thanks for ur support madiNashtonsmom .i dont want to get excited as i am very sceptic about the result. my mind will rest only when every thing will come to its normal levels.
i am due on Aug 28 but expecting to deliver 2 weeks early as i did for my 1st child.regarding Amino level i never heard and my dr never discussed with me.i am guessing you will be over weight due to that and may deliver early discuss with your dr if u have questions i recommend calling her to clear your doubt. i was over weight with my 1st child i gained 70pounds.it took couple of months to get back to my normal weight.i don't have idea regarding walnut. but i take Almond, http://www.buzzle.com/articles/benefits-of-soaking-almonds-in-water.html . i soak Almond overnight in water and take it in the morning as suggested by my mom she tell me it make brain sharp.

Aug2811 that's great news!! I know you were relieved to hear this! Looks like we're due around the same time. I'm expecting 8.31.11! I just had my 29 week US & amnio yesterday 6.16.11 and found out one of my baby's vents didn't grow at all and the other grew 2mm. So now the vents are symmetrical. Of course it would have been better news that neither had grown but I'll take just one for now! So now they are both measuring 13mm. Unfortunately, my amniotic fluid level has gone up from 22 last visit and is now over the normal level at 26.4. Doc said this isn't too bad, he's seen way worse but it's not a very comfortable situation. I'm just over 7 months but look and feel like full term. Have you or anyone else happened to have elevated amniotic fluid? I've read a lot on here about taking DHA and also eating walnuts. I'm doing whatever I can to try to help my baby even if these things that seemed to help others were just a coincidence, it can't hurt! I started taking about 1100mg of DHA and eating 1/4 cup of walnuts a day about a week ago. I don't know if this has contributed to the non growth of my baby's vents but I'm gonna keep it up! If you take extra DHA just make sure it's not from fish and if it is that the box states that it's mercury and lead free. If it's from a plant you have to be sure that plant doesn't have Vitamin A b/c too much of this can be harmful too. :o/ I hope we both & everyone else going through this continue to get good news!! I'm starting to learn to trust my intuition...at my last appointment I just had a bad feeling the news wasn't going to be good and it wasn't (the vents had grown). When I went in yesterday, even though I knew I had to have an amnio done, I just had the feeling that the news was not going to be very bad and it wasn't. I feel pretty good about what the amnio results will be so I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

i had my ultra sound at 29 wks. out of 2 vents one remains the same size and the other one the dr couldn't find .she is guessing that the vent has come to its normal size and that the reason she couldn't locate it now. let see at my next visit.
the Dr was recommending for the Cord Blood banking because of my baby condition (isolate mild vent) the stem cells might help my child in future.
any body enrolling in Cord Blood banking ? whats the best company to go for and how much it cost?
best affordable company plz.

I was wondering, has anyone else whose baby has been diagnosed with VM had elevated amniotic fluid levels as well? I know that this along with VM can be a marker for a genetic/chromosomal disorder, which is worrying me more. As I've said previously I did the quad blood screen which was fine and all ultrasounds have been good too but I am also aware that these tests do not test for all the syndromes/abnormalities. At the 23 week ultrasound they noticed that the baby's ventricles in his brain were at a high normal measurement. They were measuring 9.4-9.8 on one side and 10mm on the other, with 10mm being the highest range in 'normal'. So, I went back at 27 weeks only to find they had grown to 11mm on one side and 13mm on the other. My amniotic fluid level is also reaching the high end of normal, measuring at 22, with 25 being normal. I go for my 29 week US tomorrow and will have the amnio done as well. Of course, I'm a bundle of nerves but trying to keep my composure. This waiting game I'm about to play for the next two weeks will be hell. Wish me luck! :)

I forgot to add - at an MRI scan when he was 8 months old, both of his vents had returned to normal size - what this means .......... dont know, I wouldnt change him now anyway ..... :o)

