Hi everyone! Thank God I found this forum :) By reading yours stories, I feel supported and some how relieved from all me and my husband are going through. At 25 weeks, I had my first anathomy ultrasound and doctors found my baby's left ventricule slightly enlarged. At the time, the doctor didn't tell me the exact measure, but he said that there was only liquid inside the ventricule and that I shouldn't worry about it. He also said that most babies born with an enlarged ventricule do just fine in their lives. When my Obgyn was informed, he wanted me to go back for a follow up ultrasound. I was seen by another doctor who alarmed me by stuffing my mind with all kinds of opinions. She informed me that the left ventricule measured 11mm and the right ventricule 10.5mm. The referred me to a high risk doctor whom sent me to the lab for generic and infection testing. I am dying to know the results. The high risk doctor also suggested that i shouldn't worry too much about it, but it is almost impossible. Today I had another sonogram performed by the second doctor. She said that she could only measure the left ventricule and it measured 12mm. I don't understand how she got such a precise measurement when the baby did not cooperate. He moved and rotated his head constantly. They tried to get a clear pic of the right ventricule but couldn't. I even had a transv. but the baby's pposition didn't help. What bothers me the most is that the doctor told me that my case is a cloudy picture and that she doesn't know what to tell me. I am very frustrated. This is my first pregnancy and the level of stress is sometimes unbearable, Today, I am 34 weeks and I cannot wait to see my baby. I just hope for the best and let God take control of my situation, Hope you countinue this forum. I will keep you informed of the results as soon as I see my gyn.

Thanks Sonya... i am 23 weeks+ had my anomaly scan last week. when i had a 4D scan at 19wks everything was just fine. i would like to think that the sonographer got it wrong coz LO was moving too much.... one more week to go till the next scan. Hopes and prayers...

Partyof5now (Sonya) - 218 days ago.
smiles123 - How far along are you? Sending good thoughts your way that your LO's vent decreases by the next scan. If you need to talk we are here & know how stressing & tearful the situation is. Thinking of you & your LO, please keep us posted.

smiles123 - 218 days ago.
hi everyone........... i have been tru this site few times now, coz when i had my anormaly scan on 4th of july the sonographer found out one of the ventricles measure 10.9, where 10 is the cut off point. i didnt understand anything abt it until i read the stories shared in this website. i am having a baby boy and its my first child........ i am so hoping that it will resole by my next scan which is in a week(everything crossed). and i have also red that if it is isolated mild ventriculomegaly there is a good prognosis. though i am trying not to worry its haunting me every sec, i cant imagine anything happening to my LO, i have waited long enough for him.........

Partyof5now (Sonya) - 221 days ago.
Congrats on the arrival on all your new LO's who posted recently =) samismum - such great news about your LO, glad he was given a clean bill of health. salem13 - I would go thru with the amnio, we opted for it with my son because we just had to know what we were facing so we could prepare...it came back perfectly normal. I think the risks of the amnio procedure are minimal & just take it easy afterwards for a few days tho. laila10 - sorry hear about the seizure your LO had, I hope they figure out what the reason is.

lin - 222 days ago.
samismom- its terrifying isnt it. I was also offered an abortion at 25 weeks by the health care professionals I had grown to trust. I was told my son had a club foot and ventriculomegaly and likely had a trisomy. I refused the abortion or any other testing and just had routing ultrasounds to check on his progress. By 36 weeks his vents had totally corrected and he was born perfectly healthy. he did have a club foot, but how minor is that compared to what we thought we were dealing with!! He is now just about 4 and my whole world, I cringe to think that they had offered to terminate my sweet perfect little boy. Congrats on your healthy little baby!! Enjoy!!

