Which vaccinations are necessary at the one year old check up?

Vaccination Schedule 12 Months
4th dose of each:

• Hib vaccine
• Pneumococcal Vaccine

Hib Vaccine
Children who get the vaccine are protected against Haemophilus Influenza type B bacteria. This is the bacteria that causes meningitis and can cause brain damage. The bacteria can infect the blood, joints, bones, muscles, throat and the heart.

Pneumococcal Vaccine
The pneumococcal vaccination is a method of preventing pneumonia- which is caused by Pneumococcus bacterium.

NEW SHOTS:

• MMR Vaccine
• Varicella (Chicken Pox) Vaccine

Mmr Vaccine
The MMR immunization protects against measles, mups and rubella. Measles is a very contagious disease that causes a high fever, cough, and a spotty rash all over. It may also cause ear infections and pneumonia. Mumps causes painful swollen salivary glands, fever and a headache. Mumps can also cause meningitis or hearing loss. Rubella is also called German Measles. It is most dangerous for women who are pregnant. Rubella can cause a mother to have a miscarriage or deliver a baby with heart disease, blindness, hearing loss or learning problems.

Varicella Vaccine
The chicken pox vaccination is a fairly new immunization. Chicken pox is a common childhood illness that is spread through an open blister on the skin of someone that has chicekn pox. It is a virus, and can also be spread through coughing or sneezing. Not all people have had the vaccine, so lots of children still get the virus.

My son got his MMR & Chicken Pox vacc. in his arms.... Is that normal? Aren't they supposed to still be giving them shots in their legs? I need help on this one... should I be checking into another doctor??? Let me know your thoughts!! I am very concerned!!

I got my son the MMR vaccine and he got a mild case of the measles from it. It was awful. It started a week after the shot with a fever, not sleeping through the night, and then a rash. He was so miserable. DH and I took him to the emergency and the ER doc said he had a mild case of the measles. He couldn't go to daycare for 2 days and I had to keep him away from any pregnant women just in case. But he's fine now and hasn't had any other reactions. But it really freaked me out!!

harry is 8 and never had his MMR i was hounded for years by the doctors and health visitor and the school nurse for harry to get this jag.. was really wearing.. alf is only 8months but hes not getting it either . Im still not convincedits safe and i dont understand why its such a hassle to split the vaccination, or offer parents like me who are obviously against the MMR the split vaccination as oppse to no vaccination at all. yes i know its a matter of cost but why wont my doc rather me have the split vaccinations as oppose the MMR? strange

I thought i would leave this link to a news page from the UK. This latest study shows unequivocally that there is no link between autism and the MMR vaccine. The doctor who first proposed this theory has been struck off by the GMC since his reports were made in the Lancet magazine and the Lancet stated that they should never have published it in the first place. I feel that you have 5 years to spread out these shots, so why not. Safe rather then sorry. Once your child gets Autism there is no going back and saying what if I would have....... My daughter has Autism but we believe she got it from lead paint exposure. Her level at 2 and a half was 62.4 leathel. Our apartment was loaded with this paint. We had it investagated and it was uninhabitable for women and children. Like I said spread the shots out a little nothing illegle or wrong about doing it that way. No one can say that shots don't cauise this because even the scientists who did the study said they have studied this for 2 years. It took how many years to get the facts straight about aids, cancer, and so many other illnesses. Not two years, kids get shots for 6 years not two so let's give this study more time so we can all know the truth either way.

My doc says if I feel more comfortable, I can gve the MMR shot to my son at 18 months- however he says at 9 months he can tell if a boy has autism. We're waiting a few more months....

thank you..I know it will cause some uproar if he has to go into childcare at some point (which I am trying to avoid personally) but I am just really concerned about the MMR...I am going to bypass it for now. Thank you again!! :)

Tonysmommy, I have no advice but to follow your gut feeling. I have a 17-month old son who has had no vaccs since last summer. I REALLY didn't want to give him the MMR and said so to doctor. I am sure she thinks I'm a bit... strange. But it's fairly common for parents to say no. Your son cannot speak for himself, you are his parent, you must make this choice. Also, you CAN delay the MMR (as well as other vaccs) till your son's immune system is stronger.

HELP!! My son is scheduled for his 1 yr check up tomorrow, we have given him all of his vaccinations to date. I am REALLY not wanting to give his MMR...what do you all think? Advice on how to tell my doc? Do I just say 'no' to the MMR?? Thank you!!!

In the uk we get our MMr between 12 and 15 months and then the 2nd one at 4-5 years. We don't get to choose, the health care systems sends you out an appointmenet when tehy want you to get your vaccine and it is entirely up to you to attend at the time they set. If your child is unwell you can defer and reschedule.
