my daughter is almost 4...and obviously hasnt had shots in a couple years..but she has never been poked in the arm. all doctors offices are different..but our doc does it in the leg thro the toddler years just becuase its more fatty there and hurts less

KZorn - 1079 days ago.
At our dr's office I asked them and they said that once a baby is 1 year old they give ALL vaccines in the arm

LeLe0307 - 1126 days ago.
Quick Question - When they give the chicken pox vacc. .. are they supposed to be giving it to them in the arm or leg at 12 months? My doctor's office gave it to my son in his arm... and I thought that was WAYYYY to young to be doing?! Thoughts????

KZorn - 1289 days ago.
I never thought that chicken pox was a big deal until I had kids. Then I talked to my step mom about it as she is a nurse at a children's hospital and she said that children under 5 can get really bad complications if they get the chicken pox and she sees a lot of kids that die every year from it. It was mostly based off of what she said as to why I got the chicken pox vaccine for my kids. I was concerned about vaccinations too, especially seeing as when I got vaccinated when I was 2 I had seizures from them, but my mom got the doctor to spread out the vaccines and do what they called 'half-doses', so I had to get more shots but there was only about half the vaccine in them. Maybe thats an option for those of you who are wary about it.

http://medalerts.org/vaersdb/index.html My son will be 1 in 2 weeks and we have not yet had any vacs. We have chosen to delay and also pay for them privatley as the standard ones in the UK are 5-in-1 and a - we dont want ALL the vacs and b - we want to spread them out....... I am happy reading the below comments that no-one here has had a serious reaction but they do happen and sadly are not often recorded as being related. After speaking with the private clinic it has baan made clear to me that vaccinating is a lot about ££ (for the government. Yes not everyone has to pay for them but they are not made for free...) and also here in the UK doctors and Health Visitors are given bonuses if they vaccinate a certain percentage of their patients. I dont wish to change anyones minds on vaccinating - that is your choice but for anyone who is concerned as I was research, research, research, knowledge is key and go with your gut instinct..... x

Just curious everyone opinion on the seasonal flu shot and the h1n1 flu shot. I am 2 months pregnant and I have a 3 yr old son. I have decided against the h1n1 shot for both of us. I am still on the fence about getting the seasonal flu shot for me, but I thought i would get it for my son. However, his immune system is not the best and I'm a little affraid to get him the shot. We have never had the shot over the years, but i kinda thought this year may be a good tie to start the seasonal....Not sure if that's the best choice though. I am not the biggest fan of vaccines to begin with. I almost didn't get him any of the regular vaccines, but in the end I figured the benefits outweighed the risks. I thought if he ever wanted to travel or be in the army he would be required to get them. I ended up getting them all, just at a delayed rate and no more than 2 vaccines at a time. But this flu vaccine has me so unsure of what to do.

joelisa - 1342 days ago.
Man this is my opinion, my whole family has gotten vaccines and not one of us is austistic, and its a lot of people in my family. My son got his 1st series and he did just fine he wasn't fussy afterwards he continued to play like any other day. Its up to the parent to make the choice that is right for there child so stop tryna feed this bull to people. I feel like when I read these comments it kind of feels like your tryna scare folks into not doing it until later. Don't get mad its just how I feel and if the dr.'s don't know then you don't know either. Just let people decide on there own instead of saying I checked online blah blah blah. How do you know that the vaccine causes autism what if the child was already austistic and the parent didn't know until later anyways. And saying its about money that crazy because some people get them for free, I know I didn't pay for my child.

shinobissushi - 1352 days ago.
i am not against vaccinations i got all mine growing up and i am just fine as is all my sisters and both of my daughters they have had all of them i am just worried about the affects of the live virus shots but hey if measle mumps rebella hits my daughters school i dont want my daughter to get it my youngest got the measles before her first mmr shot i dont ever want to go through that again she's one

sosborn - 1352 days ago.
There is alot of conflicting evidence when it comes to vaccines and autism...even on the computer. In the end, weigh both options and choose what you feel is best for your child. For me, I had to go back to work and all daycares require vaccines before allowing the child to attend daily daycare. For me, asking the doctor to split up vaccinations and requesting thimerosal-free vaccines was the answer.

RobinG - 1352 days ago.
My son is autistic, he didnt get it from any vacs ~ I feel there is more danger in not getting them then if you do ~ and that is based on my research, not just what others adviced me is right ~

momof3fromct - 1352 days ago.
How many parents on here vaccinate their children without researching vaccines first? I mean like do your own research on the computer instead of just listening to what other people/doctors say?

emmaandtwoboys - 1466 days ago.
hi everyone, i have always been hesitant about vaccinations. i did so much research with my boys now 6 and 7. finally i decided to begin vaccines at 2 yrs. i skipped the chicken pox one. now i have a 4.5 month old, skye. i would love to do the same for her but i live in the caribbean on a very busy island. lots of nationalities. a lot from poor countries. i no longer feel comfortable waiting so long. i went to the dr for the 1st time a week ago to get her 1st vaccine. i read the insert and there was no thimersol....that is no longer used as a preservative, right?? i plan on spacing them. what threw me was the vaccine....pentacoq??? i gather it's a few in one. i am so fearful that it's not even possible to space them now as they do all these 3 in one etc??? confused......any advice/opinions....thanks :)

I am scared to death about SIDS so I started researching it online. It just didn't make sense to me that it peaks at two to four months why? I would think if a baby would stop breathing it would happen when they are a newborn not wait till their two months old. I found many web sit es that had data studies from doctors and storys of mother who say that vaccinatons are the cause of SIDS that some babies can't take all of the injury it causes to brain and they stop breathing but dont take my word for it just Google SIDS and vaccinations and read yourself it's very sad. I'm by no means suggesting that babies not be vaccinated I think I'm gona waited till my daughter is 2 yrs because when Japan changed their vaccination mandate from 3mos to 2 yrs because of SIDS they had virtually no SIDS cases during that time frame the infant mortality rate went from 37 in the world to 1. They also state that most of the cases of whooping cough and measles are children who have already had their vaccinations.

