Premature baby story

What a tearjerker!

The smell of rain

At the end of this story, it gives you two options. I think you will figure out what option I chose.

A cold March wind danced around the dead of night in Dallasas the doctor walked into the small hospital room ofDiana Blessing. She was still groggy from surgery.

Her husband, David, held her hand as they braced themselves
for the latest news.
That afternoon of March 10, 1991, complications had forced
Diana, only 24-weeks pregnant, to undergo an emergencyCesarean to deliver couple's new daughter, Dana Lu Blessing.

At 12 inches long and weighing only one pound nine ounces,
they already knew she was perilously premature.

Still, the doctor's soft words dropped like bombs.

"There's only a 10-percent chance she will live through thenight, and even then, if by some slim chance she does makeit, her future could be a very cruel one"

Numb with disbelief, David and Diana listened as the doctordescribed the devastating problems Dana would likely faceif she survived.

She would never walk, she would never talk, she would
probably be blind, and she would certainly be prone toother catastrophic conditions from cerebral palsy tocomplete mental retardation, and on and on.

"No! No!" was all Diana could say.

She and David, with their 5-year-old son Dustin, had long
dreamed of the day they would have a daughter to become afamily of four.

Now, within a matter of hours, that dream
was slipping away

But as those first days passed, a new agony set in forDavid and Diana. Because Dana's underdeveloped nervous system wasessentially 'raw', the lightest kiss or caress onlyintensified her discomfort, so they couldn't even cradletheir tiny baby girl against their chests to offer thestrength of their love.
All they could do, as Danastruggled alone beneath the ultraviolet light in the tangleof tubes and wires, was to pray that God would stay closeto their precious little girl.

There was never a moment when Dana suddenly grew stronger.

But as the weeks went by, she did slowly gain an ounce of
weight here and an ounce of strength there.

At last, when Dana turned two months old. her parents were able to hold her in their arms for the very first time.

And
two months later, though doctors continued to gently butgrimly warn that her chances of surviving, much less livingany kind of normal life, were next to zero, Dana went homefrom the hospital, just as her mother had predicted.

Five years later, when Dana was a petite but feisty young
girl with glittering gray eyes and an unquenchable zest forlife.

She showed no signs whatsoever of any mental or
physical impairment. Simply, she was everything a littlegirl can be and more. But that happy ending is far from theend of her story.

One blistering afternoon in the summer of 1996 near her
home in Irving, Texas, Dana was sitting in her mother's lapin the bleachers of a local ball park where her brotherDustin's baseball team was practicing.

As always, Dana was chattering nonstop with her mother and
several other adults sitting nearby when she suddenly fellsilent.Hugging her arms across her chest, little Dana asked,"Do you smell that?"

Smelling the air and detecting the approach of a
thunderstorm, Diana replied, "Yes, it smells like rain."

Dana closed her eyes and again asked, "Do you smell that?"

Once again, her mother replied,
"Yes, I think we're about to get wet. It smells like rain."

Still caught in the moment, Dana shook her head, patted her
thin shoulders with her small hands and loudly announced,
"No, it smells like Him.

It smells like God when you lay your head on His chest."

Tears blurred Diana's eyes as Dana happily hopped down to
play with the other children.

Before the rains came, her daughter's words confirmed what
Diana and all the members of the extended Blessing familyhad known, at least in their hearts, all along.

During those long days and nights of her first two months
of her life, when her nerves were too sensitive for them totouch her, God was holding Dana on His chest and it is Hisloving scent that she remembers so well.

You now have 1 of 2 choices. You can either pass this on
and let other people catch the chills like you did or youcan delete this and act like it didn't touch your heartlike it did mine.

IT'S YOUR CALL!

"I can do all things in Him who strengthens me."

This morning when the Lord opened a window to Heaven, He saw me, and
Heasked: "My child, what is your greatest wish for today?" Iresponded:

"Lord please, take care of the person who is reading this message, theirfamily and their special friends. They deserve it and I love themverymuch" The love of God is like the ocean, you can see its beginning, but notits end.

I had my daughter Abigail at 26 weeks and a day due to Severe Pre-eclampsia and HELLP Syndrome. I was in the hopsital for a week until the medicines weren't controlling my blood pressure anymore. Also Abi had a defect with her cord that they were watching the whole time. Finally they decided to go ahead and deliver her by c-section. She was born at 1:44 pm weighing 1lbs 2 1/2 oz....and only 11.4 inches long. She was on the ventilator for about 2 months. She's had two eye surgeries going on her 3rd, but other than that no serious problems. The lord truly has blessed us with a Miracle and we thank Him everyday, and my husbands great grandmother who passed a way a week after Abigail was born. We believe she has had her arms wrapped around her from the very start.