samismum - 222 days ago.
I have posted my story so far on this forum and received so much support that it stopped me from aborting my child. Thank God I listened to my motherly instinct and trusted my friends, family and this forum at the time. 3 weeks ago, I gave birth to my 8 pound healthy boy. I had a horrific pregnancy as I had vomiting throughout and lost a total of 18 kilos, I know... how did my baby weigh 8lb at birth.. thats what you call a miracle. At 32 weeks my boy was diagnosed with having 17mm vents and after an MRI on Friday and other physical tests, the doctors discharged him from any further check ups or follow ups. Sami's vents had gone down to 10mm on each side and no other anomilies were found. He has been born completely normal. I can't beleive that the same doctors were offering me an abortion at 32 weeks?!!! I'm so blessed to have this miracle happen to me. When my baby was born, I just knew I would be able to cope with anything life would throw at me. Thankfully, God did not put me through that test. To think I could have aborted a completely normal child frightens me. Ladies, please listen to your gut feeling, don't take the doc's word as if it's God's word, they are not God and they clearly do not have enough research in this field to be giving such advice. I have read this story all too often in this forum. Give your babies a chance. Thank you all so much for your support. I couldn't have got through this without you. I have posted two new pictures of my family to my prifile for you all to see my miracle baby boy . xxxxx

Hi Salem, That is a crazy turn of events. I would reconsider the amnio. The likelihood of causing harm is minimal. I would look at it as a way of getting prepared. You can do a lot more research about all available treatment options ahead of time. We were able to do a stem cell infusion for my daughter because we were informed. If there is a chromosomal issue at hand you may have various options available. This will give you the time to find out about them and make informed decisions without being rushed.

turtlemom - 222 days ago.
Hi Laila, Parker has seizures and it totally sucks!!! Many 'normal' kids have seizures too. I am so sorry that this has happened to your baby. Hopefully this is an isolated incident. If not, I pray they find the right medication to stave off any further seizures!

salem13 - 223 days ago.
Hi Bailey so I got my results of the ultrasound the Vents are 16mm and 14mm at 19 week gestation. They also found a calcium deposit in the left ventricle of the heart. These are 2 soft focus markers for Down Syndrome. We'll see what happens they are going to do 2 more ultrasounds before the baby is born because they did say the vents may go down. I opted out of an amnio because I can't stomach aborting my child at 5 months. They did say if I wanted to abort they would give me the option to do it until 6 months. Crazy ...I just have to think of Seamus and hope that my next son comes out just like him. I pray all goes well and hopefully I can enjoy this pregnancy.

laila10 my thoughts and prayers are with you and your child.I hope she recovers soon. Is ur child been referred to a specialist (Neurologist)? i couldn't find online the cause why it happened to your child . I heard its hard to recognize seizure at so early age, when your baby got seizure how did u recognize it. When i went for an MRI the Dr who practices in Radiology, Diagnostic Fetal Imaging; Gynecologic Ultrasound And Intervention; MRI; Ultrasound Imaging. has handed me few papers saying this is the latest result for Neurodevelopmental outcome for ventriculomegaly . i found the link and i would like to share so it might help u or other in any way http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2892836/

madiNashtonsmom - 224 days ago.
Laila10, I'm sorry to hear your daughter had a seizure. I can't imagine how scarey that must have been. I will keep her and your family in my thoughts and hope everything turns out good for you all! Aug2811, I'm sorry to hear you have gestational diabetes but I doubt it has anything to do w/the VM or that it will have any effect on it. So far I haven't read any connections between the two. I think you have to eat a special diet and that is very important. Good luck to you with that. I'm sure everything will be fine, my cousin had this with her daughter and everything turned out alright. I JUST WENT FOR ANOTHER ULTRASOUND AND THERE WAS NO GROWTH!! I'm very happy with these results. Both of his vents seem to have stabilized at 13mm and my amniotic fluid has not increased either. However, I ended up going into preterm labor again last night! They were able to stop it again thank goodness. I did have to have all three shots of terbutaline which wasn't as bad as the first time. This is the second time I have gone into preterm labor. The docs earlier that day said my fluid is not that high so it shouldn't cause the preterm labor. hmmm...

i came to know that i have gestational diabetes. i failed the 3 hr test in single digits( i got 98 fasting where it should be less than 95, got 143 should be less than 140 )and so on i failed 3 out of 4 results. my concern is will that effect the baby vents?

aug2811 - 226 days ago.
madiNashtonsmom thanks. actually i was disappointed to hear that both vents where still there . i was hoping for 1 vent. but u made me realize that there was some good new in it and i should look for positive side.