Hi, I'm pleased to report that my baby's vaccination went very well yesterday. After reading pamfllet on main vaccine ingredients and talking to nurse, I decided to go for it. My little boy got three shoots and failed asleep immediately after it. I was terrified, however nurse explained to me that's quite common. I gave him bottle with breast milk and he was able to eat all the time while we were waiting in wait-room after vaccine. He was quite sleepy about twenty minutes, then woke up and started to play, becoming very alert. The rest of the day wasn't different from any other day. By the way, nurse told me that she has been doing baby' vaccinations for thirty years and I'm first case she ever heard about bad reaction after chicken-pox vaccine. Thank you ladies again for sharing your opinion. I'll be happy if my story can help anybody to do the own decision.

Bri - 1580 days ago.
Well, Kekoa just got two shots today. I'm happy to say he is normal and hasn't been fussy at all. We're also thrilled that he has one more shot in two months and then he doesn't have anymore until he's 4years old. YAY!

evas - 1580 days ago.
Shellshocked - I totally agree: Vaccination is a moneymaking business, and you have to be very shrewd. Doctors do not know everything, you have to do your own research. Check in your area whether there's been any outbreaks of, say, diphtheria in the past decades. Indeed, if you avoided tuna etc because of mercury during your pregnancy (and the mercury you eat goes through your digestive system) then how can you inject the same poison straight into the blood of a tiny baby? My son is 15 mos old and I will def not give him every single vaccine there's out there. Please ladies, inform yourselves - doctors are doctors not gods.

Bri - 1580 days ago.
I agree with Robin. I feel that the vaccines have too many benefits for our family. Like I said below, you need to look into what is best for your own family, especially if you have a child with a condition or has had one in the past.

RobinG - 1580 days ago.
I did my own research and never went by what my doc told me to do ~ my own research validated that vacs were best for my boys ~ (())

Ana30 - 1581 days ago.
Thank you so much ladies for your response. When my older boys got vaccinated, I didn't even think about all these issues. Now, I'm so scared because baby had issues with brain and I had a bad experience from the past. I'm particulary scared about pneumococal and meningococal vaccine (that might cause -- very rarely-- brain inflamation.). But I also want to consider' What happened if my baby get exposed to this bacteria' Readheadmama could you please give me your dad's opinion about these particular vaccines. It's getting even more scary when medical professionals give you different opinion about same issue. My pediatrician was fine with vaccination as well, but not my family doctor. I also think that breastfeeding help a lot. I'll keep you posted.

redheadmama - 1582 days ago.
my dad is a pediatrician, so I trust him explicitly. we do not do all the shots -- just the ones that are 'most pertinent', so to speak. I hope you all have a pediatrician that you can trust fully. it really can be trusting him/her with your child's life! even with vaccinations. so make sure to ask questions of him/her, and explain your concerns specifically. if your child has medical anomalies, bring those back up to the surface in case the dr has a brain lapse. :) the researchers and developers have come such a long way recently in creating vaccines. I know (through my dad's practice) many kids that have been badly affected by NOT getting shots... and not a single one in Dad's 30 years having a bad reaction to a shot. It's way more rare. So be prayerful, careful, and thoughtful. But trust your pediatrician's advice. most likely, they're not a money-monger (they don't usually get paid for vaccines anyway!), and are just looking out for your baby's health in the short AND long term.

happyforest - 1582 days ago.
ana my son is 3 months old and we arent getting any shots yet. i feel like he is too young to get all of those poisons injected into his body. when i looked up what all was in shots i was shocked!! we will be getting them, just not so soon! i know he will have to have them to go to school and stuff. but right now he is home with me, not in daycare. so we dont have to get them for any reason yet. they are linked to SIDS and it scares me. some babies bodies cant handle it and they just shut down.

Bri - 1582 days ago.
OH Ana how sad! I am for vaccines and my son has had all of them. I would do some research regarding what your son has and vaccines though. I don't want to give you information and have be a totally different story in your case. I can say for my son shots have been easy. I'm also breastfeeding which I personally think helps. I typically feed right after the shot which helps soothe Kekoa down. My sister feeds while they give the shot and her baby doesn't even get phazed by it. The worst that has happened with my son was a slight fever for about an hour. Honestly, the fever never slowed him down either. I don't think he noticed it and after a bit of tylenol he was fine. They effect each baby differently and I've been lucky not to have a fussy baby afterwards. We are going in on Friday for 15month shots. I'm not nervous or concerned because I know he'll do fine with them. I do however alway plan for shots on a Friday so both my husband and I will be home in case he is very fussy or has a fever.

Definately look into your baby's bleeding and make sure the shots aren't blood thinners or anything like that. I'm a little concerned that your doctor is or is he anti-vaccines all around?

Ana30 - 1582 days ago.
Could you please share any good (or bad) experience with your child immunization. I have 3 months old son who is due to get his first shoots. He had some issues with his brain (bleeding in brain diagnosed in uterus, that left some permanent damages in small part of his brain), however was born and are developing as perfectly normal baby. I read some scary information about brain inflamation that might be caused by vaccination. Beside this my family doctor is against vaccination and suggested us to do only basic shoots. I also had bad experience with my older son's vaccination. He developed very scary allergy after Chicken-Pox vaccine (given at years of five) and had hard time to recover. Any experience and opinion is highly appreciated.