Well I have had two preemies. My son was born at 26 weeks via c-section due to HELLP Syndrome. HE weighed 1 pound 4 ounces. He was in the NICU a total of 198 days (6 1/2 months). He has had 13 operations. He has cp, a vp shunt, hydrocephalus, developmental delays, and epilepsy. He is on 3 meds a day. He is now 3 years old. He is doing great and is now weighing 26-27 pounds! My daughter was born 1 day shy of 31 weeks gestation. She was born via c-section due to HELLP Syndrome and later found out placenta abruption. She weighed 2 pounds 7 ounces and stayed in the NICU for 35 days. She is now up to 5 pounds and doing great!

I had my LO Dec 10 2008. I was 33 weeks along. He spent an entire month in the NICU due to Apnea and brayacardia spells. He is doing great at home now, he has serious reflux issues but with medication that is resolving....

I have given birth to six babies. All of them ended up being early. The most I was ever pregnant was about 35 weeks. The least was about 28 weeks. They recently told me that I had a fibroid for over 10 years, maybe even more. That may have been the cause of some of the early births. My youngest is 1 and my oldest 19.I even have a step son that was a former preemie.Everyone is in great health!!Good luck to all preemies.Mine only stayed in the hospital for 2-3 weeks, except for my two 35 weekers. One stayed two days and the other only 12 hours.I was very lucky!!The NICU is not a fun place most of the time!!

My first pregnancy i lost my baby to incompetent crevix at 21 weeks. My doctor told me there was no way he could of known. so when i became pregnant again i changed doctors. He found that my cervix was incompetent so I had my cerclage done at 14 weeks. I was constantly going to the hospital for bleeding, or severe pain. i was almost ready to give up. i had made it to 22 weeks and the gave me the steroids to help my baby lungs. so they hospital trips continued. once i got to 35 weeks the contractiond in the pin was unbearable so i was in labor. when my doctor tried to take my cerclage out everthing went wrong. he made a mistake and chipped a piece of my artery and the bed filled with blood. i thuoght i had lost my baby but there is a god. i was rushed to the emergency c-section room. they delivered my baby she was 4lbs 15 ounces. she couldnt breathe on her own and hold her own temperture. she stayed only 12 days in the Nicu. and now shes home doing great. and is weighing 7lbs 6 ounces thank god for the cerclage. have faith

so here's my premature baby story to date. i found out i was pregnant at about 14 weeks. and shocked is the only word to described it. at 17 weeks i woke up bleeding. of course my husband and i both freaked out and rushed to the hospital to find out we were having a boy. i was put on pelvic rest and at 21 weeks i woke up bleeding again. they still could not find a cause for sure. i was sent to a specialist. they found i had an incompetant cervix. at 29 weeks 6 days i was bleeding again. i went to the hospital once again to hear they dont have a cause for the bleeding and since it was subsiding they sent me home. at 430AM 2 days l woke up and felt a trickle. i thought my water had broken due to my cervical problem i got up to go to the bathroom and get some light. all i saw was red. blood and clots were pouring out. i screamed for my husband who arrived at the door to say we have to go. i was crying and trying to find pants with blood running down my legs and all over the floor. we get to the hospital and they make me do paperwork and send me to L&D. all the while i am contracting and bleeding. they ask me for a urine sample which ended up just being blood. they check me and i was 3CM dialated. the doctor came in and says they are transferring me to a larger hospital to deliver. about 5 minutes later she says no we have to do it here we will give you a spinal and do a c section. she checks me and says no time for a spinal we have to put you to sleep. they hook me up to the IVs and wheel me out. they ask me to get into another bed and i broke down. i said i have to see my husband. and they say honey we dont have time and he cannot come in here. now are you ready. i said no. i tried to compose myself and moved beds. they tied me down, and put the mask on me as tears are running down my face. they tell me i will be a little drowsy, and the next thing i know i am waking up with tubes in my throat and them taking them out. they tell me i did great. i ask where's my baby. they told me he came out screaming and he is doing fine. when i got to recovery i asked to see my family. my husband came in and told me our son was just beautiful. he was 2 pound 8 ounces and screaming his head off. they let me see him for about 5 minutes before they transported him to a hospital with a NICU an hour away. he was 30 weeks one day gestation. breathing room air. the only challenge he is facing is nipple feeding and weight gain. they said it was placenta abruption and if they hadnt delivered there i would have died on the way to the other hospital. my baby is such a miracle. he is one week old today. still doing wonderfully. and hopefully we can bring him home in a month or so. he is so strong and already has such a funny personality. hes the light of my life, and i couldnt be more proud
