am breastfeeding. The thing is, he only drinks about 10 minutes each feeding. His tool is okay and he pees average amount of time but, I was wondering if its a big problem? He drinks relativaley fast, sometimes he needs to let go cause he drinks so quickly. Im just not 100% if he's getting all he needs He sleeps well after feedings and everything seems fine but, Ive heard people tell me that he should drink 20 minutes on each side everytime. But, he doesn't do that at all. Was wondering if maybe there's a problem with that? If anyone knows. Im young and this is my first baby and, I'm new to all of this. Thanks.

I am at the moment TTC number 4 and i will definatly be breastfeeding when he or she comes along :)

crazyfornumber3 - 352 days ago.
amorgan..thanks. I herd that sometimes you can have low milk . I've had my meds increased by 50 mcg already and I'm only 10 weeks so I was wondering if after you have the baby is there any worry you may be getting too much and it can pass through the breast milk...?

Krystaldawn - My LO is 3 1/2 months and I have EBF and just started a bottle at night with alittle rice cereal and so my hubby can feed him.. He has no issues at all.. he is a chunker though and to him I think food is food LOL we are pretty lucky. amorgan1129 - 354 days ago.
Hello girls!!! I am excited to have found the breastfeeding forum on this sight. The week by week forums were so helpful while I was pregnant and I was actually feeling some withdraws!! I enjoy hearing from other women that are going the same experiences. Hope all is well with everyone!!

amorgan1129 - 354 days ago.
**Crazyfornumber3- I've had hypothyroidism for years and I have breastfed my son for 3 months now. Not sure if you were concerned with problems? But we have been doing fine. He was 7lbs12oz at birth and is now over 15lbs...I guess a little better than fine?!?! LOL Good Luck!!

Ready4No2 - 354 days ago.
Ashlercarter - your hair loss is likely a completely normal part of having given birth. The hormones while you're pregnant cause you to lose hardly any hair and then once you have your baby, after a couple months, you start to lose all that hair you didn't lose while you were pregnant. Very normal. It sucks but I don't think even vitamins will help. Just time.

ashleecarter - 354 days ago.
What are good vitamins to take while breastfeeding? My LO is 5 months old now and for the past month, my hair is been falling out like crazy! Not in clumps or anything but it's definitely a significant amount.

Did you know that Breast Milk kills over 40 types of cancer? A family member of mine has been diagnosed with Cancer, and after a lot of research, we are taking a leap of faith and I'm donating milk to the cause. Some interesting things - there is something in Breast Milk called HAMLET cells - these can be activated topically when mixed with some olive oil and applied to skin cancer. If you're interested in learning more about breast milk and cancer treatment here is a link to start from - http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/04/100419132403.htm you can also google the topic and learn a lot more! Wouldn't it be AMAZING if the cure for cancer has been with us all along? I'm praying that our addtional use of BM in conjunction with chemo and radiation will help kill this cancer (BM also helps good cells repair after treatement as well!).

Tunny904 - 354 days ago.
rachelz: I'm sure it's possible, I've heard of people relactating after much longer than you, so I'd say offer the breast and pump as much as possible...drink LOTS of water and eat more to get your supply up. Maybe google foods that boost your supply and eat those. Keep at it, I'm sure you can get your supply up!
