its sad to me that so many women equate natural birth to pain. when that is not always the case. more people report, uncomfortable and pressure more than pain. i had my second daughter 100% natural and it didn;t hurt until i was 9 1/2 cm!! And even then it was maybe a half hour till delivery after it started hurting.

Holographic Breathing is making some head way in the area of childbirth. It is great for reducing the pain of labour and generally helping in childbirth. In 2009 I taught the midwives at The Birth Centre - founded by Caroline Flint in south London. This was the first birth centre to be formed and Caroline Flint is a founder member and activist of the natural birth movement. This has also inspired others, and now over 30 birth centres and hospitals have become involved and are passing Holographic Breathing on to mothers. In the new year I will be starting therapist trainings for people who want to be therapists in this breathing/healing system either for birth, meditation or healing. Free Audio Seminars and lectures can also be downloaded from my web site at www.holographic-breathing.com

Lainee~ I have had two natural births, and I plan on having another with this baby in 29 weeks! :) I have both of their birth stories on my page. They are a bit long, but they are really detailed. I LOVE labor...I know that's weird to say, but I actually look forward to it. I initially didn't want to get an epidural because I'm scared of needles...and so I didn't. Nobody thought I could do it, and my doctor laughed at me when I told him that I didn't plan on getting one. It takes a lot of determination. If you aren't determined to do it that way, chances are, you are going to wimp half way through. Stay focused, and definately get a doula, they help me a million! My hospital offers free birth doulas, and since I'm usually the only one giving all naturally, I get her for the majority of the time. Another good thing I learned was the breathing techniques from 'hypnobirthing' I didn't do so well with the relaxation methods (although many have), but the breathing patterns actually worked great. I learned also, don't tighten your body muscles through contractions. If your face is all scrunched up during the pain, then that means your muscles are too...relax. It will bring less pain if you relax and breath. Just know that it will hurt, but if that's how you want it, then the hurt is do-able. I actually like it. I cried while dialating from 8-10 (because it happened so fast), but that was the only time during the two births that I cried at all. If they will let you get away with a hep-lock (IV in, but not hooked up to fluids, they'll let you if you don't have to be induced), then I definately reccomend hot showers. Sit back and let the water hit you under your belly, or where you're feeling the contractions. It is an AWESOME pain reliever, and I practically lived in the shower my first birth (had to be induced with second and couldn't get in with that one). I do have to say...after my first birth, people stopped doubting me. I got MANY appologies, even from my doctor. He admitted he didn't think I could do it, and he was proud of me (I was only 19 at the time). The nurses were all shocked that I handled it so peacefully. It is the most amazing thing ever. Just think 'you don't experience this too often, it's worth enduring the pain to experience it all'. It really is amazing. Good luck and get ahold of me if you have any questions!! :)

What I tell most 1st timers about is the pain. It is the worrse than you can imagine and at the same time, not as bad as you think. Does that make sense? I was so terrified of the pain with my first that was all I focused on throughout the labor. Getting her here without intervention became a task, rather than an experience. I couldn't relax as I waited for each contraction to be worse than before. I thought I was going to die as that was how many women described their portion of unmedicated childbirth to me, agonizing pain. While I learned that yes, it did HURT and yes, it would take a lot of focus and strength to get through that pain, it was manageable by me and my body and it wouldn't kill me.

I have delivered 3 children naturally (m 2nd needed medical intervention) and plan to deliver my 5th child naturally as well. My longest (and coincidentally my 1st) labor was 6 hour long and my shortest was 31 min. I would love to share stories and answer questions.

Free Seminar in Holographic Breathing
This breathing system can be very useful for pain relief in child birth. This is Free at www.holographic-breathing.com.
participants can learn how the bones of the pelvis breathe and move. In this process the pelvis becomes a very fluid structure. In birth it’s helpful to have this experience and be able to allow the pelvis to breathe with the baby.
During birth this type breathing gently unfolds in its own way. The main effect of this is that most women said that this type of breathing takes away about 60% of the pain of labour, or changes it into something more enjoyable.
There is a strong relationship between the jaw and the pelvis in birth, a loose jaw help the pelvis also become loose. This is aided in this breathing system as there is a small, gentle, movement of the mouth, on the in-breath the jaw gently opens, and on the out-breath the jaw gently closes. This is held by the lips being closed and the tongue being on the roof of the mouth, the breath is through the nose. In the first seminar participants learn how to go about this in a relaxed and easy way. At a certain point there is a remembrance as if this movement is expanding from with-in us, and as this happens the movement and the breath integrate, the mouth and the whole body relax into a deep, moving breath.
A lot of pain in birth is when the the body tightens against the experience. As the mouth, jaw, body, and pelvic are in a gentle flux with the breath in Holographic Breathing this helps to remove this tensing against the natural unfoldment of birth and allows the body to have it natural intelligence. As it feels like the pelvis is breathing it makes it easier to breath the baby out, it make birth more enjoyable.

Hello ladies. I just want to wish you all the most healthy pregnancies possible. With that said, and I hope I'm not a bother (if I am, just ignore me!) but I wanted to share a social site (I'll just mention it this once) called Mother Tree. It's a site for natural pregnancy, birth and parenting. Feel free to check it out. More and more people are joining everyday, and it's really the people that make the site great. www.mothertree.ning.com. Thanks ladies. Take care

mama-There is no way anyone can tell you how to handle your birth. If you are feeling like you would like to go natural, talk to your doctor. When you check into the hospital for your delivery, tell your nurse. But, if you start feeling like you need meds, if you have a birth support person, talk to them in advance, tell them that when/if you start 'breaking down' to try and pep talk you. It is ultimately your choice, I can not imagine that the hospital would deny you pain medication if you asked for it, even if you had told them you wanted to go natural. When I was pregnant with my son, I told my doctor, in fact I was almost adamant that I had no pain medication. He gave my nurse an approval, so if I felt like I needed it, they could get it to me right away instead of waiting for him. Well, I made it to 6 almost 7 cm and was crying for the epi. Looking back, I have no regrets, I labored for 26 hours and 3 of those was spent pushing, I had a 3rd degree tear and needed quite a bit of mending. It was the best decision for me. Go with your feelings. And, good luck!

me as well bri! are you getting hassled at all? i swear there are people crawling out of the woodworks telling me things like 'you'll die without a doctor!' and 'you are soo selfish to do that to your baby!' (roll eyes here), i'm doing this for BOTH of us. i want gentle, unrushed, and natural. i trust in my uterus, even though it's been cut! : )

I had natural birth with my girl, am 17 weeks now and want to have natural again. Yes it's sore during the contractions, but once I was allowed to push, it was such a relief and felt like all the pain has gone away. I felt so proud of myself after that experience, I felt like Super Woman.

hoping - I trained for it but in the end I had to have a section. With this next child I am hoping for an all natural VBAC. I plan on using the hypnobirthing techniques that I have learned to do so. Congrats and good luck! It's an awesome experience.
