I have a book about what to expect during the first year of life since I'm still pregnant with my first and they gave pros and cons for both disposable and cloth diapers. It said that cloth diapers usually leak a lot and sometimes a waterproof pad has to be inserted on the inside. Is this true?

bumgenius 3.0 aio is what we use and we love them! they are very absorbent and fit our 1 1/2 month old daughter very well. we also have some thirsties aio but they run pretty big and don;t fit her very well, but they leak out the sides alot and we won't be spending any more of our money on them. We will be getting more BG aio though, definitely worth the money, cloth diapering was one of the best decisions we could've made for our daughter. I suggest getting a hemp doubler for nights though, if your baby is anything like ours she pees alot at night and before we started using the doublers at night she would leak, since we've been using them she hasn't leaked once though :)

Does know the best way to register for the Bum Genius AIO One Size? I found a few sites that do registrys but I wasn't sure how to choose and how that would go over for those buying from my registry. Should I just buy them myself and not register or mention them?

Everyone is sharing stories of how they love cloth diapering...is there any downfalls or things you don't like about CDing? Any body completly hate them or any horror stories?

JLea~ I have used all 3 pockets you mentioned, I would recomend FB one size, just because they are the only pocket with snaps. As conveiniant as aplix seems it does not hold up incredibly well over time. My daughter was just over a year old when I had to retire her BG 3.0's due to them falling off! I do love BG though and if you want to try the new AIO OS with snaps I recomend those highly! My daughter will be 2 years old tomorrow (sniff sniff) and still wears her BG's on the middle setting, though she is a bit slender. Remember, all diapers fit different babies differently, just like disposables where pampers will suit but not huggies and vice versa. So maybe only buy one brand at a time to ensure it works for you.

JLea- Personally, I really love the Fuzzi Bunz & Happy Heinys. But, I have only used the one size with both, they are what we use as well as prefolds & Thirstie Duo covers. I worked in a day care & several families used the Bum Genius one size, I didn't care for the sizing of them. They seemed to run much smaller than the others. :)

I'm pregnant with my first so I don't know from experience but my CD'ing friend loves Country Save and several others I know are loving Rockin Green. I've officially decided to use prefold primarily, but I'm trying to decide what pocket diapers I should invest in for outings and times when someone other than me will keep him. I've narrowed it down to Fuzzi Bunz, Happy Heiny, and BumGenius. Anyone have an opinion of which is best?

Lisa~ Check out this site, it is the best comparison chart with over 100 different detergents listed. From Tide to Surf to Charlies it is all on there EXCEPT for Rockin' Green and I am wondering if somehow they forgot to include the R's since it is alphabetical and there are no 'R' detergents on there.... http://www.pinstripesandpolkadots.com/detergentchoices.htm

So, I'm starting to research detergants, and can't find ANYTHING at any of my local grocery stores or Walmart. no free and clear in any brand name. So I took to shopping online and found this 'Rockin Green' detergent from the same place I buy my diapers. I checked the reviews on diaperpin.com, but they seem too good to be true. Seriously. Not one bad review, 5/5 ratings across the board. Has anyone here used this detergent, and is it really as good as they say??

JLea - I use several different types of diapers for my son. At different stages, we found different cloth worked. Right now, he is just 2 yrs. and 32lbs. We are using chinese prefolds & covers during the day, I also have some Fuzzi Bunz pockets I use, with one of the large size inserts that come w/ the diaper, if we are going out, etc, I will stuff it with two inserts. At night, I am using (and LOVE!!) Happy Heiny one size with a premium size chinese prefold folded a few times, and we have very rare leaks. He is a pretty heavy wetter & I had to try several different systems before we found what worked for us. A really good way to see what works for you is to check your consignment shops & there are some online sites where you can buy used diapers for pretty cheap prices! Let me know if you have any other questions!! :)

Do you ladies use the same type diaper for all times during the day? Same during the day and night? Do you just use doublers at night? Sorry, lots of questions but I'm trying to get all the info I can from people who actually cloth diaper!