hi ladies my baby girl is now 9 month old, 3 weeks ago she suffered from seizure!!!! they did her all test and electroencephalogram, everything came normal, docts are not sure about the origin of that!!! she has Vm with 15mm right and 16mm left one, Any one had a similar experience. I´m very upset! I need help. thanks

bailey1 - 227 days ago.
hi Salem-- I remember you from your first pregnancy! I can't imagine having to go through all that all over again; but at least now you know to take what the doctors say with a grain of salt, maybe? In terms of the Down syndrome- I know the docs told me that enlarged vents are one of the markers for Down's so I'm assuming that's why they mentioned it. It seems like maybe naturally bigger-than-average vents (that don't cause any problems) just run in your (or your husband's) family...? Will you be going through all the tests again??

salem13 - 227 days ago.
I was just into the the Dr's yet again. Pregnancy #2 and the baby was diagnosed with Ventriculomegaly. I don't know if anyone has had 2 children diagnosed with the same problem. My son is thriving and is far advanced than they can imagine. To think the Dr's gave us an option to abort my son is horrific to think about now. I'm 5 months and will go for my next set of ultrasound tests this Thursday. They also said the baby may have a chance of having Down Syndrome. Has anyone had the same issue???? Thanks for your comments that are much needed.

sofea lee - 227 days ago.
Congratulations deedee26! Hope your little one can overcome the odds the doc mentioned. Enjoy each day, counting your blessings, your baby will be just fine!

Hey ladies so I had my lo on Wednesday and am very happy she is here!! We had an MRI on Thursday and had the results yesterday which said she has severe ventriculomegaly and also microcephaly which we weren't told by the doctors they just wrote it on her notes for the gp to see. I am very overwhelmed about what going to happen I mean we did prepare ourselves for the ventriculomegaly an the fact she might have some problems and everything but the doctor also told us that she might even have to be registered as disable. We were hoping for better news but i guess we just have to wait an see when she grows up to everyone also she has a problem but to me and the hubby she is just perfect an we wouldn't change her for the world!!

Partyof5now - your story is very inspiring and your little boy is just beautiful!

madiNashtonsmom - 232 days ago.
That is great news Aug2811!!!!! So happy for you, I know you are relieved to hear this! Glad to hear your doctor says the EPA is fine too, now I don't feel as scared to take it after hearing from 2 doctors. Hope the good news will continue for you! And hoping I get some good news when I go on 7.7.11 :)

partyof5now (Sonya) - 232 days ago.
amy6152 - my son was diagnosed at 29/28 weeks as well with VM & Colpocephaly. The ultrasound was just suppose to check to see if my low lying placenta had corrected itself as well (diagnosed with that at 18/19 weeks as well), it did correct itself, but the news of my son was a shocker to us especially after all the blood tests, U/S's & torch test done in early pregnancy all came back fine. Our storys sound very similiar except my son was diagnosed with Colpocephaly as well. My son will be 20 months this coming Sunday, he is healthy & such a little treasure. My sons story is posted on my profile & you are more than welcome to check them out. Nothing can stop you from worrying but know that you are not alone in what you are going thru.

today i a have see my Dr. last time my Dr couldn't find 1 vent hoping it to be normal size but my baby's 2vents both r there but they slightly reduces the size by 1mm.but still the vents are larger then the normal size. i asked about the DHA and i asked if i can take plant base (algae) Dha 500mg. she said yes you can take dha ,in the past it was hard to get dha of that level and now you are getting it .she doesn't know about the band until she see the back of the label what it says about ingredient . but as far as she know she said Lipil, Expecta which has omega 3 are the general once that pregnant women takes. i even asked about EPA she said it ok .

madiNashtonsmom - 232 days ago.
Aug2811, I asked my doctor about the EPA and he said it was fine that DHA & EPA are virtually the same thing. I still don't know how much he really has read up on the subject. So...I'm going to ask the perinatologist on my next visit which is 7.7 I'm going to take the vitamins sparingly and just continue taking the Expecta DHA 200mg and eat walnuts and other Omega 3 rich foods in the meantime. The doctor said I probably won't make it till full term because of the polyhydramnios (excess amniotic fluid). I'm already full term size and only at 31 weeks. It's becoming painful and uncomfortable. I've been reading trying to see if other moms have had this same condition along with the ventriculomegaly or any other conditions but have only seen one other case.