Hello Aug - I have never heard that the vents cannot increase after a certain time, my son's vents were not found until 30 weeks and then one of them returned to normal size (from 12.5mm) throughout the rest of my pregnancy and the other stayed the same size at 14.5mm. It is mostly the absence or presence of additional brain anomolies that is the concerning factor. Having said that, my son has agenesis of the corpus callosum (isolated) and is developing normally thus far, he is now nearly 2 and a half. I would generally say try and believe the consultants when they say positive things about outcomes in these situations as they dont tend to without reason to believe it, but I think that you will get lots of people who will disagree with this theory. Unfortunately, these are situations with too many unanswerable questions ..........

hi aug! In my case my baby´s vents were measuring 12-13mm at 30 weeks and went up to 15-16mm at week 37, so I think it is not true what they told you, but miracles can happen you never know.just be possitive, every thing will be ok!!

Aug2811 (this is sydney_franklin@yahoo.com now name changed to madiNashtons mom) thanks so much for your response, it was very helpful. Like LDMusgrave said, it sounds like your baby will be just fine as it is mild and isolated. Sounds like you have done all the tests and they have turned out positive too, so I would feel extremely relieved.

I have yet to do the amnio and am now wondering if I should wait till I'm around 32 weeks in case it were to send me into labor, this way the baby would be further developed. My next US is this Thursday and I was probably planning on doing the amnio then depending on the results of the scan. I would love to hear everyones opinion on this. I do feel like my life is at a standstill at this moment, not knowing exactly what is going on with my baby. Depending on the prognosis, I may need to change the hospital where I plan to deliver so that the baby can recieve the best possible care. I feel like the sooner I do that the better so that I'm ensured they will have all my records/info.

Aug, if your baby's vents are isolated mild ventriculomegaly, I think your baby is going to be absolutely fine. Only when there are other things involved with this diagnosis is there a reason to worry. When the ventricles start growing bigger and bigger and bigger, there is a cause for concern, because then the ventricles start putting pressure on the brain tissue, but in your baby's case, it is no where near doing that. As long as they monitor the ventricle size and keep track of it, I think there is no need to worry for your baby's well being. There is no reason to dwell on why it happened, many of us will never know why at all. My daughter's ventricles filled her entire skull, squishing her brain to the outer edges of the bone, which is referred to as hydrocephalus, so she required a shunt. Your baby is no where near the severity of a case of hydrocephalus. I'm not saying not to be aware of her ventricle sizes, because it's a very good idea to keep track when there are some raised eyebrows, but honestly, if the ventricles stay the way they are and there are no other complications, there is a 97% chance your baby will be fine.

sydney_franklin@yahoo.com i am 28weeks still taking Prenatal Vitamins (Concept DHA capsule) +Nature made( Folic Acid with DHA) . i started taking when i was 5 weeks pregnant and i am still continuing . I asked my Obgyn and my High risk Dr's they said its ok to take and they said it wont over dose baby or the body. the body will take only how much it requires. But whats the use my baby has isolate mild vent. i some times feel why this happened to my baby is it because of this folic acid with dha. i heard that Ventriculomegaly its common in boys . what about girls and how do they perform with this? can any body tell me is there any special diet or medication for the vent level to go down.

samismum, im sooooo glad to hear that!!! I was thinking always about you and your docts advice of termination. these are really great news, your baby is a big fighter. My LO couldn´t do the same, but even though, she is now 8 month, vents 15-16mm and thanks God doing very well. pls keep us updated. I wish you a safe delivery.