Thanks to all of you who responded to my questions about cloth diapers. There are so many from which to choose! I appreciate your help. :)

CMDancer~ I highly recomend the Fuzzi Bunz one size and the Bum Genius one size AIO. I prefer snaps over aplix (the aplix tends to wear out and lose it's 'stickiness' and I didn't even use a drier, I line dried and they still wore out!). So if you need durability go for snap closures. The FB's are a pocket type diaper and dry very quickly, the BG's are all in one, so no stuffing or anything but has a longer drying time. Good Luck, I love cloth and now that we are having another it is great that we can just pass down the dipes from our daughter who will be 2 when this guy is born!

cmdancer - I use Gro Baby diapers and they are AWESOME. I highly, highly recommend them. You can buy them at thenaturalbabyco.com, along with a bunch of other great products they make. I use their laundry detergent, Tiny Bubbles; and they also have an all natural ointment stick called Magic Stick (cause you can't use regular diaper cream with cloth diapers!) On top of that, I have their pail liners and deodorizing discs. I bought two pail liners so that when it's laundry day, I just toss the diapers in the wash and toss the bag in with em...then put the other bag in the pail. And the deo discs are crazy good. I can't sing enough praises about The Natural Baby Company. Seriously, sometimes I feel like I should work for them, lol.

dancer- I use Fuzzi Bunz one size, snap version & Happy Heiney one size. They are awesome, the inserts work for both diapers. I'm not sure if you are into purchasing used cloth, but I have bought almost all of mine on Diaper Swappers, in excellent condition for AWESOME prices!! :) I've been CDing for almost 2 years now and LOVE it!

Can anyone advise me as to what some good, sturdy cloth brands are that offer one-size diapers? We plan on using them for two little ones and require diapers that are durable. Thanks so much!!!!

Seems all of my friends have this image of cloth diapering as what it was 20 years ago. One girl called me 'a brave soul'. One girl laughed and said 'that'll last about a week'. I keep telling them soooo much has changed, but they still think I'm insane to even try! I don't see how they think cloth diapering is so much harder than disposable! The OS pocket diapers are the SAME as disposables, when it comes to ease of use. I just have to wash mine...whoopdie doo. Like I won't be doing piles of laundry anyhow! only difference is, I'll have a fuller load! Uggh, so frustrating! I'm proud of what I'm doing for my baby and for the environment....don't think i deserve to be laughed at!!!!!

We have a discount cloth diaper store that carries name brand cloth diapers and accessories. We have Snap EZ, Fuzzi Bunz, Monkey Doodlez and more.
It is www.dapadiapers.com
We loved cloth so much we came up with an even more pocket friendly way for families to use cloth too.

I have had 12 fuzzibunz that have lasted 3yrs and still going. I had been using those along with disposables but when my second son was born i decided to try prefolds as well to increase my cloth stash. Prefolds are more time consuming to put on but with a good cover there will be NO leaks. They also wash better than fuzzibunz because theya re all cotton. I recently bought a couple bumgenius second hand and like those as well. I highly recommend either pocket diapers like FB or BG or prefolds (good ones, not cheapy ones).

OK, the Kushies review... They are HUGE. There is no way they would fit on a 10lb baby. There is no real way to size the dipes either. The infant size does fit my 21 lb 20 month old. There is no elastic in the back of the diaper, I cannot imagine newborn breast fed poos staying in. The outside is fairly soft, not as soft as BG or FB, but soft, not too plasticy. I wish I had spent my $50 on the econobums full kit. 3 covers and 12 pre-folds - very very nice system. I will not be buying kushies again.... I knew it was a risk since the reviews were so-so but I did not expect them to be that big, no elastic, and no real manner in which to size them down. My daughter will be able to use them for a little while but I am so Disapointed....

naunilee~ I like Bum Genius, Fuzzi Bunz and several others but if you want to save money in the long run I recomend those two brands. They both have one size options that will fit from about 10 lbs (it says eight on the packaging but it would have to be a very short n chunky 8lb baby) to 35 lbs. Kushies you would have to buy two different sizes so even though they are cheaper in the beginning in the long run they will cost more. I have been CDing my DD for over a year and love it, it is so nice to not have to buy diapers or wipes (I use cloth wipes) and know that we are doing something for the environment too. Now I am buying a few kushies to help my stash since I will have two in CDs at once. But my fav are def bum genius and fuzzi bunz for one size!

I'm really wanting to get back to cloth! All started with on our oldest was cloth but with his disabilities it got to a point that we gave up and used store bought with our daughter. Now we have a 14 month old and #4 will be here in March and it will be SO much cheaper to do cloth again, but we have an 8 and 7yr old and then the huge gap in ages so we didn't keep anything!

naunilee~ I will let you know next week, that is when mine should arrive. I will prob try them out on my DD since she is in the weight range though I bought them to bump up my stash for when my son is born.

Well, since I am having a boy in the end of May and my DD is still in her cloth diapers I am going to add a little to my stock. I have 20 mini OS diapers (only go to14 lbs start at 4lbs) but depending on how big this baby boy is.... So I decided to try some kushies. The reviews are mixed but they are pretty cheap so I got a five pack of the boys infant ultra lites.