My due date has come and gone and baba is still inside me. I'm feeling so positive. The docs needed to do an ultrasound on baba's head to check I can still give birth natually and guess what they found? His vents have gone down even more. His vents sizes are now just 11mm and 12mm which can just be a standard variation in boys. I'm so blessed. I'm just feeling impatient now and want to cuddle my little bundle. To all those going through this experience, please beleive in what is in your heart. My babies vents enlarged all the way up to 17mm. Babies are miracles, give them a chance. Stay positive, it works. xx

Thank you for your responses partyof5now & turtlemom, I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. I think we're going to wait till the next US on 6.16 to see if his vents have grown. If they have grown and my amniotic fluid level is even higher then I'm pretty sure we'll opt for the amnio that day, if not then we'll wait. I don't want to put him at any unnecessary risk. They made me feel even more concerned when they said my amniotic fluid level was at the high end of normal as well, as this along with the vents measuring large can be a marker for a chromosal disorder. It's just still hard for me to believe that the quad blood screen & all the US's I've been through could miss something. But I guess the quad doesn't test for all the syndromes/abnormalities. Sometimes it's all so overwhelming I just don't know what to do as I don't want to make any wrong decisions.

sydney_franklin@yahoo.com - We did the amnio at 31 wks...didnt get the results back for 14 days tho. Even tho we were warned of the risk of possible onset of labor we decided to have it done just because we needed to know if Kadens issue was Genetic or what...we had all the previous blood tests & ultrasounds in early pregnancy that showed no issues but we felt since Kadens issues popped up suddenly at onset of 3rd trimester something had to be going on & we wanted to know the reason...just needed some answers for all we were going thru at the time. Amnio went well & wasnt anything that I couldnt live thru pain wise & then of course you have to go home & take it easy for a while. 14days later the results came back all clear...no infestions, no genetic issue & no deformity that they tested for. So Kadens enlarged vent issue & brainloss we were told at the time still remains unexplainable even 19+months later. But we opted for all the tests including the MRI & amnio because we had to know what was wrong & we felt we needed to be prepared for what our sons health issues possibly were after he was born...we did all the tests & came back with no answers. I think it is a personal choice, some opt for it & others choose not to take that possible risk, I say go with what you feel in your heart...If you need to know & feel it will better prepare you for what health issues or medical procedures your LO may need after birth or if you feel you dont need to know because no matter what it wont change a thing & you will cross that road after LO is born then that is for you to choose. I hope all turns out fine, thinking of you & your LO...please keep us updated on your LO. Take care

I just read where someone said they were taking DHA supplements on top of prenatal vitamins. So, can you take more than what's in your vitamins? Does anyone know the safe amount a pregnant woman can take on top of what's in prenatals? Thanks!

I would do the amnio. We werent in exactly the same situation b/c we knew it was severe hydro from the start. But, you want all the info you can. We were able to make decisions about where to deliver to give my baby the best care and also to collect her cord blood to later re-infuse. Had she had a chromosomal disorder, the stems cells would not be necessarynand we would have wasted that. Basically, we were able to make more informed decisions regarding our miracle.

I would also like to say that I've been reading through some of the posts on here and it's very inspiring and comforting to hear all of your stories. I'm so glad I finally found a place to talk with others who are going through or who have gone through the same thing.

I'm 38 years old and 27 weeks. I had my quad blood screen done and everything tested negative, meaning it was all good. All of my ultrasound screenings were great, showing no problems or markers for anything. Until my 23 week ultrasound they noticed that the baby's ventricles in his brain were at a high normal measurement. It's still in the normal range but they said that high amniotic fluid can be a sign of a genetic disorder.
So, now I'm getting scared. Of course the doctors said that this isn't anything to be terribly worried about just yet. I have to go back in two weeks to have another us. They're offering me an amnio again and I think I will do it this time. What is your opinion on doing an amnio? Atleast this way we'll know wether we need to be in a better equipped hospital so that the baby can receive the best care. And we will have time to prepare ourselves as well.
What I'm wondering is if anyone has had negative blood tests, negative ultrasounds (meaning showing nothing to be concerned about), thinking everything is just fine and then you have an amnio that comes back saying there's a genetic disorder or anything else? Or all the tests through the pregnancy came out fine and then the baby was born with something wrong? I really appreciate anyone that takes the time to read this and give me your advice.
Thanks in advance!
